@@nicolofolgori4256I do not agree. For fast courts it is Sampras! As much as I am Adie hard fan of Djokovic he is not the first one There was one before Novak and thta is Pistol Pete Sampras. We do not have fast courts either in Wimbledon or US open anymore. I would love to see Novak countering the greatest serve of all time in fast courts and Federer competing with his aggressive brand of tennis against the super aggressive tennis of Sampras in all of their primes. I admire Pete’s strength for speaking about Tim. The way he toughed it out there at the end was powerful. Even though I grew up on Fed and Rafa I always watched Pete’s documentaries and matches as a kid. I was amazed at how relatable of a guy he seemed to be; humble but hungry. Sure he’s #4 on the slams list but no doubt he’d give the big 3 trouble regardless of the surface in todays game. You’re a legend Pete, thank you 💯

Ironic that Pete retrained young to get a one-handed backhand, due to advice. That probably cost him more slams and maybe the French Open, but on the other hand, it made him the first incredibly elegant tennis player, where everything looked like it was poetry in motion.Roger Federer, carried this even further, and I say the same with him, that it probably cost him more grand slams as a two-handed backhand is superior, on balance, it gives you far more control, which is on balance, better than the reach advantage you get with one hand. The only exception to this is Stan, who is probably the strongest tennis player to ever live, in terms of upper body, and can hit a harder and well controlled, one-handed backhand, more than any two-handed in history

Sampras was a class act, through and through,on and off the court. He carried himself with almost unmatched grace and competitive spirit & set up a bar for players like Federer,Nadal and Djokovic. They actually saw those 14 slams as the guide and eventually ended up competing against one another. Sampras's serve stays at the top as the most beautiful stroke in the history of the game. What a great memory watching him lift 2000 Wimbledon in front of his parents.

I think McEnroe's speech was the best. Very long, but people didn't mind. I couldn't quite understand the almost 90% strongly emotional content of Pete's speech. I would expect that as he mentioned his late coach, but it seemed every single thing he mentioned broke him emotinally. It's pretty odd.

No, it wasn't awkward at all. It was touching to see so much feeling coming from someone who was usually described as emotionless. Several years after Tim Gullikson's death, it still breaks him up. And what a great tribute to Paul Annacone. To me, Pete's tears show how deep his emotions run. No, he didn't let it all hang out on court, as some players do, he's a private person, but I love his sincerity and genuineness.
