This is honestly a spot-on analysis. I can never put my finger on the reason why I can't finish replaying Last of Us or Red Dead Redemption 2 considering these games are what I consider my all-time favorites. Yet like clockwork, I always replay the Mass Effect Trilogy or Witcher 3, funnily, almost annually at this point. I think the way we connect with these games at a pivotal moment in our lives shape how we feel about the games we play. I definitely felt a very deep connection with the Mass Effect series, especially since I discovered it after my childhood dog died. The game feels like a very warm hug from a group of friends and I can't explain it any other way. Witcher 3 kind of scratches that same itch for me. I can never get tired of these games.

That’s definitely on my TODO list. I finally pulled Skyrim out of the family game box this January when I was off sick for a few days. I put about 200 hours into it this year, at least the PC version (gave up on the PS3 version after the first few days). Elden Ring looks like a lot of fun cutting a path across the countryside, as well. I’m told I’m supposed to kill off some named dragons or something, but none of my characters get far enough to care 😁

For me, it was the Witcher 3. Just got the Xbox One for christmas in 2017, and stumbled upon it on a shelf of a gaming store. The game changed my life at a period where it was hard to make friends and find new hobbies after moving to a different country. The same happened several years later when I left my parents’ home to move to uni. That’s when i discovered a new comfort show in Naruto 😅

I collect for ps3. Star ocean the last hope is one of my favorite games on ps3. I work a lot and don't have many friends due to life taking all of us in different directions, etc. I love how you travel the galaxy, making new friends with interesting personalities and how different combinations lead to different interactions in the ship or story. On my days off I play the hell out of it. About to beat it and might do new game plus to see what else I've missed. Point is, the friends you make along the way become best friends/family to your main character. Gives me warmth and comfort seeing how their bonds strengthen over time. I should probably reconnect and make new friends as well.

Great video. I don't often replay games, and pretty much never do NG+. I think it's because for me, the combination of the narrative and the gameplay is what's most important. Perfect example: I tried NG+ for God of War (the Norse one) and almost immediately had to stop. Seeing those Blades of Chaos on my back from the beginning was just too much.

Playing a game like Elden Ring that gives you so many choices and each playthrough can feel like a whole new game, these are the games you can play over and over, one save file after another. But I look at games like The Last of Us as games your replay a every couple of years so you can forget aspects of the story over time and try to relive that first playthrough experience as close as possible. That’s how I go about these two types of games. There are games that I have only played through once though because they don’t have much difference between each playthrough.

Hollow Knight for me was my stars aligning, in a time of terrible circumstances the city of tears soundtrack calmed me down and let me have a temporary escape from the bleak reality I was in, god bless that game and all it meant for me back then, I have many more "stars aligning" games but not for terrible times I've had in my life, Final Fantasy VII and its Remake was one of those but I played them in times I believe were one of the best of my life, today, walking in the streets of Midgar with Aerith both in the OG or the Remake feels me with a nostalgia so huge it completely changes my mood for the better, hearing Hollow Skies from the Remake's OST is something akin to levitate and ascend in a sunny summer day with a breeze that heals your soul, it is for me such an unbelievable blessing to have these games tied to me in such a deep way, they become a part of myself I can't ever let go, it's written in my core and DNA now, there's no going back and I love it.

I played Skyrim multiple time since them and never finished the game actually, and played The Last of Us undread of times as well. Both games are still somekind of "a hug" when things are down. Persona 5 Royal was my first JRPG. I picked it up at Walmart in 2020 about 3 days after quarantine became a National standard. It didn’t look like my cup of tea and I had heard about how infamously long it was but I thought “hell. I have nothing but time. Why not try something out of my wheelhouse.” The game brought me to tears multiple times as that was a very lonely time for myself and many people. The characters in the game became my “friends” that I could spend time with when I couldn’t spend time with my real friends. Im the sort of gamer who replays games regularly. In fact i would rather replay a game i love a dozen times than experience something new that isn't as great. I always wondered what drew me back to certain games and not others. And interestingly enough, i learned that it wasnt because the game had a branching narrative or open ended gameplay, it was the pacing and structure. I prefer a shorter, tighter experience than a longer bloated one. Games i have completed dozens of times include Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Metroid Prime, Resident Evil 1- 4, Dead Space, God of War 2, Uncharted 2, Ninja Gaiden, Sekiro, Devil May Cry, Silent Hill 2, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 6-10 and now Elden Ring. These are experiences i find myself returning to throughout the years despite knowing almost every inch of them. I truly believe its due to pacing and gameplay. Because despite a game like Uncharted 2 being exceptionally linear, i would rather go through its set pieces and story beats that remain identical across playthroughs than replay something like Mass Effect, simply because its gameplay is too clunky. Just my two cents. Not sure if others feel the same.

Personaly, i replay almost every game that i like. 1. I'm a sucker for details, storywise but also in the environment. The first playthrough is always unique, but you can't grasp all the details in the writing, because you don't know where the story is heading. GOW Ragnarök is a good example, with the plot Twist around Odin the whole game gets a new spin on a second playthrough. And often you can't find or absorb every little detail in the environment the first time around. Like RDR2, you can spend days in St Denis and still haven't seen everything. 2. Even if i have absorbed every detail there is, i still replay most games. Because they all have unique atmosphere. I replay The Witcher 3 once in a year. It is like a yearly Holiday to the coast or in a mountain village. You know everything in this village, the tourist attractions, the Pubs and Restaurants. But It's not about Findling something New. It is about coming to a peaceful place and enjoy the atmosphere. So Yeah, i only don't replay a game when i find it bad (or incredible mediocre) or when the setting doesn't click (The last of Us for example. The story is fantastic, but i can't connect with Zombie apocalypses).
@radicalcentrist499011 күн бұрын
For me it doesn't matter how much replay value the game gives you. If it left a really good impression on me, or connected with me, then I'm surely gonna replay it, no matter how long it is and no matter if nothing actually changes on another playthrough. On the other hand you have games with a lot of replay value, but if I didn't really fall in love with them, then I'm just not gonna replay them.

I know the perfect formula for maximum replayability, the first is massive amounts of content + randomly generated content. There's a reason why Skyrim, to me, is so replayable and thats the random events that can happen within the game that make up for various different experiences. Elden Ring doesn't have this, as much as I love this game, the fun dwindles the more times I play it. I find the experience improving when I try doing different builds, then roleplaying, challenges, and then so on so forth. But at some point everything becomes sort of tedious to do. Project Zomboid is another example, the whole map itself is the same but its massive and the loot, cars, etc. is all randomly generated. Leading to various experiences and deaths a person can have. One person can die from a cold, the other swarmed while gunning down the very horde that swallowed him.

Valheim. I started playing it just over a year ago and I have gone through the last boss 5 times now (4 times with the queen and once with Fader). In each I’ve built a huge base with resources and ready to wait for each new update, but I love the biome/boss progression loop so much that I just keep on starting new saves. In a way it has ruined similar games for me (currently slogging my way through “Return to Moria” which without having played Valheim would’ve been an all-timer for me but now just seems “okay”.

I’ve replayed games like Red Dead 1, MGS3, God of war 2018, The last of us and Uncharted over 20 times each, but I’ve only beat games like Red Dead 2, The Witcher 3, or Elden Ring once.

Top 5 I've probably played the most, in no particular order would be Metal Gear Solid, Half-Life 2, Super Mario World, Skyrim, and Fallout 4. If it weren't for mods and settlement building, I honestly likely wouldn't have revisited Skyrim and Fallout 4 as much as I have. I tend to find most open world games kinda tedious and don't go back to them as often. I have a long list of linear games that I've revisited at least once annually since they released, though.

Hello Baldie. Urgh! KZbin is being very annoying right now. This video didn’t pop up on my feed. I had to manually input your channel name cuz I wanted to see if you had a new video up, and voila! You did!! 😁😁. Now, I’ve always said it and I would always say it but the Mass Effect trilogy is a game I replay over and over and over again. I replay it every year cuz I just need to be back on the Normandy. I also replay Andromeda when I’m done cuz I do enjoy Ryder as well. But my Shepherd would always have my heart (I also recreate the exact same shepherd in every single playthrough 😂😂). I also replay Inquisition every year as well. And now that Veilguard is out, and although I’m still in Act 1, I’m loving how it’s shaping out to be, and something tells me that I will be adding it to my roaster of games I play yearly 😂😂. I hope you’re enjoying Veilguard as well Baldie. Thanks for letting us know about the membership prices. It’s clear you put in a lot of thought to make sure that you’re giving so much of your time to us, at such an affordable rate. When will the membership go live though? I was hoping to see a link to it in the description box but I can’t see it. Or is it there and I’m missing it 😅. Please help! Hope you’re playing amazing video games and having a great time. Say hello to Mrs. Baldie for us 👋🏾👋🏾

Hey there. Fully agree on Mass Effect, and Veilguard is proving to be far too addictive 😂 Memberships are live on my channel page, you should see a join button near the top 😊 Edit: join link now in video description and on the community post

Mechanics/level design pull me in. Spyro/Ratchet. Ratchet 's NG+ with weapon level ups is fun. Spyro as well as Ratchet good to 100% every time, test my skills of the minigames which prepped me for other genres too. Gran Turismo the restrictions on events make for good challenges. Restrictions the player wants to make. The different paths you can take are enough choice but still offer good restrictions to follow the core of the game. I don't care about hour counts. If it's memorable for its details, set pieces, tasks, Moveset, I'm in. Most open worlds I find boring level up or errand simulators when spray painting in Infamous Second Son, tower defence or the playground world with bouncing on umbrellas or other stuff in Sunset Overdrive was more fun. Over Spiderman 2018 being outposts, generic getaway cars/other Spiderman open worlds or other games. Sure he plays good as Spiderman, but the puzzles in the lab I couldn't wait for they were so fun. The laser/ground pound move mission (only one that requires a skill tree relevance 1% of it). Task master challenges were hit and miss. Spyro flight or Ratchet momentum controls better then Spiderman for the ring one. Spiderman 2018 was just eh. Passable game. Fair story of the after events stuff but gameplay wide I was bored most times. Horizon same thing fair world, boring tasks, they fit the theme but weren't exciting. Last of US felt like a more drama boring with yes yes horror elements it is one but Uncharted 's puzzles were better and more enjoyable. Even Pitfall I go yep fair moves/items to use and the others from the Shaman shop are optional but useful for enemies. But the animations/use cases were fun but it's a metroidvania after Prime 1 so why not. I'd rather consider racing games from years ago with better modes and ideas then these days. Under the Skin is easily a game that with a port/remaster, is a good multiplayer game about aliens and human disguises with a good wind waker cell shaded like subtly to it. Easy streamer game but nope left behind on PS2 forever at this point come on Capcom. I could list so many platformers, racing games, shooters, otherwise I've researched and had more fun with and more inspiration from them modern games. Hours don't mean anything to me it's the content, replay different ways or the same way that made them good. Not 100s hours of filler that's boring and immediately detectable of RPG quests, generic things any character can do or some can but it's not thrilling to use it in such a way aka my Spiderman issue is it's not fun to use his abilities in 2018 as Sunset Overdrive was and I hated SO in 2015, I came around to it later myself over time on a retry. Mechanics, set pieces, progression being worth it, level design and modes/movesets or I guess physics and character feel matter Not just writing/graphics being so boring. I can enjoy a visual novel if it's funny, and fair writing but I can easily skip any story in other genres of the gameplay is boring tasks, boring locations no matter how holiday destination recreation it is. If I have more fun in Project Gotham Racing because of the physics, the layouts of the city tracks that's why. Kudos/cones. WRC3 on PS3/360 or MotoGP3 on PS2 had more fun modes of gates, cones, whatever or challenges on fictional tracks in a MotoGP game and annual racing licence game that they didn't really do otherwise besides the rally/dirt bikes in 16. That's the fun stuff right there. Not PLATFORMERs by Indies so modern and empty and basic or devoid of anything exciting, same with full racing games, shooters. Making the most of it not copy paste or too easy and unexciting. Personality is one thing, extra effort for little details is another in worlds, but how you play in it as well not just talking and walking all the time.

I rarely replay games. However, I do replay the first Jak and Daxter and first sly cooper every year or 2 Edit: I have a large collection so it’s hard to find time to go back to play bigger games when I always have something new to play

I’ll never play LOU or LOU 2 again no matter how many times they remaster it lol. Heavy games with linear stories that I only need to see/play though once. At the same time, they stick with you. I could replay them even 2 years from now and it would still feel like I just finished them. So I don’t think I ever will

I've replayed almost every Zelda game at least once (many times in some cases) but there's a chance that I'll never replay BotW or TotK. I played both of those games for at least 150 hours each (basically 100% besides Koroks) but as of now I see no appeal in starting them over.
