When I’m late to the ball I instinctively do the buggy whip without knowing why. This video helped me explain it. I guess I have a pro’s instinct.

People saying this is a bad idea are stupid or do not understand what the guy is saying. Its true, you must brush up. Sometimes we hit the ball but don't go up enough. Coach isn't saying to use buggy whip but he is trying to say that you must brush up or your racquet must go up. Its the truth.

What is objective truth anyway?

I use this against players that mostly hit a weaker ball forcing me to always create my own pace so that I can stay consistent. I dont aim it as well my my normal stroke but it's less risky against them and still gives them a heavy ball since they're waiting for me to make the error.

Wish I had that tip this past weekend against. No pace is my kryptonite.

...well at least NOW you know...for the future.

This is so wrong .. Spin happens on the ball sharp impact above the ball equator .. so the vector force split up and horizontal .. if you hit the ball up .. you will only get the rotation .. not the depth .. for both you need to impact the ball little above ball equator. Thats why all the top players keep the racquet little closed and impact the ball with body rotation .. hope that helps

Yes, but to counter the pace this is the way to go.

You're too scientific on your approach buddy.

hitting the ball above the equator would cause the ball to fly downwards. if you want to impart any lift on the ball, the contact would have to happen slightly below the equator of the ball.
