An important aspect missed here is reciprocity failure of films for longer exposures. When shooting night scenes, you need to factor that in, there are dedicated apps for that as well.
@teocrawford2 жыл бұрын
Ohh true! Do you have a recommended app for that?
@abussin2 жыл бұрын
What do you recommend for night light meters ?
@importashion2 жыл бұрын
Any recommendations for that?
@danielegerussi74532 жыл бұрын
I forward nick carver's reccomendation: reciprocity timer, it also hase some more nice features. As far as metering goes, meter normally and add reciprocity failure corrections as suggested by the app
@chriswilcockson85952 жыл бұрын
The Light Metre app (with the f /16 logo) has reciprocity as one of its features. Haven't tested yet

An important note on the android app. On some phones the camera reading overexposes by like two stops. If you can, take a reading from your digital camera and adjust the EV tab in the app so you get the same reading (or maybe only like 0.5 over). You could also use the incident feature, if you're doing portraits (in my experience it's way more accurate).
@teocrawford2 жыл бұрын
Ohh really? :o Thank you for adding this tip!🙏🏼
@riama40982 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for the video. I still have a question. What is "ev" an how does it affect the metering?
@psajgal2 жыл бұрын
@@riama4098 I was referring to the app. The EV dial can be used to correct bad metering in the app. Your goal should be to adjust the EV tab (located bottom left in the android app) and match it with the reading you get out of your digital camera, or another film camera you know meters correctly. You only need to do this if you know the readings you get from the app are off. Looking at my negatives, I realized the app consistently metered 2 stops over. So I used the EV dial to adjust it for a correct exposure. It's quite hard to explain, hope it helped at least a little bit
@aeyde2 жыл бұрын
what if the app gives wierd readings like 1 second at f1.4 on sunny day.
@psajgal2 жыл бұрын
@@aeyde if it's stuck on that value, then I can't help you. If the value changes and is just massively overexposed, then adjust the EV same as I described to fix it

Just like to add something that people might not know of or could be useful but if you're using your built in camera app the "PRO" mode has the manual and auto settings which can also be useful to tell you the light metering.

Thanks for the tip! I had no idea you have apps for this. But do you overexpose your photos usually one or more stops?
@teocrawford2 жыл бұрын
Sure! :) Depends on the scene - for example the CineStill shots at night were mostly exposed normally. But when shooting in sunny conditions I might decide to overexpose by a stop to reveal the shadows a bit more, whereas in dark photos I don’t mind if the shadows get very dark🙌🏼

But i get correct values on the app mentioned in the comments by @reestie ! I always check the values with trusty SLR's Minolta X700 or X500 or Contax RTS or with hand light meters like Weimarlux CDS.
