Just because he is ranked X, doesn't mean he doesn't have good strokes... Basilashvili has one of the best 2 handed backhands on tour and he is ranked 30-40 something. Johnson has a great second serve and a great slice, but maybe he is weak mentally, unstable forehand, not a great mover, etc... Use your brain people, its there for a reason.

No argument Sampras has the best second serve in the history of men’s tennis. And the funny thing it’s also very hard to distinguish his first and second. It’s like Sampras has 2 first served.

Nadal's 2nd serve even being discussed is a joke. Rolling it in so he can start the point on neutral ground to his superior ground game doesn't somehow make the actual serve anything special. Winning 2nd serve points isn't the same thing as having a great 2nd serve.

I think the fact that nadal is a lefty and most break point are on the ab court makes his 2nd serve solid.

Agree, however Anacon and Courier actually mention why Nadal is in there, and it's precisely because he has one of the highest win percentage of second serves in the history of the game, Federer also shouldn't have even been discussed here, he has one of the best first serves out there but his second serve isn't even top 10 in the mens game, further more there are a lot of players out there who have better stats on the second serve than Federer, mentioning him here was also pretty stupid.

Actually Federer's second serve, stats wise, is the best or second best, ever. He doesn't even have a great defense like novak and nadal to back those second serve stats. So his serve is purely great

Nadal has a wicked slice for 2nd serve, the opponent is forced out by the doubles ally and its a easy open court shot afterwards.

Saw Johnson play against UCLA. Didn't appear to be hitting first serves, just used his second serve to work his opponent. He could hit such a severe angle on the ad side, the returner really had to guess where it was going even when he wasn't serving flat bombs. One of the nastier kick serves I've seen in person. Ljubicic's kick serve was spooky, too.

Shouldn't most second serves be hit with sidespin? A kick serve that doesn't move quickly just sits up high and is easy for a tall and strong player to attack.

most second serves in pro play are not kick serves but rather slice topspin, which makes it so you can hit it above 90 mph. A true kick serve is almost impossible to hit above 90 mph, very few people can hit, as second serve, a 90+ mph true kick serve and even if they can they would never do it too often because it's incredibly physically demanding

yea i thought the same thing. the graphic was correct. the blue line jumped higher and it was hit from farther left and behind the head of the server. Jim was just confused

tennis channel, really good. would have been good to actually have a clock to show how the racquet moves on the ball. i actually think the colors were correct, because wouldnt the kick serve be the one that gets up higher on the bounce? anyways, like it guys. hope to see more of this. thanks TC

not really because it was all BS here anyway..... Murray had the better to the 2 serves in the example and that came thru when they tried to say the colors were wrong, lol.... they just can't find the vid to back up the comments because they just aren't clear on their points.

Kick serve is not faster than slice or topspin !! Murray hits a topspin second serve not a slice .. Murray is not known for a big second serve. At the Australian open his second serve average was slower than Maddison Keys.. fastest is (1) flat (2) slice (3) Topspin (4)) Kick is slowest as it’s used to take your opponent off the court .. ! Hence it’s called a kick serve as it kicks up off the court and moves the opposite direction when it hits the ground !

Murrays 2nd serve cant be that bad, probably in the top 15 Greatest players of the open era(Only this low cos the slam count is only 3, other stats he is top 10 easily) and desperately unlucky to be playing 3 tennis gods who have denied him at least 10 other opportunities to win slams. Johnson and isner have got to all of 1 semi final and that was at wimbledon this year.I master title, a fraction of murrays titles between them. Best 2nd serves for me are 1. Djokovic 2. Isner 3. Federer 4. raonic 5. Nadal

Murray is my favourite player, but it is true. His second serve is and has always been, straight garbage. Whenever he played great returners, I used to panic on his second serve haha. Murray got by them though with physical prowess, amazing ground strokes and shot variety.
