I have a Red Prysock 78rpm and I didn't until just down realize the magnitude of his power. This is just as good as any of the saxophone greats. So perfect love it!

My uncle played with Red and is on a lot of his studio recordings. He was a vibraphonist and his name was Roland Johnson from a small town outside Philly. He might even have been on this record with the band.

i love both these cats, and brother arthur too since i was 15 years old. later on i got to gig with sil austin-- literally a dream come true. what a swinger and gentleman he was.----if i feel down i can play reds "hand clappin" and lose the blues quick

Red Prysock and Hand Clappin, Sil Austin and Slow Walk Rock. Two of my favorite tenor sax players. The third being Sam Butera and Return to Sorrento.

I wore this LP out when I was kid…I owned one of the first electric basses and played along with this…I think "A Train" was the flip side.

I was a huge fan of Red Prysock all the way back to the 50's when I used to buy all his records that were on 45's. On Mercury records. But I was starting to play tenor then when I was about 14 years old, and I was drawn to the way that he phrased, his choice of notes, and his unique way of tonguing. Plus I would copy all his solos note for note. And as far as that album that he did with Sil Austin, Red just blew him away. Frank Collett
@SaxJockey Жыл бұрын
Red's phrasing and power is off the scale! You mention tonguing; that's one aspect that is difficult to follow and add to a score. Pity that there are no videos whatsoever of Red on KZbin; would have liked to have seen how he played.

This is for TheBobbyfaria 4 comments down. If you'll just Google their name and go to images, you'll find that both Sil and Red are playing right handed tenor saxophones. I met Red personally many years ago, and he was playing right handed then and I believe he's still playing right handed. I'm with you; that they flipped the photos. Nice catch.....

As far as that guy talking about playing right handed tenor saxophones, he doesn't know what he's talking about. I think that he's goes by the name of Nic Nack. The saxophone was only designed to play only one way. The right hand played the keys on the right side of the horn, and the left hand played the top keys of the horn. All the horn players that I ever saw all played that way, even if you stood on your head and played the horn that way. I suggest that this guy does some homework on that subject. Frank Collett

I have a left handed watermelon at home.... we eat them at night time when the sun is out, standing at a corner in a circle, but they taste best when you eat them without ever touching them and use the left handed spoon with all your guests on the front porch in the rain while you are at the beauty parlor.
