The best a capella group in my opinion

This song is done in a country reggae beat. It showcases the higher & lower ranges of both Tim Foust & Avi Kaplan. That last note of Tim is impressive with how low he goes, but more impressive is how long he sustains the note. On the "Sing Off Show" that Home Free won in 2013 Tim (without Avi) goes even lower on this song "Ring Of Fire" & he impressed the judges so much that they gave them a standing ovation. And Adam Rupp once again was stellar in his vocal percussion.

I think Avi was going out on his own during this time, and Home Free was supporting him and introducing him to their audience

I think a lot of people's ears are drawn to the higher pitches. I don't know if it's my brain or my ears, but often really high pitched sounds make it feel like my ears hurt from it. I'm a bass gal all the way...that's just what I naturally gravitate toward. Whether the singer is a male or female, I just always prefer the lower tones...give me a great bass or contralto every time! Here we have 2 of the best basses in the business, imo, and it makes my ears very, very happy ;)

Trying to hit either the highs or the lows is normal for lots of people. As a contralto around the tenor range I tend to sing the base line with Tim, just an octave up

Did it even register to you that Avi Kaplan was the second bass in this? You didn't say anything about realizing that.

I tend to pick up on the lower notes too. For me it happens more with concert band/symphony music. I always just thought it was due to playing a low brass instrument for 10+ years (mostly in school band). I’m ok with that though because to me the bass/low frequencies feel similar to the perfect hug when you most needed it.

Please check out Voiceplay's cover of "The Dragonborn Comes". Bassman Geoff (Jeff), gets it started with a low.low growl, I believe a C1 or something like that. The song is from the video game Skyrim and features Omar Cardona. Voice Play get into costumes of characters you might see in the game. They sing a few verses in the dragon language and do dragon Shouts. It's epic! Thanks!

You can actually train your voice to hit those notes or close to them. Tim has a 5 octive range. If he can hit the high tenor notes I'm sure, if you work at it, you can hit at least baritone if not some base. Listen to them do Mayday and be blown away by Tim.
