This is why I started playing the trumpet. Spike drew me into jazz with Mo' Betta Blues

Actually, it IS listed in the credits of MBB, but I'd never seen it before and I've seen that movie, start to finish, dozens upon dozens of times. I watched it again Saturday morning and finally it dawned on me to look up every song listed (though I know the soundtrack by heart). THAT is how I found this song!!! 23 years I've been searching. I was a kid when I first heard this song (while Denzel "played" it on the bridge). It has also been in other Spike films, vocal or instrumental versions.

I want this song in every version. It's not on any of spike joint soundtracks, but in most movies. Spike!!!, Terrance!!!, please bless us with it.

Even though "Sing Soweto" is listed in the MBB soundtrack it is not recorded. I recorded the song right off of the MBB DVD (Denzel on the bridge) and that rendition is with strings not voices like this KZbin version...still a sweet cut...

I loved that scene on the Brooklyn Bridge. That whole movie is a masterpiece and gives us an inside of how jazz cats get down with life period. One of my favorite movies

Douglas McCartney it's actually not listed as part of the soundtrack. It's used as a song in the score. Terence also used vocally intoned versions briefly in a couple other Spike Lee joints. If you're tuned in to the song, it smacks you with its beauty and mutability.
@hyphenlife5 жыл бұрын
Douglas McCartney there’s also a strings version of it in Jungle Fever. Been wanting to find that version for yeeeears

"I Went to See Terence Blanchard in concert last night,Manchester UK. I've waited 20 years to find the name of this track pPutting embarrsement aside, I had to hum the trumpet melody to Terence after the show. He looked at me with a twinkle in the eye & said "Sowetto Sings" I say this because I knew that despite 20 years had elapsed, I would eventually find this track from film "Mo Better Blues" but was not listed in credits. I knew when i did it would sum up the way I feel when I met my SM

I cry myself to sleep to this cut. I miss her so much. But I'm working on me now. In Zulu they say "zithande", which means love yourself. Fill your cup first fam. I still love her, but from here now. It will work out in the end. It always does.
