@@-music2023 I think Fognini is a really interesting player as well. hmm well.. You'd need to distinguish between 3 different categories of backhand speed... but Stan, even though his bh is sooo awesome, is not in the Top 3 in any of those a) Highest average backhand speed: Sinner (two-hander) followed by Klizan (two-hander) The one-handed bh player with the highest average backhand speed who's also the one who has the highest averagee bh speed in the Top 20 is Thiem (one-hander) followed by Zverev (two-hander) b) those who regularly peak the highest: Thiem (one-hander) followed by Shapovalov (one-hander) followed by Gasquet (one-hander) Thiem and Shapovalov regularly attack with more than 90 mph c) the fastest bh shots ever: Thiem (104 mph at this year's RG against Casper Ruud) followed by Nadal (against Djokovic at Montreal 2013) and Gasquet (against Murray at the Sony Open 2013) with 103 mph each. Stan's amazings and has a fast bh, but it's not as fast as others.. and he never hit a bh with 100 mph or more

More than half were one-handed backhands. It's a much longer stroke than a two-hander.
@parkercrossland4104 жыл бұрын
The 2 hander is typically generating power by pushing with the weak hand and using the strong for control and spin. The 1 hander generates power by pulling with the dominant hand, which is almost always mechanically stronger. It also allows more body torque.
@drinknot4 жыл бұрын
Because the one-hander backswing and follow-through are not restricted by the non-dominant arm, the racquet head is able to travel a significantly longer path. Any slo-mo comparison will bear this out. A longer head path, for advanced players naturally increases "head-speed".
@drinknot4 жыл бұрын
@jjmah11 "Pace" on a tennis shot is not (or should not be) generated with muscle, but with correct form and fluidity. It is a fact that a two-handed backhand (or forehand) is a more restrictive stroke.
@drinknot4 жыл бұрын
@jjmah11 the average baseball bat weighs somewhere around 2-1/2 pounds, so it would be nearly impossible for a batter to get it around in time to meet the ball with one hand/arm. Tennis racquets weigh on average, 10 ounces. Holding any object with 2 hands naturally adds strength, but strength doesn't necessarily equal speed.

Wow. Some amazing backhands there. Difficult to pick my favourites. Nalbandian and Djokovic for me have the best double handed backhands but in this compilation I will pick the flat strike of Fognini. When he pulls it off, it’s truly sublime. Nadal’s cross court backhands are lethal and definitely worth a mention. But my favourites are single backhands. When Federer’s is on song, it’s beautiful. When he beat Novak at the French (I forget the year), his backhand was top drawer and in 2017, I think his backhand won him titles and humiliated Nadal (after years of being humiliated by Nadal). Most will say Wawrinka has the most deadly single backhand and they are right. But my favourite here is Gasquet’s. I could watch that all day long. Sadly he hasn’t managed to achieve the degree of success he’d have aspired to early on but as they say, it’s tough at the top.These are mostly attacking backhands which is only part of the game. Some of the single backhands aren’t as good under pressure and attack. That’s why if I had to pick an all round backhand that does it all supremely well I’d have to choose Novak or Nalbandian.

@@gravinboginagis6568 Zverev has the second highest average bh speed in the Top 20 (the overhighest in the Top 20 has Thiem and the overall highest has Sinner) The one who peaks the highest is Thiem, followed by Gasquet, followed by Shapovalov... but Zverev does indeed sometimes have really fast bh winners... of course, Zverev sometimes makes double faults, but that doesn't change the fact that he has a fast bh. Btw, if you e.g. watch the Tenniv TV video uploaded a few days ago about the fastest bh winners this season at atp tournaments, you'll see that only the bhs of 3 players have made it there: Thiem's (who has by far the most), followed by Shapovalov and Zverev However, not in this video is Thiem's 104 mph winner against Ruud this season because it was at a slam (at RG).. the fastest bh ever recorded (followed by Nadal's and Gasquet's 203 mph (both in 2013))
