@@b.b.4010 i don't even understand what you guys are arguing. The umpire ruled a correction on the 1st serve and called it in. But he didn't do that til after the 2nd serve was hit. That is ridiculous and too late for him to correct it. Then he tells Diatchenko that its too late to challenge. How can it be too late when he had just made the correction a few seconds earlier??? Its an atrocious bit of umpire work here. The ruling needs to be made before the 2nd serve, otherwise it should be too late for the umpire to rule on a previous point like that.

Yeah, she refused to admit her mistake so just said “it looked close”. It’s unfortunate for the players when you have refs that have too much pride, ego or whatever it is to admit they are wrong and to apologize. That was a huge moment of the match and could of made all the difference if she ended up losing the point.

As a tennis umpire I can tell you, that mistakes happen. Especially when you have to stay focused for 2+ hours of a match. If the ball looked close to her, she has to make a decision based on her point of view. She shouldn't have asked the baseline umpire for his/her call though. The truth is that mistakes happen and it is easy to comment when you are watching a match on TV or KZbin, but when you are sitting on a chair you have to make a decision in a split second and stress also plays a huge role it the process. Also the situation was not really straightforward. I am not trying to say that she didn't make a mistake, I'm just trying to say, that you have to have some compassion for the umpire and for the circumstances

Exactly. Regardless of whether it was out or not, Wang was the one who stopped the point first by putting her hand up to challenge and was wrong to do so, therefore the point should have been Tig's anyway. It begs the question where the umpire was even looking? She didn't see that the ball was out on Tig's side, and she didn't see Wang put her hand up...

Why should it matter if Wang put her hand up? A second later, a linesperson agreed with Wang and called out, meaning it was for Tig to challenge. So Wang putting her hand up made no difference whatsoever. Everything else that followed was useless umpiring not noticing that the next shot was clearly out, but that wasn't Wang's fault.

It's like no one says anything. Can the linesperson please not act like a dumb mute all the time. They've got the technology to check the call so if the stupid umpire "doesn't know" they can easily find out by going to hawk eye. Come on guys. You got this technology. Use it. They are still trying to rob players in 2020. The Serena/Capriati saga happened in 2004. This is getting old. Speak up. Work it out

Regular couple: "Honey I am home.". How was your day? "The usual busy. Had a guy with multiple gunshots. We resuscitated for an hour and then spend six hours in theatre trying to stitch him up. Unfortunately we lost him. We tried our best." Tennis couple: "Honey I am home". How was your day? "Oh, awful. Had two line calls against me and they would not let me change my dress. I feel like crying. I lost the match. It's the umpire's fault."

That tiebreak point with Sakari needs to be clarified. She lost the challenge yet replayed the point. I’ve seen similar with Aga Radwanska where she challenge like this and she lost the point. Umpires be using different set of rules

Don't you guys think there is a large problem of respect, of rules and of persons, probably a problem about the fact many of these players and referees speak not really english? I also reckon there could be many cases solved just by having the rules on the court... Just a small book with good titlings...

So, the umpire didn't see it, the linesman didn't care. If there is uncertainty on the umpire's part: watch the video instead of saying 'I'm not sure'. If you watch the video, you will be sure. Tennis has such stupid rules. Use everything to make the right call. What reasonable person would say 'I'm not sure, but I'm not going to check'??? It does not make any sense. Also: tennis players are very unsportsmanlike players. It's as bad as soccer players. Oh, also a sport where the ref refuses to be sure because they can't stand being wrong.

Its fucked up that Paquet has 1 minute to go and change, how is she supposed to do that? Leave the court and take off a sweaty dress while being sweaty af and put on a new one in 60 seconds or get a code violation? Makes no sense, especially since she literally isn't allowed to change on court

I dont get sometimes the player returns a ball called out and then looses the point when the opponent challenges and it turns out the ball touched the line. This makes zero sens the point should be replayed
@parkercrossland410
@parkercrossland410 4 жыл бұрын
All that needs to be said is that as soon as the ball is called out, each following stroke is out. This means that if a call comes after a shot is returned, that return is still a live ball.

In Tig's match, the call was before the hit so it doesn't matter at all if the ball went in or out.

You may have an audio sync problem, since the call was so late that Wang actually gestured to challenge _after_ she had hit her shot, just as the out call was coming (as @Arvin Reuben correctly points out below).
@jasonmcgavin9163
@jasonmcgavin9163 4 жыл бұрын
@@FrozenShade nah the call was early, shown by the way wang was hitting the ball. Tennis audio sync might not be accurate for those of us watching at home, so best not to rely on that.
@FrozenShade
@FrozenShade 4 жыл бұрын
@@jasonmcgavin9163 I only have one question: did you not see her gesture to challenge immediately after playing the ball? It's on video and hard to deny. In my mind it logically follows she had not heard any call up to that point, but perhaps you see it differently.
