Backhands like Wawrinka prove that the one-handed backhand is absolutely not inferior to the two-handed backhand, and that the reason for its decline is a self-fulfilling prophecy created by narrow-minded coaches who won't let the young generation try to be like Stan the Man. Long love the one-handed backhand.
@mocee83
@mocee83 2 ай бұрын
Nt to worry though, there is a whole new generation trying to copy every single shot and movement of the great RF thanks to their parents. They will in a few years break through the ranks to reveal their ohbh weapon, new and improved.
@J.-M.
@J.-M. 2 ай бұрын
@@mocee83 Players inspired by RF are already on the tour, some of them are even retired. No new kids start using the one-handed BH because of Roger (or anybody else), he's been a retired player for quite some time and many new fans don't have a clue about him (and spew ignorant nonsense here). Sadly, the shot has been basically forbidden in tennis academies for years and decades. Coaches also have no clue about the shot whatsoever anymore. They only know the outdated 20th century version, they don't know anything about the modern, 21st century one-hander that's still very viable in modern tennis. So they either refuse teaching it (99.99% of them) as they consider it completely useless in modern tennis, and those very few who teach it teach a very mediocre, old-fashioned version of the shot (see Mpetshi Perricard). Which then only confirms the flawed but prevailing general perception that the shot should never be taught to anyone anymore.

As a Swiss, I'm especially proud of Stricker after he was injured, the way he played here. He deserves recognition, he has already beaten Tsitsipas once & has been insulted several times because he is not as thin as many others - that doesn't belong in tennis and is sad - the people who say that. Hope he comes & comes and of course would be very happy if he won this tournament. And of course Stan the Man with his beautiful backhand - I'd really like him to win here too - but Rublev, Dimitrov & Ruud are still waiting... I think it should be possible for him - think of Bryan Johnson - to step up a gear again. Maybe - no idea who it is now - Stricker will get the former coach, I think his name was Lüthi, of the legend, the one and only, the maestro; Federer, on board?
