I'm so glad you're using a limited palette to begin with. As a beginner that's ask I have so it's helpful to learn what I can do with only 12 colors.

I know. I bought 9 tubes from Mission Gold - more affordable, and so glad he does these videos plus some swatches from other brands- Incase I want to buy individual tubes. I can not afford sets of professional Watercolours, and I do more florals so pink is my most fav colour.

As usual, another great video! I really appreciate the times when you go into the "why" of something. I am better at "connecting the dots" when I know "why" something is the way it is. Thank you!

I often don't like the way reds look diluted, but when I think of them as possible skin tones I like them a lot better. I liked the clean floral pink that quin red produced when diluted!

Sudden revelation! Making pinks in watercolor is like using liquid blush in cosmetics!!

The cooler pinks are great for floral studies which I prefer as I do more of those rather than portraits.

+Steven I have some Rosemary brushes but not the flat brush. As for Connoisseur, the width is 8mm. It's a good brush. Both Rosemary and Connoisseur can fit into the 12 half pan watercolor box.

I really appreciate your video! I have two different reds from two different brands so I can do some color swatching tonight. I had no idea that water had a lot to do with making pink. Bravo and thanks once again! 😁😁

Hi Teoh, first thanks for your videos, returning to painting after years away, I find them so useful and I really enjoy your laid back style. I don't want to dilute red with white or, if I can avoid it, buy more multi-pigment colours. How can I achieve a vibrant pink, such as opera pink; can I do it solely by layering? I doubt it makes much difference but I have WN, Mijello and Daniel Smith watercolours.

Just use more water. With the dominant colour, add small amount of another colour.

Hello Teoh. Great tips! can you compare Daniel Smith and Mission Gold and give your opinion of the two? Do they handle the same when your painting? I know some paints diffuse more in wet in wet or sometimes the colors stay put without diffusing. Sometimes you are more likely to get more hard edges or blooms with different paints. Which one do you like better? Thanks for your great reviews.
@teohyc8 жыл бұрын
+IllustrationsByPete They are both high quality paints. Mission Gold has less standard names for their colours, e.g. Peacock Blue. Whether or not the colours diffuse really depends on the colour and binder that's used. There are colours that do not diffuse well in Daniel Smith also. I suggest getting the brand that's easier for you to replace when you run out of paints. For me that would be Daniel Smith as there's a local shop here that sells them. Here's my review of the Mission Gold set I was using in the video: www.parkablogs.com/picture/review-mission-gold-watercolors-9-tube-set

Did you mean DSmith’s transparent pyrrol orange? Because there is no transparent pyrrol red on the DS chart.

+malisha patel Well, you can think of it as a game. Challenge yourself to find interesting things or compositions (how many different angles can you see) to draw, whether at home, outside or on the way to school. Another helpful video, but I think the Daniel Smith color you are using is Transparent Pyrrol Orange, rather than Transparent Pyrrol Red. They don't make a Transparent Pyrrol Red. I use this orange as my warm red for mixing. They do make a semi-transparent color called "Pyrrol Red," but I think you have the transparent orange.
Fuschia looks like magenta so it's best to get a tube colour rather than mix to get it.

Hi, I use schmincke horadam watercolor and looking at coloro in their color table i can find only a Rose madder that is very low as lightfast but can't find Permanent Rose ( not sure if is called with an other name ).Do you have any experience with that colors for pink? Thanks

@toeh yi chie can u tell please.. is there a difference between white nights watercolors? i mean it's all the same quality, or there's a student grade & artists grade? and great video btw, thanks!
@teohyc8 жыл бұрын
+Nayyera Ragab I believe White Nights is artist quality because the colours can mix well without losing vibrancy. However, I feel that their colours slightly chalky when mixed. But overall still very good value and something that I can recommend. I've the 12 pan box set which is compact and I like it.

okay, now.. which brand would u recommend for me, semi-artistic grade.. with about 25$-30$ ?

I bought the 12 set of 5ml tubes of Holbein and while I'm super pleased with it, it made me realise I need more pinks in my palette XP This video helps a lot! I'll look for these tones when ordering some new tubes hehe. ALSO MY QUESTION IS: How are you so well organised Teoh? You have your channel, your blog, your full time job and you even find time to sketch regularly. Really inspiring o(*>ω
@teohyc8 жыл бұрын
+Noxmoony Not sure if you need more pinks. LOL. Usually people would get a warm and cool red, then something in between or a magenta. Check out this article by Jane Blundell www.janeblundellart.com/red-watercolour-swatches.html I don't actually sketch regularly and by regularly I mean daily. I only sketch when I have time which is usually during cafe sketching sessions 2-3 times a month and also during the official sketchwalk. The rest and most of the time is spent working on the blog and creating videos. I don't really do anything else. Hahhaah.
@noxmoonyisadork8 жыл бұрын
Teoh Yi Chie I mean I have Vermilion which is really warm and Crimson lake which leans towards the cool side of the spectrum. But it'd be nice to have some specifically pink pigments to play around with. I liked their Opera and Shell Pink, but I guess it's not a must. Diluting reds is already enough. Thanks a lot for the chart! I need to get a few more shades of red. But still, it's a lot of work taking photos, maintaining your channel, reviewing stuff and everything else you do. Hats off! :D
@jasneskis8 жыл бұрын
Many of your pinks were really peach. you did stay transparent rather than using white which many artist do.
@blubberdust3 жыл бұрын
White tends to make a mix quite opaque, which many artists do not like - using the white of the page work just fine
