Tensions escalate as Tenerife told to get rid of Brits wearing popular items on beach

Tensions are rising in Spain with tourists sporting 'flip flops' coming under fire.
Opera star Ainhoa Arteta has spoken out following protests by locals against UK holidaymakers. As reported by the Mirror, Arteta is pleading for a shift towards more "cultural" tourism. It comes following complaints from locals about the current class of visitors.

Be careful what you wish for! As a German who lives in Germany I originally wanted to go on holiday to the Canary Islands to escape the cold and rainy weather in Germany. I won't be doing that now, I'm going to choose a different destination. The Canary Islands are no longer on my travel list. I will only go on holiday where I am welcomed as a tourist and not seen as a nuisance.

People should just go elsewhere. Quite happy to take tourists cash over the years without complaining. Let people lose their jobs in the bars, taxis, restaraunts and hotels, they will not be long in asking tourists back.

Fair enough for locals housing prices but how much money does tourism bring in , i am from south wales where there are beautiful coastal homes many of which are snapped up for holiday homes and the local youngsters haven't got a chance of buying are property so heart felt. Sentiments to canary isles population sstay strong ❤

Just another click bait bs headline. Tourists are welcome to these islands, the locals are not stupid. They actually know where the money comes from - tourists. If you removed tourism from their islands, who will employ the thousands of workers who are directly employed thru tourism ? The locals have an issue with their government and local clowncils how they manage their islands.

They don’t have a problem with people wearing them on the beaches, they don’t want people to drive wearing them, that’s a danger to the driver and other road users, they are healthy and safety measures, and looking at those roads, the driver needs to be able to use the pedals correctly…. “Flip flops” are exactly that, they want people to drive wearing shoes or sandals that are strapped to your feet, for your safety, that’s just sense and reason, why would people have a problem with that? It’s a genuine issue….
