This is why I love the Laver Cup. Tennis is the loneliest sport in the world and this is a chance for rivals to play as a team (greater than double). You get to see their compassion for each other, because they all understand deep down what it means to win or lose a game. This is why I love this sport

No doubt fed is the best but many of these matches show what an amazing player Kygrios is. Wish he had the mentality of any of the big 3 to elevate himself to a legend, certainly the most talented player to have come on tour in a decade but might just go underutilised because of his personality.

What makes it even better is the perfect execution of such a difficult shot in a high pressure situation. Kyrgios was at game point and if he won it there, game moves to a tiebreak (I know it did go into tiebreak eventually but it doesn't take anything away from that shot). I'm pretty sure Kyrgios wasn't expecting Roger to make an aggressive play which involves such high difficulty when he's a set down.

I want to say that this Laver Cup was the best idea in ages for tennis. Whoever was the idea he is a god. First of all, we can see a great amount of good quality matches in a very nice format which gives a lot of emotion and tension. Also to watch the best in the tour in doubles is great. Furthermore the players give everything for this cup something suprising for me when I first heard about the cup and being an exhibition tournament. If the players keep coming with motivation and specially all the top guys come, this will definitely beat Davis Cup atmosphere and competition. I also loved how different rivalries come into one friendship to beat the other continet/s. It is insanely good how well all the players get with each other and I would pay to listen to all the conversations between players during the cup. Finally, the organizers did extremely well in putting all this up. Cameras everywhere, also microphones to listen to some advices of the players and coaches, the interviews mid matches. Shootout to World team for giving this cup the funny part and they definitely enjoyed the time there. The emotions and feelings were so high. Just watch Kyrgios at the end of the match and how much this means. Tennis is about dignity and beating the opponent and dont about money and ATP points. Please keep this cup for a lot of years to come. Last but not least, thank you Rod Laver for being there forever and the representation of this great tournament.

How often do you see Kyrgios cry after a loss? Hes back and has the passion to play again. Nr 1 potential
@finalmasquerade87236 жыл бұрын
He's only that pumped against Fed. I'm not being mean, I think he is talented. But I think he's too egoistic. His sole aim seems to be to beat the top guys. U might even beat a 36 year old Fed or a past their prime Rafa or Nole, still doesn't make u much of a tennis player at the end right? U need to play 7 matches perfectly & consecutively to prove yourself!

Tbh I was worried about this event. Team World mainly had American players and they also didn't have a single top 10 member, so I was kinda cynical about it. But after watching the entire event, I can positively say that the first Laver Cup was pretty damn good, but I believe that next year's will be better with the other top guys returning (Djoko, Murray, Wawrinka, Nishikori, etc.)

This was one of the most intense matches of the year. So much for this thing being an exo. Rafa's leap on Roger embodies the passion, artistry, and tension that this tournament had. This tournament has the makings of being a regular event no doubt. High quality stuff.
@miguelflores69186 жыл бұрын
I don’t care what people say: this Laver Cup was absolutely brilliant from start to finish. To the naysayers who spent all their time whining about lack of competition because team Europe was so much stronger than Team World I say that you were completely off the mark. This tournament was more competitive than the last Roland Garros, Wimbledon and US Open put together where Rafa and Roger just breezed through the field and we had lots of dull matches. This tournament had 12 matches: only two of those (Federer and Zverev’s easy wins over Querrey) could be called non-competitive. All of the others were massively competitive and entertaining, even the kids Tiafoe and Shapovalov made Cilic and Zverev work hard. And so much for Team Europe’s big advantage: the tie came down to the very last match and Federer even had to save a match-point. I already see some comments here that they made it competitive on purpose on the last day: of course, do you actually believe that Nadal would be so unprofessional as to throw away a match just to allow Federer to play the last one? That’s totally disrespectful to Nadal, first of all, and to Isner who played one of the matches of his life. Damn, he was unplayable today. He fired 23 aces and 11 forehand winners in two sets, how do you break a guy who fires 23 aces in two sets? Yes, Rafa was a little off (probably tired it was his fourth match in three days) but he didn’t play a really bad match, Isner was just too good. And it is not a big surprise that Nadal lost, he is not exactly a fan of low-bouncing-indoor-hardcourts. As for Federer and Kyrgios… it was perfect, the best possible ending to a great week of tennis. Nick is great, I don’t care if he is an ahole sometimes, the guy is pure gold when he is motivated. He really puts on a show for you. Has ever been a rivalry with just three matches as good as Federer and Kyrgios? It reminds me of the famous Ali-Frazier rivalry in boxing (with Fed being Ali, of course ahah). Another nail-bitting affair, with Federer coming from a set down and from 5-8 down in the super-tiebreak, having to save a match point in the process at 8-9. Just brilliant. And do you still think this was just an exhibition? Did you see Rafa going ape on the sideline trying to get Roger over the finish line? Mirka and Nick’s dad shouting in the stands on the last points? The wide smile of Ice-Borg when Fed finally did it? Kyrgios crying at the end? And all of this while 20 thousand people were on the edge of their seats? Sorry, folks, it doesn’t matter that this tournament does not give you ranking points. It matters if the players care, and boy, did they care. Tennis sometimes lacks in comparison with others sports like soccer or basketball, it lacks the team spirit. The brotherhood among both teams was amazing to watch. So get lost, naysayers. Tennis fans want more of this, they deserve more of this. LAVER CUP 4 EVER!

Kinda have to feel bad for Kygrios, on 4 separate occasions he has been 2 points away from beating rog, and this one was definately one he really wanted but just can't get it done - also I am shocked that team word was so damn close to winning, if this 50/50 match went to Nick there would have been a final tiebreak match that could've gone either way, but in saying that I'm happy it ended like this and it was a great first installment of the laver cup! Critics at large 007: did you see any of these matches? Sock's been outstanding throughout this weekend, and even was the best man on court against Nadal and Federer in doubles, so please don't downplay Rafa's win in singles. On top of that, Isner played arguably the best match of his life (Mcenroe confirmed this after the match). Furthermore: the format of these matches doesn't really suit Nadal. It's best of 3 with super tiebreak, so basically just a sprint to the end... That's not really Rafa's cup of tea. If these matches would have been played to the normal best of 3, I think Europe would have won pretty comfortably... However, we should be happy with this format, because it gave us matches with good quality and real suspension... This Laver cup is the best thing that happened to tennis in many years. Sometimes, it even reminded me of the great atmosphere we see during Golf's Ryder cup.

Yeah if he could play like this in every match he would be next level, but he usually wastes so many points by showing off.

Great drama! I love the tournament format and overall concept. Anyway anytime Roger and Nick square off it's a treat to watch.

Bjorn known to be a composed silent man jumping around was one surprise Nadal jumping on Roger was the best of the evening. The whole tournament was hands down crazy exciting. Nadal was egging the crowd during the match when RF was fighting on court amazing scenes man. It was past midnight for me in India and I was fist pumping and jumping in my room 😂😆

I absolutely love this competition! It brings together the best of rivalries and friendship as shown by the way these fierce competitors who gave their 150% on the court. Fittingly, Roger proved to be the hero when he scored the winning point to clinched it for Europe.

two points : - Nick lacks motivation in the tour , when he plays big opponents he gives his best and he go very focused , he is great to watch btw - Roger is not the same as in Wimbledon : he is not the one to dictate the rally , not agressive enough but consistent

majd Ezzarouali I think it's because these courts are much slower than the Aus Open courts, and especially slower than Wimbledon. We all know Roger likes the fast courts which let him dictate points early.
@solomonvisigoth33566 жыл бұрын
Jason looks like its slow, just look how often he slices to slow down the rally. I expected the court to be fast since its indoor
@andreten47806 жыл бұрын
well its been the real fast surfaces that roger has had problems this year. dubai and usopen. wimbledon surface wasnt fast. its actually slower than the hardcourts. u may get more juice on the serve at wimbledon, but its slow past the service box

Arthur Ashe court was INCREDIBLY slow this year at the USO - Australia and Indian Wells were fast! Federer thrived!
@andreten47806 жыл бұрын
Miles Nicholas really? I wonder how u come to that conclusion? I bet federers results influenced ur answer. The Australian Open was faster compared to other years in recent times at that venue, but it wasn't faster than the USopen. A matter of a fact, the Usopen as far as I am concerned is the 2nd fastest in terms of all the surfaces played on ( grandslams, masters 1000) so far this year. Only Cincinnati has been faster so far. The balls may fly incredibly fast in the air at Indian wells, but the court there is the most grittiest hardcourt, even Miami surface is faster than Indian wells. Overall conditions make Indian wells just a little faster overall compared to miami because Miami is humid and Indian wells is desert conditions

Roger showed more emotion in this match than in the entire Wimbledon put together!!!!! Soo much more nerve-wracking than that dull final against an injured Cilic. I am happy that all of these players took the Laver Cup so seriously! A part of me had hoped these would be amiable friendlies, all smiles everywhere, a relaxing tournament near the seaon end. But all of them played like this was a GS! Such emotion and joy! I think this was the brainchild of Roger and Rod Laver, which may explain his high emotions.

Kyrgios will mature and he will show everyone, what he's capable of. He is no Fognini by any means. This is a good guy with a good heart although he's not showing it all the time. His time will come, be sure about this folks.

Wonderful wonderful tennis. Absolutely thrilling games. Really great to see the team spirit on both sides. Loved the innovative camera angles. This is such a win for tennis creating enthusiasm and awareness beyond expectations. Hope APT and ITF see this too. Cannot wait for Chicago.
