I built one with tension adjustment to minimize flex of the top, and I have a TV on it. Works great.

you need to tighten the chains up a little bit on the sides

That’s the point, the chains need to be loose abit

Pretty much any kind of rope or chain in tension is going to be stronger than a most kinds of wood in compression. Plus this is just too cool!

The most unreliable table ever

It's actually pretty sturdy, the first thing to break would be the middle chain so as long as what you're putting on isn't heavy enough to snap a chain it will hold

Its actually really resistant to compression so it likely won't break easily when you put stuff directly on top of it, the only things that could mess it up is putting a weight on it that's heavy enough to overcome the tensile strength of the chain or disturbing I equilibrium by knocking it to the side.

Not really, this design was actually used in Architectural Design because it's prove to be very sturdy as long as the material used is right

Needs more tension in that slack chain to bear heavier loads

Design with the third chain bending loose and inner wood hook at the vertex rather than side.
