Looks great. It must be pretty satisfying to build your own uke.

This was a fun series to watch and the final video putting it all together was solid too. Great work, Chris.

I just started my StewMacTenor. I've done a lot of finish work on the job and in my shop so I'm used to gluing things together. I didn't use painter's tape inside the body of the uke, I just applied Titebond to the underside of the braces like you did, pressed the braces on the penciled outline and cleaned up the squeeze-out with a damp Q-Tip followed by a dry Q-tip. It seemed like a lot less work than taping but might be challenging for a beginner. I should add, this should not be attempted on the finished sides as any glue residue will show. Thanks for the video, I will refer to it as I move the project along.

I meant to ask what did you use for a finish? I was thinking amber shellac as a base coat then wipe-on poly but wasn't sure.

I used tru oil. Didn’t thin it out or anything. Just straight out of the bottle. Can’t complain; it came out pretty well. Thanks for watching and commenting!

If I had all the time in the world and didn't need to practice playing I would think about making one.

This video is a nice idea! You did a great job on the build! I enjoyed watching it all. How about a shop tour video before you start the guitar?
@CMRWoodworks4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I’ve been wanting to do another shop tour video. Haven’t done one since 2013, during my early woodworking days. But I’ve got some cleaning to do before that so it may not happen until some time later, haha. Thanks for the idea!

Very nice video! Glad to hear it sounds nice. I purchased one of these kits like 3 years ago...just about done. 😋 What's that? Why has it taken me so long. Oh...well...I got a little burnt out on trying to be an overachiever and set it aside for a couple years. Should have made a video like you though...would have been fun.

Hey at least you are actually going to finish! A lot of people would just never return to it after a couple of years. Thanks for watching and taking the time tp type!

Did you have to saw off your sides at all to fit in the mold? I’ve bought a kit from StewMac and it had sides that were way too big. I’m having trouble squaring them up after cutting them
@CMRWoodworks4 жыл бұрын
I didn‘t have to trim the sides. They were the exact size to fit in the mold. So you are saying yours were too long and would have overlapped where they meet in the mold? In that case, yes you would probably have to trim them, but the cuts you make would need to be really accurate square cuts so that the alignment is good.
@Ryan_F.4 жыл бұрын
@@CMRWoodworks yep exactly, they overlap in the mold. Knowing exactly how much on the upper and lower ends to trim off has been a challenge. But yeah my cuts aren’t super square-I should probably do something to compensate for that in the future since they were just freehand with a small saw 😜. I’m fairly new to this sort of thing. Haven’t done wood working since shop class many years ago hah

My top and bottom in my Stew Mac Soprano uke kit were overlapping as well. The Stew Mac video showed using an expensive dremel router attachment. Instead, I used my dremel with a flex head and small 1/2" sanding drum at 120 grit. Took my time and the dremel took it down just proud of the sides pretty easily with a steady hand. Then I used 120..220...800..2000 grits until the sides and top/bottom had no lip and everything was baby smooth.

What is the fretboard sizes in Centimeter?
@CMRWoodworks4 жыл бұрын
Sorry I do not know. The fretboard came premade in the kit.
