I’d say that Harry’s poor technique is the problem, not the racquet!

I remember demoing the 18x20 version back in 2013 and instantly falling in love with it. It was my racket of choice for at least 6 years, and still enjoy playing with it every now and then! I understand why people might not like the feel but in my experience the overall level of control and precision combined with how solidly the ball comes off the strings by far outweighs this minor “lack of feel”. This was also Thiem’s racket of choice for a long time :)

They are certainly not the worst rackets ever made. I even believe they are among the best looking rackets ever made, but it is true though, they lack the correct response as the frame feels dead and really can hurt your arm because you will feel the need to hit harder to get power out of it. I used the 18x20 for a short period because they looked supercool, but switched back to the Head Prestige, same kind of power level to zero, but better response. I think that it is the problem of the whole Strike line, they feel dead and unresponsive, be it the 16x19, 18x20, 100 or Tour. And the VS is somewhat different but still dead.

I remember clearly when they came out, my friend gifted me one as he was working for USTA and one sponsored player gave him one new to trash !! 😂 Grip was too big so I sold it but honestly didn’t feel much difference between v1 and v2 I was never a fan of Strikes, but what sold the V2 is pure marketing!! First they did what Wilson did with Clash, lot of hype, early prototype releases and ever had it as Project 1-7!!! And of course white cosmetic at the time only all white racquet. Soon after Tennis Magazine deemed it best racquet of the year and sales went crazy !!! But honestly all version of Strikes play very close so it’s all marketing baby !!!!

Played with these in my first 3 years of college. Honestly enjoyed them a lot, they’re great for slicing and drop shots, but having since moved into heavier and smaller head territory it’s tough for me to go back to them

Crikey I hope no one actually takes this video seriously! It's pretty much saying that because it was strung with the wrong string and tension for the type of racket and that a player with poor technique and low ability didn't like it, it's a terrible racket! This racket is brilliant, if you have good racket head speed and technique and put the right strings in it. I used the 98 16x19 for about two years until I broke both of mine and the line had been discontinued. I was gutted. One of the best rackets I ever used. I am a decent level player though and I swing fast and prefer low powered control rackets. This was the first Babolat that I felt was in that category.

I believe D Thiem picked up the 18x20 version from a Retail store and then switched to it for a number of years. I have the 100. It's a nice frame.

This was my racket is choice when I was in College. With a little bit lead at 3-9 it works great. I got why Harry hates it because it almost have no stability if you don’t have enough racket head speed, which, no offense to Harry, he doesn’t have enough…Dominic Thiem loves first gen Pure Strike for a reason because it’s build for that kind of player like him. I’m not saying I’m that good…I switched to Vcore 98 after my college since I was getting fatter and slower, but damn first gen pure strike was awesome when I can swing it

Still like mine, the 98 16x19 Gen 1. The Gen 2 has a smidge more power and less control. In singles, the Aero ramps up the power considerably, but was harder on my arm. Great defender racket for singles and doubles, but a bit short on power for singles. Prefer 98’s for doubles still, better reactions for quick volleys.

Harry is NO reference for rackets and strings: horrible strokes, no clue of mechanics and lack of understanding of technology or Carbon composites on structures and string composition. But only a step below Tennisnerd himself...

I do remember briefly using a gen 1 Pure Strike 98 18x20. What I liked was it was comfortable and quite control oriented for a Babolat. However, it lacked some oomph in my shots.

Hey Hary - just saw your review of the second worst tennis racket of all time and just wondering if you ever hit with the T-2000? Perhaps that generation of racket would be for a different discussion. Thanks and I really enjoy your videos. Take care, Dennis Dempsey (Colorado)

As a racquet stringer with nearly 50 years experience the T2000 was challenging and time consuming to string properly... especially with natural gut as protective tubing was required at every point the string went around the wire inner suspension to prevent premature breakage and the stringing machine had to very carefully placed on each pull to ensure proper tension ing. I added a significant labor surcharge when stringing them. Some customers would come from over 25 miles to have them done because many shops wouldn't string them... especially with natural gut that was expensive and very delicate. Imagine paying $50+ for a string job in 1980!

this was my first full size racquet I used, and i remember getting it buy one get one free probably because it was so bad. First hit i couldn't get it over the net it was so unpowerful. But it made me hit with control in juniors and lead me to the project one7 which was an amazing racquet while being too stiff. I didn't like the current 3rd gen though it was too clunky and muted

The Tour version was my racket of choice for many years. It took me about a month to completely gel with the racket, but it was the racket that produced the heaviest balls. It actually is a great racket.

Agreed, these were horrible lmao. I've got the 16x19 model and the string bed is erratic and the feeling on impact is mushy and dead. There's no real sense of feedback and the racquet doesn't invoke any real sense of confidence in your strokes.

I had the 16x19 1 gen. Never was happy with my forehand but I had a short backswing then that's probably why Harry also doesn't like it at all. Gauging how much power was needed from yourself was the tricky part too I remember many balls trailing too long or falling short. Slicing and dropshots were sublime.

Pure control “Swirly”/“Team” 16x20 play really nicely, same with PCGT 95+ 18x20. I’d take them over any other babolat by far! The strike is TRASH imo, Only good one is the “project one 7 VS” that has the same mold as the OGs

Two other recommendations for worst racquets - one from yesteryear, one from today: Ivan Lendl’s adidas racquet - totally unplayable except for him, being a physical freak of nature, and the previous Wilson ultra (newer one is much better)

the pure control and pure storm lines are equally unappealing. no amount of tinkering with strings and tension make these old racquets really playable.
