Thanks for sharing. Just checking an ROC tenor mouthpiece on ebay. Very interesting how you've refurbished this.

I have the same mouthpiece for alto, it has the band and the black inside as well, seems to be original. Plays well. It has a bit more bright edge to the sound compared to my Meyer sm 7. It plays nice and even with good intonation.

How do you know when an epoxy or other two part repair filler is safe to put in your mouth? I have a favorite alto mouthpiece with tooth gouges it like to fix.

I have researched for information on the materials I use. There are some risks identified in the MSDS for me in handling the 2 components. The same risks are mentioned with dental epoxy components. But once they are thoroughly mixed and cured they become inert. For tooth gouges, I repair them with acrylic. That is a common material used for bite plates in metal mouthpieces.

I am very interested in this mouthpiece. Does anyone have its sound test or performance video?

That is a very interesting inner baffle design. It would seem that the air would hit that cut out section like a brick wall unlike my rubber otto link 8 which is a pure air flow design.

Do you know what year the ROC Britone was being used

It should be mentioned that now that the repair is done, it would be advisable to use a Clear Runyon mouthpiece patch in order to protect the bite plate against further wear.

I recently purchased a used tenor sax with a new condition vintage A Gigliotti 7G* tenor mouth piece. What is it worth?

years ago I found one of these in a bag of mouthpieces a friend had. It was the oddest baffle I have ever seen. It was all white, so I would wager the bite plate is a repair. IIRC the inside was all white as well. Could the black in the shank end be a sheet of teflon or something like that used to reduce the size of the shank?

Yes, I can see how the full width bite plate was a repair. Possibly the same repair material was used inside the shank. I did not see a seam that would indicate a sheet of material was used inside the bore. Could be a sleeve, but that would be a lot of work to get one to fit just right. But a layer of epoxy could make the sleeve work.

Compared with my alto Britone the bite plate, the shank ring and the black lining are original features of the ROC mouthpiece. I also have a white Brilhart Personaline alto piece made by the same company in England. It has the ring on the shank, a smaller black bite plate and no lining to the shank. Needing a repair to a seriously chewed bite plate (Brilhart Level Aire) I took it to a dental technician who was so amazed to be given a job not directly tooth related that he fixed it on the spot without charge!

Thank you. I'd thought about doing it this way rather than having a new plate fitted but didn't know what material to use. Epoxy or glass fibre might do the job but wear away those two front teeth. Your Dp 810 black is obviously the right stuff. Just as an aside...Why would they make a dental compound in black? Makes you think..
@MojoBari
@MojoBari 8 жыл бұрын
I did not call it a dental compound. But It is safe when mixed and cured hard.

Hi... Thanks for the reply. I now find that I can't obtain Dp 810 in UK but have been supplied with 3M Scotchweld 8805 as a claimed substitute. If you are familiar with it, do have an opinion? Is the mixing ratio of acrylics critical? Thanks for taking your time to reply.
@MojoBari

MauriatOttolink I rarely use DP 810 anymore. If you see my newer videos, I use a powder acrylic with a liquid monomer. These are sold in the beauty industry to make fingernail art.

Many thanks for your advice. I have a Florida with bite groove (chasm?) showing a pin hole of metal. Considered nail materials. Apart from colo(u)r, the only variation seems to be the curing speed of the monomer. Will the final hardness be much same at any speed? Thank you..Hope to get my MojoTenor working! Regards.

Does someone have experience with this piece? It's design looked interesting in the video and in ebay this pieces are relatively cheap, I wish to know if they are any good.

Great for busking. Not subtle, very much maintain their own sound, takes some time to get used to the feel due to that baffle that disrupts the airflow and adds complexity to the stream, but the sound is sexy loud, textured, mid-range fat. Well finished too. ROC made Brilharts in the UK, then switched from mouthpieces to plastic stackable chairs!
