Without exaggerating, this video is the best tutorial i've ever seen in a while. They show you how to do it by alot of real examples.. I hate it when a move is demonstrated in a very slow and step oriented, with very few examples. Please keep it up!

Using 4:06 as an example, here are a few tips: 1)Keep on your toes as the guy does when he throws the ball up and feet apart for comfort. 2)When raising the arm, allow the hand holding your racquet to be at or above the height of your head.

I like this video because it appreciates the left handed player. Instead on me having to mirror what a right handed player is doing, I can easily follow along and learn from the left handed girl.

Nice instruction, I use eastern backhand for all my serves. This really imparts way more spin for slice,kicks and twist serves. The eastern backhand is a bit more difficult to master, pronation for flat serves are really difficult to master. I confuse my opponents with eastern backhand serves. Give it a shot and see how you do.

Dude, the fact that you are a recreational player says a lot. I play at university standard and my first serve is my main weapon. I can hit it at around 120mph max and probably get 65% of first serves in on an average match day. If I hit serves at the pace and with the basic technique that you do I would get 90+% first serves in. You cannot compare between standards!!

This serve is incredibly useful in doubles. Most of the times, I'd rather toss the ball further right (right-handed), just to gain more spin and control.

thanks a lot for the great video. So you make contact at the side of the ball, 3 o'clock. now if you rotate the imaginary clock counterclockwise (from the top of the clock). Should you hit the ball from 9 to 3 o'clock or like 10: 30 to 4 30 o'clock?

@Genius2419 Every professional tennis player has their first serve as a flat serve. If it doesn't go in then they use (most likely) a top spin serve knowing that there is a high chance of it getting in and difficult to return (if carried out successfully).

I do the same, don't try to hard keep doing a second serve, and slow down and make sure your form is right,... and continuously gain training of placing the ball, and once you achieve that, star to speed up the pace... I just started getting the ball int he court so I will start needing to speed up the process... o.0 and js, I also missed by a mile lmao

I can now hit flat slice and topspin serves as hard as possible the spin on a slice seems to make it quit hard to land the serve out so I am chuffed with that , my kick serve looks so predictable thought . You can tell when I am going to do one a mile off , the kick is really big but it,s too slow.

So the difference between a kick (topspin) serve and a slice serve is that during the kick serve the racquet makes contact with the ball from the "back" and the slice serve makes contact with the "side" of the ball? Is the overall motion with the hitting arm entirely the same? I am a bit confused about those two things to be honest.
@Stealthstar19
@Stealthstar19 10 жыл бұрын
mikehoncho83 Dont know if this can help you or not, but when i slice, i rotate the racquet around the ball when i hit it (if that makes sense). Just before i swing down to make contact with the ball, i rotate my wrist to the right (i am right handed) and it creates a slow, but very effective spin. After contact has been made, the strings shouldnt be facing you, which means you can move straight back into the ready position. When i slice, i find it most effective to be: 1. When on the right hand side, stand on or as close to the tram lines as you can while still being able to get the serve in. (You can use this rule of thumb, if you can hit in a straight line consistently, stand near the tram lines. If you cannot hit straight, stand near the center line.) 2. The other most effective place to stand is next to the center line when on the left hand side and aim as close to the service box center line as possible while using spin. This makes it extremely difficult because a center line shot is not only hard to hit, but it also is moving away from the player, meaning he has to move much faster. (If you are left handed, both these are reversed) When playing on the right hand side near the tram lines, it is possible to hit an ace without even hitting the ball hard. If you master the slice serve, you can hit the ball in the very bottom left of the court, which with spin, causes the ball to move directly to the left and either bounce back into their side of the net, or bounce into the wall/ fence way before they can get close. Either way it is a very effective shot.

I swear you're supposed to use the slice serve as a first serve variation. If you over slice, the ball will go out, it doesn't really help add control like topspin, which is frequently used on second serves..

Using Eastern Backhand for flat serve for me keeps the ball down on impact, about 6 inches off the court. The velocity is over 100 mph which really frustrates my opponents. Most good tennis players don't like serves out of the strike zone.

This is a common problem and is probably either of these 2 reasons. 1. You hit with a forehand grip. 2. When you practice, you probably just want to rally and not practice serves. This is a HUGE detriment to your game.
