Excellent mental toughness tip . I tell my students that every shot gives you feedback . When you make an error what did the ball communicate to you ? Great video

Thanks coach. I have been playing tennis for about 4years during which I have developed my technique a lot. But I played a few tournament matches recently and I performed way below my normal tennis level. I found out I was focusing on my errors and losing confidence on my subsequent shots. But the tips shared in this video are so amazing. I will try it in my next match. Thanks for this fantastic tip

Great teaching tip. You definitely cannot judge your shots or you end up in a snowball effect. Dangerous grounds judging individual shots....

Very simple still extremely smart tip, thanks so much! Been struggling immensely with my mental (error judgement, negativity and cursing) troughout matches I know I can win if only I could play more focused and peacefully. Let's start testing this asap!

True, i need to relax when playing competitive. I want to control every shot to make is as perfect as possible and at the same time I don’t trust my instincts as much as I should. This results in me reacting to late and I miss the shot all because I take a point to seriously.

As a beginner I struggle with better players and that's 90% of who I play with hahaha anyway this perspective helps a lot. Will apply in my next training

Yes I totally agree that it must be the tip number one : to observe rather to judge. As you said, data will help to make some adjustment. However, all expectancies bring some frustration. In order to play our best tennis, we must learn to play without expectancies and to be fully involved.

Yes, I think it's correct. In observation there is no judgment, no goal to achieve, no effort to become, not trying but just observation, therefore no conflict, no fear. And from that clarity maybe a more accurate action arises. But it is the most incredibly difficult thing. But sometimes it happens. Not saying I'm free from judgment at all but I do notice that free action in the very few moments when I was so lucky to be just observing; better shots, and vibrant games.

Another positive thing to think about is the fact that even though you missed the backhand down the line in your example, the opponent still has to consider that shot as a possibility for the rest of the game. So even missed shots ask a question to the opponent in terms of strategy and game play

Thank you. Super clear and direct. But the challenge is the implementation for someone who has spent his life being critical of himself. I am trying and I like the term dispassionate as a vision point. I used that this morning alongside the mantra “analyse the data coolly”. Any other tips on implementation please? Thank you

Nice tip. We all tennis players (specially ex competitors) tend to be so hard on ourselves. We should be more compassionate and understand that we can miss some shots and obviously try to find and work in the errors.

I’m so inconsistent in my tennis matches. I would be up 5-2 then i get nervous and stop moving my feet and lose a bunch of games in a row and it would be 5-5. It really sucks. It makes me not want to play matches all together cause of the amount of times that has happened and I feel like I’m letting my team down

Great problem to have, once u push thru that 5-2 mental barrier you'll love to be in that situation...Remember pressure is on them, force them to beat you, No free points.

Correct up to the point where your trying to use the data. As soon as you start thinking you enter self 1. Don’t think what can you do differently just let your body do it for you the next time instead.

What if your coach sees you being in dispassionate data mode as dwelling on the past? That you should just forget about the past and move on without any analysis at all. And that all your shots in free hitting time hitting at least the general mid-sized target as you missing way wide at some other imaginary target.
