Thank you for this lesson!! it is SCARY putting little people in paintings. Immediatly I think "portrait", and then decide to leave them out. But, the addition of even a suggestion of people adds great life to the work. I"ll try hard to add people from now on, based on your teachings here.

I am just beginning to do figure drawing. I took my first class about two weeks ago. However I am very slow and can never seem to get far on my sketch. I usually do buildings and places, and took the class so I could add people. I didn't know about eye level. So that was VERY helpful. I also have never drawn people so simply. I think you're spot on with keeping them simple so the rest of the drawing is the focus. Thank you for posting.

Hello, I'm really enjoying your videos. You're so talented and very informative. I may be going to my first urban sketchers meet up this week, here in Seattle and I was wondering if you could do a video on what supplies you take with you to sketch and paint and perhaps what bag you use to carry them. I've gone sketching before on my own and usually just bring my book, watercolor palette and pencil case but curious as to what you bring when you go out?
@teohyc8 жыл бұрын
You can just bring whatever that is comfortable for you to carry. In addition to drawing materials, I like to bring a portable stool so that I can sit anywhere, and a hat in case it is too sunny. I've created a video of my sketching kit that you can watch at kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYLccoGYebirlZI

Your mall scene at 12:02...it looks like you drew it while sitting down, so your eye level would've been at belly level to those standing, so vanishing point would not necessarily be at their eye level, but at their belly level.

Theo, I love your videos, they are GREAT, very detail, your information is very helpful, and your art is amazing, I look forward to watch all your videos and all the ones to come in the future. what pen did you used to draw in this video? and what pen do you recommend for a beginner sketcher like me. I want a good quality one but not too expensive. thanks a lot
@teohyc8 жыл бұрын
+Angela Daly The pen in the video is a Sailor pen with Zoom nib. I used that because the lines are thick and will show up better in video. There's a video review for the pen at kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4fafKSFnq-enbc For beginners, I recommend getting a Lamy Safari fountain pen (and ink converter sold separately). If you have more budget, try the Duke 209 with bent nib. For ink, I would recommend Noodler's Black, Platinum Carbon or Sailor Kiwa Guro. Reviews are all below. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qX3UnmuKrbKdoMU kzbin.info/www/bejne/qHvHdYGsjsZrlck kzbin.info/www/bejne/fabZgXiFe8mIY7s

Hei Teoh. I really enjoy your videos and this video is really great. I know this was posted a looong time ago but I was wondering about the mall drawing at 12:07 iwhere you point out some mistakes in perspective. Could you maybe do a video where you drew this drawing and other with those mistakes again on camera (just as the originals- but this time correcting the mistakes while showing and explaining? I hope you will consider this idea and that you see this comment even though it’s in such an old video:)

@Teoh Yi Chie, sorry to go off-topic but what OS are you running on your computer, in the background at 0:04 ? Do you use any particular software application to add texts and balloons into a watercoloured picture or graphic novel? Are there any such things?

Thank you for sharing. What kind of ink are you using? India ink in a fountain pen? Doesn't it clog your pen? How do you clean it out? I use a drafting pen with India ink that is not supposed to clog but it still clogs and I have to clean it our once a week...which is a painful procedure.
@teohyc8 жыл бұрын
+Bestbrushstroke I use Noodlers Bulletproof ink in my fountain pens. For drafting pens, perhaps you can try Rotring ink. Anyway, those pens do require cleaning occasionally.
