We are going to string Coach Gu's tennis rackets 2 ways. The first is a One-Piece String job with 2 knots and the second is a Two-Piece with 4 knots. Will he be able to tell the difference?

That’s why I like stringing my pro staff 97s with a universal around the world pattern. The mains all get tensioned, and the top and second from bottom crosses have knots.

In badminton, a 2-piece string job is preferred because the U-shaped string loss due to tie-offs maintains the head shape better. A 1-piece causes a L-shaped string loss which can deform the head shape. For tennis, I think most stringers will use 1-piece because it saves string. You can get at least an additional string job from a reel.

I string tennis rackets only, but I noticed the same, 1-piece causes a deformation of the head shape, specially when the crosses start from the throat of the racket. That´s why I always use 2-piece, starting crosses always from the top of the head.

I bought my Regna at the Windsor Racket Shop, the same one you did and mine came as a 2-piece job and I didn't ask them for that, just said the tension I wanted and full bed of PTP.

I had raised this question to you year 2021, but maybe I didn’t explain to you clearly about the knots, that’s why I didn’t get the reply from you. But thanks that you explained what’s the difference. I’m curious before & didn’t like the effect with one string job. I changed my racket to clash 100Land have it string hybrid. I followed your instructions I used Wilson gut 17G & luxillon 4G 1.25 16LG, I’m happy with the hybrid string. Thanks that you have clarified the differences.

My stringer advices 1 piece, 2knots (using the ATW method so that ends on the trhouth stressing less the frame) for a more consistent string tension, and acording to the specialists gives you a larger sweetspot. I feel like the tension is higher whith 1 piece. I really trust him because he is always in workshops to keep it update. And also gives me at least 1 more string job because i use string reels. I only go 2 pieces (4 knots) if it´s a hybrid.

Can you make a video showing the difference between stringing a 16x20 racket after skipping the bottom cross to make it a 16x19 instead? Do you get more spin/power but lose some control? I saw Alcaraz skipping bottom cross on his PAVS before, though he usually plays fully strung at 16x20, and was wondering what the major differences might be

Question for you. My belief is you are spot on about where the tension is lost according to how the racket is strung. However, what my question is..... is doesn't the string tension eventually balance out to all strings once the racket is used?
@miguelbarahona6636
@miguelbarahona6636 Жыл бұрын
That´s a good question, I think string tension tends to balance, after every stroke. Depending where the ball hits the stringbed, the strings near that point will tend to balance, but if on the next shot, the point where the ball hits is different, the balance will change again, and so on.

Regarding Japan, I think it just happened by chance, the shop I use always strings 2 pieces. They claim to be Yonex certified, so probably this is how Yonex requires them to do. Only once, when I asked my coach to string my racquet, he asked if I want 1 or 2 pieces, and I said I'm not that good to care
@cyberjonesy

I understand the principle of "balancing out" the tension loss with the 2 piece method. But what Im wondering is, how do you know that both knots will lose the same amount of tension? If they don't then it kind of moots the point, no?

2-piece. Tensions on the last mains are a bit more even than 1-piece. And, 2-piece jobs with polyester strings are easier to do than 1-piece.

I can't remember which brands Harry but one segment you mentioned the manufacturer will void the racket's warranty if string job isn't 2 piece 🤔 Interesting to know which holds tension longer (suspect 2 piece) but I agree with Gu I use a 2 piece Hybrid string job for doubles. I seem to get better pocketing and control with two piece if that makes sense...

@biondipepe
@biondipepe Жыл бұрын
I prefer two piece stringing because is more evenly distributed the potential unbalances,. On another note, Yonex isometric shaped racquets recommends different tension mains than crosses. I guess that leads to two pieces being more practical to do. One piece in Japan is because is more profitable, less knots less time/labor :)
@zacwarn917
@zacwarn917 Жыл бұрын
I didn't know this. I have a Yonex Vcore pro 97 that I string at 49 pounds in two separate pieces. What should the difference be between the crosses and the mains? Do you think I should string my mains at 48 and crosses at 50? Also, that's what I was thinking about the knots-"less knots, less time/labor."

Hi. This is Mohammed from Panther Sports in Manchester UK. Do you think that you will get similar results if the number 1 racket was done ATW method.
@AMstringing

Aloha Mohammed, I thought I would chime in since I conducted an experiment on this recently. I strung a racquet twice with synthetic gut at 50 pounds. First, with ATW, then second with 2-piece. Both had a string bed deflection (RDC) of 52 and string tension (ERT700) of 48. I even measured the individual cross strings using a Stringmeter since I was concerned that the tensions may vary due to the alternating "easy-weaves" and "hard-weaves." The readings revealed that with both stringing methods, that they were comparable!

@@AMstringing Thanks for sharing your results. I strung 2 identical rackets for a gentleman with a 2 piece and the other one with 1 piece ATW method. This particular gentleman preferred the racket that was strung 1 piece ATW method. I used Head Velocity MLT at 54lbs on both rackets.

If a racket calls for one-piece stringing (like an older Prince, for example), can you just do it as a two-piece anyway? It seems to me that you could, but does anyone have any experience doing this?
@mrgolftennisviolin
@mrgolftennisviolin Жыл бұрын
You might have to deal with widening a grommet or two for tie off locations. It’s likely possible but I don’t choose to widen a customer’s grommets if I can just string it one piece as the pattern says.

The only reason why I do 2 piece is b/c it is easier to measure a separate string for the mains and separate string for the cross. With one piece you need to make sure one half of the mains is correctly measured or you will be screwed if you didn't measure length correctly.
@tp3293
@tp3293 Жыл бұрын
String management is way easier with two piece as well. You also don't need to pull as much string through each time. Don't need to do fancy around the world patterns if the mains end at the throat. The only downside I can see is tying two more knots but for me that's pretty minor compared to the downside of one piece.

By common sense 2 piece strings will be better because it will loose less tension over time, since there's 2 shorter strings instead of one 12 meter string all over the racket.

I don’t think that’s how it works, I’ve never heard anyone mention tension loss difference over time between the two methods. That would be the best reason to use one method over the other, so I’d be surprised if that were true.
