In this video, our own ITC Certified Thermographer Devin goes into deep detail comparing the FLIR C5 to the Seek ShotPro. Both of these thermal cameras are right around the same price, and both are about the same size. Each one has a 3.5-inch touchscreen display and is about the size of a smartphone so they're both small enough to fit in your pocket.
However, there are some big differences between the two. First of all, the Seek ShotPro has higher infrared resolution at 320x240 pixels. The FLIR C5 has thermal resolution of 160x120 - that's still very powerful and meets the RESNET standard for building inspection.
Overall, the Seek ShotPro will provide sharper thermal images thanks to its higher resolution. However, while resolution is important, it's not the only thing to consider when comparing these cameras. The FLIR C5 comes from one of the biggest names in thermal imaging, so it has a much more polished user interface and overall better quality sensor. FLIR also has a robust reporting suite of free software like FLIR Tools which makes it easy to make professional reports.
Additionally, the C5 has a new feature called FLIR Ignite Cloud, which is essentially like Google Photos but for your thermal images. When you're connected to WiFi (or connected to a smartphone via Bluetooth), the C5 camera will automatically upload all your images to the FLIR Ignite Cloud so you always have them backed up. FLIR Ignite Cloud also has some great features to help you stay organized.
While both cameras do have some form of visual/thermal image blending, the way these methods work for each camera is totally different. On the FLIR C5, you get powerful FLIR MSX which takes visual details from the unit's built-in digital camera and embosses them on thermal images - it's not an overlay or layer blending, it's much better. On the Seek ShotPro, you get Seek Fusion which is a more straightforward layer blending technology. It still provides visual details in IR images, but it's nowhere near as crisp and clear as FLIR MSX. Check out the sample IR images in the video to see for yourself.
Both cameras can also connect to WiFi and communicate with smartphones. However, on the C5, you also have the option to do this via Bluetooth. We've found the Bluetooth option to be more reliable. It's also much faster to connect and reconnect since the camera will remember the last Bluetooth device it was connected to.
When you connect either camera to a smartphone, you can then use the respective FLIR and Seek apps. Using these apps, you can adjust and edit images before exporting. On the Seek, other than on the camera itself, this is the only way to edit images. On the FLIR, you can also use the free FLIR Tools desktop software to edit and process images. FLIR Tools also has an excellent reporting feature for making professional reports - if you require reporting, we strongly recommend FLIR.

I enjoy your videos, lots of good info. How do you rate the C3-X against the Seek Shot and ShotPro? The C3-X seem to have, for the most part, about the same specs to the C5 aside from the higher temp limit. Thanks.

Thanks, glad you like the videos. The C3-X is a good camera and is basically the same as the C5 but it is much more stripped-down with less features. The C5 has higher IR resolution, video streaming, zoom capabilities, 1-Touch Level/Span, and a higher temperature range limit. Check out the C3-X on our site here: www.tequipment.net/FLIR/C3-X/Building-and-Industrial-Thermal-Imagers/

Thanks for your review. I am looking for one thermal camera. But I am looking for a function to measure the temperature from the saved video. SEEK pro has a function to measure the temperature from the saved photo. I wonder if SEEK pro can measure the temp from the saved video. Can you please advise?

In fact, none of Seek's thermal cameras provide radiometric thermal video (video with temperature data) which you can use to measure temperature values. The ShotPro does allow you to stream thermal video over WiFi, but it isn't radiometric so there is no temperature data. The cheapest IR camera from FLIR that provides radiometric thermal video is the E53 - you can check it out here: www.tequipment.net/FLIR/E53/Building-and-Industrial-Thermal-Imagers/

I would like to know which difference sharp pictures mean when I'm inspecting walls & ceilings. Also I'd like a live-test on a high rise building (5 to 15 stores) but I live in the Netherlands. I'm looking for sharpness of overall view - which looks like the C5 won.. - looking for temp. differences in ceilings (like secret entrances & inside hollow spaces - I've got a person in my apartment that I've never met or seen. - looking for hemp-growth apartments equipment like lamps, ventilators etc. in an apartment. Could you otherwise recommend a camera for either the 1st or 2nd job ? (< 1000 euro's)
@TEquipment
@TEquipment 3 жыл бұрын
Either the C5 or ShotPro would be a good candidate for your application - for the price, these cameras offer the best features and resolution. Both cameras are able to identify temperature differences in ceilings and walls to show gaps and missing insulation. These cameras are also able to detect the excessive heat generated by indoor plant growing equipment but they can't see through walls so you wouldn't be able to see any actual equipment in use. Check out the image comparison at 07:34 and the live demo at 08:05 - the ShotPro does have higher resolution but the C5 has MSX which is much better at giving you those visual details than Seek Fusion. FLIR also has better reporting software and a more polished user interface on the camera. It really comes down to what is more important to you for your application.

All the cameras you list are excellent. Since you don't need special features, it comes down to the resolution that you need. Higher IR resolution is almost always better. The Seek ShotPro is the best choice with highest IR resolution: www.tequipment.net/Seek-Thermal/ShotPRO/Building-and-Industrial-Thermal-Imagers/

Hi which is the best one for outdoors based on range and clarity?
@TEquipment
@TEquipment Жыл бұрын
Hello! The Seek Thermal ShotPRO has a better clarity at 320 x 240 (76,800 pixels), while the FLIR C5 has a sensor of 160 × 120 (19,200 pixels). In terms of temperature range, the ShotPRO has a range of -40°F to 626°F, while the C5 has a range of -4° to 752°F, meaning the C5 has a higher range, but the ShotPRO can measure lower temps., so it all depends on your needs. Is it possible with either of these two cameras to save the images and then check the temperatures of different spots, later on, using a computer?
@TEquipment
@TEquipment 3 жыл бұрын
Both of these cameras allow you to save radiometric images (images with temperature data). However, only FLIR C5 includes the software you need to analyze and edit these images. It's called FLIR Tools and it's free with most FLIR cameras, Seek doesn't currently offer any software like this.

For the C5 definitely. It’s a really nice device and can I can confirm that you can inspect the type of info you’re wanting in post. Makes it really nice when you can just focus on getting shots quick and evaluating data later on.
@artgeigel7679
@artgeigel7679 3 жыл бұрын
One note on the C5: if you take just a straight up image (this just the 5MP camera) without using a camera mode that utilizes the thermal it will NOT also capture data. But 99.9% of the time you’d likely not be in that mode anyway since if you just wanted to take a pic you’d likely use your phone’s camera. Just wanted to point that one exception out.

In the image comparison it looks like they are showing different results. The flir has dark blues, but the seek is all red?? Which one is more correct. Looks like the flir?
@TEquipment
@TEquipment 3 жыл бұрын
We did not verify the temperature accuracy in those sample images, they are purely to show the differences in resolution and Fusion/MSX. It could be that the color variations you see are just due to the color palette differences between each camera. FLIR states that C5 accuracy from 0 to 100°C (32 to 212°F) is ±3°C (±5.5°F) and from 100 to 400°C (212 to 752°F) is ±3%. Seek has not published the accuracy rating of the ShotPro in any of the product materials.

@@iknowhatisaw check out the FLIR Scout TK. It’s their low end thermal monocular. A little dated (no WiFi and no Bluetooth) but it takes video (no audio however). Decent little thermal that won’t give away position at night since there’s no bright LCD screen. Guessing that might be something to check out. Rechargeable via micro USB and transfer pics/video to computer via USB connection too. If giving away position isn’t a necessity then another option is to check out the FLIR One Pro which connects to your iPhone/Android and can also save video. You get all the core FLIR UX/UI on your phone including MSX.

You would probably be better off with the Seek ShotPro - it's a bit cheaper and offers higher IR resolution at 320x240. That said, neither manufacturer has published an official range statistic for these cameras since they are really intended for industrial and mechanical troubleshooting, home inspections, HVAC, and automotive repairs. For something a bit more suited to outdoor use at longer ranges check out the Seek RevealPRO at the link below. It's around the same price and has an advertised range of up to 1,800ft: www.tequipment.net/Seek-Thermal/RevealPRO/Building-and-Industrial-Thermal-Imagers/

i've been enjoying your reviews. i'd like some advice in buying a thermal imaging camera. part for hobbyist pursuits, part for pizza oven thermal imaging, part artistic interest and a little bit for restaurant and condo association maintenance and diagnostic stuff, but nothing that needs super precision or scientific accuracy. i'd like either a pocket camera or usbc phone attachment. preferably landscape. don't care much about accuracy, more interest in image quality for digital and printed images. interested in variety and quality of color palettes or other image tricks for interesting images. models that do a good job of blending thermal and visual images. don't want forced watermarks. interested in models that will likely have longest firmware support if that's even a thing.. price is under $650. these are ones i've identified as models of interest and welcome any strong recommendations in this group or out. Sorry to hear you had that issue with FLIR ONE Pro. We have not heard of any similar issues on any other FLIR units. If you're trying to decide between the C5 and ShotPro it really comes down to which features you want/need. Both cameras will do what you require - long/short range and hot spots. ShotPro has higher resolution and a lower price, and it still offers image blending. The only big thing it lacks is reporting software. C5 has some cool features that let you transfer images wirelessly and it comes with FLIR Tools for easy reporting. C5 also has a more polished interface. I can't believe that in this review and also the C3 vs C5 comparison you didn't talk at all about the metering functions. After all, we usually want to _measure_ temperature, not just look at colorful images. One of my big complaints with my Flir One Pro is how difficult it is to drag the spot markers to precise positions on the iPhone screen, and I'd like to know how the C5 and the Seek compare in that respect.

It depends on your specific needs and your application. The Seek ShotPro has higher infrared resolution at 320x240 pixels. The FLIR C5 has thermal resolution of 160x120 - that's still very powerful and meets the RESNET standard for building inspection. Overall, the Seek ShotPro will provide sharper thermal images thanks to its higher resolution. However, the C5 has MSX image blending which is far better than Seek Fusion. It also comes with free FLIR Tools reporting software which makes it really easy to make professional reports for clients. The C5 also has a much better user interface, and it's backed by FLIR which is one of the biggest names in thermal imaging. The choice is up to you, there is no clear winner between these 2 cameras. It really comes down to which features you value the most for your needs.

7:43 .... I really dont need more..... Seek Thermal ShotPRO is just much better option. What I need more, than better thermal images? Flir has just much better advertising. They now, how to do something from nothing. Reports....cloud... You just dont need that. If there is an option how to donwload this great images from Seek to PC, what do you need more? You can edit them and make report from them. And Cloud?? I have much of space on my PC for these files..... Sometimes it seems to me that Flir explicitly deceives / scam customers. Why is better sharp-edge no thermal camera to me? Thermal images are what I am interested in. Again there with scam .... Sharp edges give the impression of a better image, but we are talking about thermal images and Flir definitely ... I repeat ... DEFINITELY Flir doesn't has! I'm a little surprised by you that you don't say unequivocally that Seek is simply better for thermal images. You're talking about algorithms for Flir, yet it just smoothing the mistakes that are there as well. But thank you very much for the video, because after I saw that images I am definitelly going for Seek :-)

Many of our professional users prefer FLIR because of the excellent additional features like FLIR Tools for easy reporting. MSX does make a huge difference when you're doing inspections of equipment and buildings because it gives you context of what you're looking at. Cloud connectivity is also nice for super fast image review by colleagues. That said, Seek does have better thermal images because of the higher resolution - if that's your main concern, then you should go for the ShotPRO.
