In the past this type of opponent would have been Stans preferred. They gave him rhythm. That's probably the reason he beat Rublev. But now they are to fast and have more endurance. And Paul could be the fastest player on tour at the moment.

Roger, Gasquet and Dimitrov's were/are prettier. But nobody (with the possible exception of Thiem at the top of his game) had the sheer violence and power in a one-hander that Stanimal provides.

Wawrinka's career is in its sunset--nearing the eventual fadeout but still full of beauty. The Wawrinka backhand is one of its kind ever--heavy and elegant at the same time. Happy for Dimitrov reaching the final! At least we have one of the old guards remaining.

Love watching veteran guys like Stan, Dimi, Kei having another peak in their carrier. This seems common for many players. Federer had returned to his top form in his mid-30s, too. Hope some players still prove that single-handed backhand can still survive and cope with modern tennis intensity.

Some one-handers improvise in defence and hit a two-handed backhand (Thiem and Federer were sometimes doing it, too). Some two-handers improvise in defence and hit a one-handed backhand (this is even much more common). Some right handers even hit a left-handed forehand in these situations. Just do whatever works in tough positions when you have too little time to hit your standard shot.

Wawrinka and Dimitrov still being around shows how competitive and high level of tennis the last generation had. Imagine such monsters still competting with young players that are in their prime and 10~18 years younger than them yet maintain their level. Imagine how good these players that were at Big 3's shadow (or big 4 if we include Andy) in their prime if they played in this generation. I gotta say I LOVE how Dimitrov resembles Roger's style so much!!!

Absolutely, i honestly only took notice of his grit and work rate in the previous match against Kecmanovic. A title win is definitely something he needs ryt nw at this point in his career, however im behind Grigor in the final who was equally very impressive against a very aggressive Tallon Griekspoor, however he will need to bring the same level if not higher to this final.

@@mocee83 I really like Dimi, his skill level, shot making capabilities, superb backhand, very well rounded but... he has many times seemed like loses concentration/nervousness/poor shot selection/lack of aggression to name a few and, he loses. I am Novak fan who was said he is the strongest mentally, and I would say Dimi at times his reaction, accuracy and shots are better. Also father time is just around the corner and against Paul who is so quick and powerful may be too much to overcome.

Damn shame for Stan that Paul had one of the 3-4 best matches of his career yesterday! There aren't more than 3 players that could beat yesterday's Paul, he was too good. And still, the only difference with Stan was on-court movement. But it was a HUGE difference! Stan's is a lil better than a servebot, while Paul's court-coverage, at least yesterday, was top-tier.

2 things: When the underdog wins the 1st set, 90 percent of the time they’re gonna be down 2-0 in the 2nd. The letdown effect after the 1st set is nutty. 2nd: Griekspoor and Davidovich have the same strokes. The similarities are crazy.

You know funny thing but I think it might be because they’re using white rackets and the strokes look even more similar. My eyes always see strokes stand out when players use white frames, it’s very odd.

Neither groundstroke is that similar between the two; if you were watching them play a match, you’d be able to tell pretty quickly who was who if they physically looked similar in any way
