As another native English speaker, I like the lyrics to The Soul of My Soul a lot. Sometimes Eurovision lyrics are so straightforward and linear, it's intriguing to have cut-up words and phrases where the listener creates the meaning.

haha, 25:37 - Južina (juszina) is a state of mind caused by a weather condition that comes with the south wind and announces rain. Low atmospheric pressure that makes you lazy, sleepy, mushy brained and it's (somehow) trade marked in Dalmatia. :D - Luka is from Split. But to explain why the sardines are in the video, it would take to much time and space. :D

Great video as always Tom ❤ I just wanted to let you know that " Južina " is a croatian word that describes a "state” when the southern wind is blowing and bringing rain. Its mainly used in the coastal region of Croatia because of the southern wind. A lot of people get a bad headache when there is Južina and that's basicly what the song is about. Everything is just too much and too overstimulating making you kinda go crazy. The video shows how Luka is getting overstimulated with all the crazy images. Theres one line in the song where he says " its not the fault of Doris or the weak weed but Južinas" With Doris he means Doris Dragovic (1999) and the whole song is kinda based/inspired by Doris song "Srdele " as well. Luka is as Doris from Split, a coastal town, where Južina is often found. As you see the whole song is a masterpiece itself with hidden stories and even connections to a previous croatian Eurovision representative Oh and Luka was at Dora three times before (2004,07,19) and came 3rd in 2019 with Brutalero. He already had an really funny and entertaining performance back then, so you can expect A LOT from him and his performance. He is a literal show beast

I'm personally betting on Ogenj daj daj since it stands out as being catchiest song regardless the repetative refrain. Guys from the band have noted that they are heavily preparing for the live show since it makes sense for me to cover repetative part with great staging. Same for others - things will be clear after hearing their vocals live and how will they manage the staging which is nowdays crucial at ESC! Cheers from Croatia!

About your comments on Lelek - soul of my soul: 1. About the grammar errors - in poetry grammar rules don't apply. Pretty much every song in English - even from native speakers is riddled with grammatical errors. Ffs, even in Shakespeare you have: "The most unkindest cut” and "twas not a crown neither", and stuff like that. You learn in 2nd grade that in poetry grammar usually flies through the window, so I don't get this criticism. 2. As for AI comments. I don't think AI could come up with these lyrics, since they are referring to real-life events from November 2023. The latest ChatGPT model is 4o, which uses the database updated on October 2023. 3. In my honest opinion, the lyrics are brilliant. It's not just concepts thrown together without any connection - as you suggested. In fact, I'm honestly flabbergasted how you reached this conclusion? I mean, sure, you need to have some grasp of metaphors and basic symbols from world culture, but... that just tells me you haven't really given it some thought. Let's examine the words together (ignoring the grammar freedom, which is quite common in art): - It feels like a dream, but I'm wide awake (the theme here are events, which happened, but seem unreal) - loud and empty, voices fade away (probably referring to the events above, which created voices that now fade away) - sails in dark will see another day (sails in dark is most likely a reference to black sails, which usually represent ghosts and death) - anchor chained to the sound of betrayal (the events that happened are painted with betrayal) - there is rain, but there's no clouds / drops of lead are a familiar sound (lead is usually a synonym for bullets and bombs - so, it's safe to assume that's what's raining) - is this heard, do i see a crowd / world is quiet while my pain is loud (do people around the world see what is happening? Despite the pain and suffering, everyone seems to be looking away) - scarred to the bone, the game is on, you take it all, you take the soul of my soul (the suffering is so great that it feels like you are scarred to the bone. There seems to be a game, which takes everything - including the soul of my soul. The expression: "They took the soul of my soul" is most likely a reference to the story Reem's grandfather who used those exact words in November last year to describe the loss of his granddaughter during the bombings in Gaza). - You sold me to heaven / everybody knows / let them know (being sold to heaven is usually a reference to being betrayed and killed - which the world knows - and if someone doesn't know, they should know.) -- I can go on, but I think you get the picture. With that being said, I fail to see how anyone can say these are just cool words thrown together without any connection. The connection is there and is quite clear. You just need to look for the meaning behind the symbolism and metaphors.

On the topic of Lelek: I think we can all agree that it would have been better if it was in Croatian, at least the verses. With that being said, for me all that this does is take the song down from a 100 to a 99. So yes, it's a bit annoying, but all in all it is barely a big deal, at least for me. The fact that the first exposure most people are making with this song right now is a lyric video is also not helping, since that literally draws attention to this. When it comes to the life performances, most people will barely notice anything about the lyrics I think. All in all Lelek is definetly my favorite. I think Poison Cake is also a good choice, but in the end it would probably just follow the same route that No Rules did after Cha Cha Cha. It will qualify, finish mid table in the final and be remembered as the "worse Rim Tim Tagi Dim". Not saying that The Soul of my Soul will finish higher than Posion Cake neccessarily, just that it does not try to directly step into the footsteps of a giant that it just cannot possibly live up to. Croatia has a really good and competitive national final this year

A little explanation about some songs Lelek- Tom, I couldn't agree with you more. This song MUST be in Croatian.😭😭. It's really too bad, cause girls have a lot of potential. And yes, I knew right away that native English speakers will notice the amount of grammatical errors. As a Croat I can completely understand why girls are struggling with using A or THE (also my problem when I speak English), it's because Croatian (also I think other Slavic languages as well) don't have articles like this, but yes, song should definitely be in Croatian, no doubt. Regardless, I'm quite sure that they will end high in Dora, but won't be contenders to win. About Luka Nižetić and his song. Južina is a weather condition right before the rain. When you have this, atmospheric pressure is low and a warm wind blows from the sea towards the land bringing the bad weather. And people mostly feel tired, dizzy, cranky, have headaches and so on. Luka is from Split which is on the Adriatic coast and people from there can connect with the song and that "state" the most.🤣🤣🤣 Ogenj- important thing to point out is that their song is not in the standard Croatian language. It is in the Kajkavian dialect spoken mostly in northern Croatia, including the area around Zagreb (name of the band means "fire" in this dialect). Simply said, this dialect sounds like a mix between Croatian and Slovene, so they are different from all the other because of this. And I'm maybe biased cause this is also my native dialect, but they are my number one and they are also leading in our "home poll" right now. And about Aurora borealis, we don't have it here because of the latitude. Interestingly, one night last year in May, sky had reddish and purple tones and media wrote about polar light in Croatia, but of course it's not real polar light like in Scandinavia. Cheers ❤️🇭🇷

32:06 ... There's a reason why these "kids" are AI generated. The story behind the song is about the threat of modern technology and how humanity always creates the things that destroy us ("Is that how it's always been, the enemy lurks within") and that we are our own betrayers ("we were touched by Judas' kiss") ... selling our souls, our humanness and future generations for gain and "prosperity" (sin hidden under our skin). A great reaction as always. I appreciate that you were actually critical to Monopol and Daj Daj. Of course, it's not wrong to have different opinions, but i feel like my take on Eesti Laul this year is completely different from the take of the community. From what i've seen, the community generally says that this year's Dora is one of the worst NFs this year and that Monopol and especially Daj Daj are somehow the standouts, which to me is delusional. Dora is one of the best NFs this year. Of course, it's not the best if you're only looking for winner vibes/your standard YASSSS Wiwibloggs-approves-type of entries, but most of the songs actually feel like they are written from passion by the artists themselves and not just bought from Sweden. More NFs should be like this, compared to something like LSC or MESC (Although MESC is actually good this year) Daj Daj is good in the first third, but then they just keep repeating the same lyric for 2 minutes, which for me personally is a major turnoff in songs. Monopol too, it's just a default balkan pop song. How is it in the top 3 of both the escworld poll and the esc discord global, i really don't get. Poison cake is my winner (Yes, i know, the most Sweden-bought song out of them all but still), but i can see why people would dislike it. However, this is the same guy who sang Moli za nas in 2022, so i'm hopeful for good vocals. It's very similar to Mileo's song in last year's MGP, and Mileo crashed and burned due to poor staging and media controversy. If he manages to avoid both of these issues, i think that he has a shot and a very good shot at Q'ing at ESC also.

im surprised that people are saying this is a bad NF, this is the best Dora ive covered by far. Last year had a great winner, but not great depth. What a week... We got 60 (!) songs from Malta, Croatia and Greece in the span of 3 days. I assume Greece is next after Malta? 12 songs are gonna be quicker for sure. 7:05 Well, Bye, bye, bye is just iconic. It would be a way too big coincidence if this is a different Ananda. 13:30 They are indeed, but they expect the vocals to be a trainwreck since he's not a singer. 14:50 Wait, true actually 😳 17:55 Yeah, it is a fan favourite... I don't think non-native English speakers will pay attention to the lyrics since their style of singing makes it quite "unintelligible". Also, would anyone have noticed if the lyrics weren't displayed on screen? 19:20 Game is on is the new Thing is known 20:28 I can't help it, I always sing "Soul of my soul, blood of my blood" 21:00 A French song in Dora was not on my bingo card for sure. 27:00 This reminds me of Europapa, especially at 27:40 "Ja sam NPC" I think means I'm an NPC. 31:40 The singer is Lorena Bucan, fan favourite in 2019 with Tower of Babylon. I can hear a bit of it in this song. 32:38 Because some A's are louder, obviously. 35:25 I'm not really hearing Mileo tbh... 35:40 The song is supposed to mix 6 genres, so... 36:35 She has competed before, at least... 37:00 I've seen the comparison to Cry for you 😄 46:15 I noticed "kjut" in the lyrics. So, cute? 😄 51:28 They DO have words with several non-vowels in a row. After Montenegro, the second NF this year to have a song called Kraj. 56:05 This was also submitted to Lithuania and resulted in a disqualification there.

Oooohhhh, ok I've got it now... He's quoting from Maruv's Siren Song..."Wanna know my secret?" And then "Bang" as he hits play. Do I win?

Only Ogenj (Daj, daj) and Matt Shaft (Welcome to the circus)! Everything else is heavy bullshit...

@ESCTom Good luck it's actually really strong for Maltas standards this year But some of the songs are obviously going to be pretty tough to get through

Monopol by Ivxn is the song Croatia should choose imo. I like Južina, Lies Lay Cold and Daj Daj but I feel like Monopol would be the best choice. It has the Eurovisionness Južina lacks, the ethnic beat and the language Lies Lay Cold lacks and the catchy upbeat chorus Daj Daj doesn't offer. Of course Monopol is not a musical masterpiece but it's the perfect song after Mama ŠČ and Rim Tim Tagi Dim. A catchy pop song.

Out of all of these, the only one I can see to fairly well in Eurovision is AaAaA althought I think the second part of the song is a bit bland and wish it had more singing flexibility. I can also see Ogenj do well because it does remind a bit of Baby Lasagna, but it feels a bit too repetitive.

Lol, in Swedish "ful kul" means "ugly fun". But they pronounce it like "full kull" which means "drunken tag*". 😂 *The children's game.

The amount of AI videos from Dora is very disappointing. Thank god the songs that stand out aren't using it. My top five are Juzina, NPC, Poison Cake, Welcome to the Circus, and Daj daj.
@flashpoint9013 күн бұрын
@@Rocelin13 those with AI videos are not actual video of the song and it was made just to introduce the song to public. Videos of those songs will come later on

Magazin’s song sounds like it would be one of the favorites to win in 2001. Now it just seems outdated

Luka's videos (and looks) are usually much better than the song itself, in my experience. Without elaborate "quirky" staging it gets reduced to a rather underwhelming song. That's not to say the same isn't true of others, but he's much more about image then substance.

what's so bad about filomena's song being gospely? not every song in eurovision needs to be aggressive or hard rock. the little girl is supposed to be her as a child and the guy who picks her up is somewhat as a father figure, not her boyfriend

I feel like I would appreciate Salut much more if France would send it. It's a good song but it does feel odd coming from Croatia.

Regarding the French song, the lyrics are not particularly cringe but a bit nonsensical. Plus, her pronunciation is not bad but you can tell she's probably not a fluent speaker so it doesn't sound very genuine to me. I'm curious to see the live performances of all those entries! (Side note: well done with the new format of the reaction videos followed by the analysis videos. Another year of great coverage Tom. :))

I was so disappointed to see that Lelek decided to do the song in English... defeats the whole purpose of being a group using traditional sound and concept

yep totally agree. at least do the verses in Croatian and then some chorus in English?
