Roger definitely has the greatest footwork. Others have good footwork, but his is exceptional. It isn't about speed (though he is fast), but his spacing and control of the court created by his footwork are legendary.

Mind you, all three players here can apply all three types of footwork. This video's point is that each player has their favorite type of footwork; they can apply any footwork if they need to. My personal opinion for rec. players is that we should be more like Roger, because we don't have speed like Rafa or flexibility like Novak; staying near baseline saves us energy and effort and applies pressure on opponent.

Also Stefan has best footwork coming to net and around net, cut the angel and make crisp crunch volley to win the point. Chang and Hewitt footwork are around baseline. Edberg footwork is amazing at the net.

Best footwork should go to Michael Chang and Lleyton Hewitt. In old days courts were so fast and has so much variety, still Chang and Hewitt were able to run down almost every ball opponents threw at them. Incredible speed, footwork and court coverage. If not them, no one else deserves best footwork.

Yeah I never tilova says that in her book I just read it yesterday how you don't practice volleys up at the net then you move back and you take follies way back so you kind of work yourself up and back and that's exactly what never told over said in her book when she became number one in the world she was only 18 at the time she wrote that book she was talking about the same thing

My dog place way back because if you step back you can really heat then he hits through long deep shots and that he hits a lot harder therefore he gets away with that by staying further back he hits through the ball and deep and then he dares people to try to come in on them

Yeah but you really got to analyze this serve and volley John McIntosh served in valley and they used the wooden racket back in the day see you going to see a lot more of that but today with the technology the rackets and the faster courts it's probably forcing players to stay on the baseline a lot more but that means you have to probably have an exact footwork in order to be so good to serve volley against these great baseliners today that you have to be even better than the than the guys of

Right with the semicircular loop you don't back up you move forward a curve though because if you try to do what those teaching coaches are saying move in and then cut it a diagonal that does not work when you return serve at a curve at a semicircular movement that is you'll be picking up the wide serve if somebody serves out why you can move forwards better to curve and I picked that serve up easily off the wide or if it comes in down the line to my back and I can I can curve over and pick that up easy also I'm also able to move into the court better because I'm prepared to cover almost anything in a semicircle movement pattern I'm not going to try to cut diagonally across to one side you'll easily get past the minute you start moving directly it's easy pickings to get past so that's why you see hardly nobody coming up to net nowadays because they can't they get past easily because you can't move up and then diagonally and think you're going to pass a dollar in the top 10 players in the world will pass you I seen the best certain ball in the world with the improper footwork he couldn't do anything at a satellite level and to Thomas club he was beating he was one of the best of alliers in the world he couldn't do it even qualify in a

Oh yeah the pros that see how he moves joke of it you'll be on the opposite side of the Cross Court angle and then you move the other side he'll be the opposite but when you're getting here the net you want to be on the same side as opponent then you cross over so one of the brilliant books I've got for my teaching coach those theories all pan out but the theory with the semicircle loop is even greater than anything written I've

Right you moving a circle half circle that concave circle is half circle towards the nets you have to draw that from it from from the net a half circle okay so when he moves he doesn't cut if you move it a diagonal if you move forward in somebody hits a deep shot it's all over that's just common sense right if you pack the net too tight moving at a diagonal it's you're easily passed but moving in a semi circular half concave movement you round off the curve on both sides and easily breaking service or net out doing the best in the game and the computer or in real life if you try to move into close it's called crowding the net the Masters like rod laver who won the grand slams never move closer than 9 ft otherwise you'll be passed by the lob easily that lob deep down the line is absolutely deadly to anybody tries to take the net too quickly on the second valley of course you can pack the net tight but you better make sure that it's a winner because if it's not

Well John mcenroe moves in his half circle concave movement always and he taught that in his Junior book by John McEnroe and I remembered that there was a semicircular loop and I was getting defeated in the computer game over and over and over and over again trying everything that I've ever read and every book and it did not work moving diagonally stepping in trying to close the net too tight but if you try to do that you get locked and every time you pack the net too tight or you get labor said State never move in more than 9 ft from the net don't overcrowd and then yet the never tell all this said try to hit your volleys at about 6 ft from that ideally but then again if you got to watch out for that lob anytime that you close too tight so that first volley I stay back and then the second one I close but I'm moving a semi circular pattern and that's enabled me to beat the computer at the highest level I noticed that my improvement is instant on the return of service and the improvement was instant the minute I start doing it the net also and also was able to go back easily and and to hit overhead South those lobs and in real life that also worked I was starting to practice certain things and this guy had qualified for the pro 281 and I admit I started doing the change I beat him five straight games so think the theoretical model is what you have to have and if you read the best players like never to lova she was beating Chris Evert she talks about her book written in back in 80 she talks about the Haas and the nutrition book and the types of things that Yvonne lindell was on the diet that's all these guys are using the same diet they were using the same model

Why was there the day that you played Michael Chang indoors AS stand right next to you watching it the time that she were number one for one day I mean I've watched Avon lindell a close up I've seen the best players in the world I've also hit with guys that beat Michael Jane when he was number one in the world at that time you know and I hit with guys that were number one who coached some of the best women tennis players in the world capriotti who she was number one in the world and beating everybody but the kitchen sink and made more money than almost any woman tennis player out there and I know the guy that coached her and I've hit with that guy and I've taken lessons from that guy and I've also you know have a lot of experience with people who played professional
