The level in IW was the best he has played since 2006. It looked like nobody could hang with him. What a great year for him!

Australian Open and Sunshine Double at 35-what a player! Even after seven years, we still haven’t seen anyone else with this unique blend of power and skill. Unfortunately, the game has shifted towards baseline players who can endure every rally. That’s why we don’t see the easy wins Federer often achieved with his versatile skill set. It’s hard to fully grasp this if you don’t play or truly understand the game.

If he had shown the same kind of mental strength at IW 18, IW 19 and Wim 19 like he showed vs Berdych at Miami 17, things could have been so different

Yes, mental strength/confidence is a fickle thing and I'm not sure it decided the outcome in those matches. It might have made the losses possible, but if a player gets to match points, all explanations for them being bound to lose are mistaken, because a bound-to-lose player never gets that close to winning. Wimbledon 2019 was a few inches from being Federer's. That first serve at 40-15 hit the tape and would very likely have been an ace.

@@Molybdaenmornell That first serve was luck, but many of those unforced errors in the tie breaks were due to mental strength

But there's a difference between Djokovic and Berdych.A Wimbledon final is a whole different scenario too.

Got to see him live at Indian Wells Championship 2017. He looked much thinner in person. What astounded me the most was the sixth sense anticipation of both players. At least got a checkoff on the bucket list. Greatest All Time. Switch to a lager racket earlier in career and he finishes with 26 to 27 slam titles.
