I haven't heard this one (and I've been listening to & reading McKenna for 25 years). I saw the title while I was scrolling a few weeks ago - didn't even click on it and save - and it nagged at me. So tonight I just searched "cult of permanence" and it's brilliant 😊 Is Terence McKenna just me in a parallel universe where I am smarter and less anxious or something? 😅 I love this guy!

Terence had a process, maybe you can find the talk online about the use of mushrooms. He says 5 grams but 3.5 was enough for me. Fun, clean ambiance to start the trip like good music. Silent darkness when things get heavy. Ask the mushroom what is the plan, and what's its name. Ask the questions you want and see the truth. Make sure you have plenty of "bombers" rolled and ready to go! (Bombers being slang for joints)

Seems like the word from the "other side" is that humanity can and are being invited to evolve our abilities and mastery with telepathic communication, with art, with sharing emotion, with sharing energetic communicative exchange... With embracing our ability to evolve. Rather than wage war and confrontational defensive tactics with all that is alien or invokes our own xenophobia, but to instead we are being invited and asked to aspire and make efforts toward learning/playing/practicing how to communicate with all the ways and beings that the "other" manifests itself in our experiences.

@@gratefulkm that's deep man. Wonder where the story is heading now for humanity. Though one of my most favorite philosophers and humans I admire beyond others, I think I must partially disagree with Terence's philosophy of a need for "dematerializing" humanity's ecological role/behaviors and instead I think we should seek to re-establish the Sacredness of the material world and as I would assume his philosophy of and call for an "Archaic Revival", was an intention to embrace our primal earthly nature and honor our sacred relationship with both our spiritual consciousness, our creativity and our material bodies, existence and legacy. I think if Terence were still alive today he would be appalled at the nightmarish future trajectory technology and transhumanism is taking humanity. When I had the chance in the late nineties to ask Terence about his impression and ideas of permaculture I'm afraid I received a somewhat vague and disinterested response. I wish I could have explored this further with him and understood his position with greater clarity. I can't help but wonder if in the creation of the ideas of this talk he was aware of or had considered the relationship of the permaculture movement to this theme of western civilization and possibly all of humanity seeking "permeance".

@matthew mattes You, you Matthew Mattes, are literally the Earth. You, nor I, nor anyone can separate ourselves from that which we are and always forevermore will be. If one could separate (hypothetically) then they would no longer be human. For me my definition of human includes our entire evolution as Earthlings.
@kaylesharp79142 жыл бұрын
Bruh but this is the transcendental aspect of it. How well can you hold your reality together while being de materialized, in other words can you exist in a plane of matter equal to no matter at all, how will you deal then seems like the forward escape to me
@kaylesharp79142 жыл бұрын
@matthew mattes there you go, that first part hit home. We're more than humans bro read my last one
@bryanmilne2 жыл бұрын
@matthew mattes I think we are sort of talking about different things. I understand the idea of our consciousness transcending the "earthly" and at the same time I think such a thing is beyond our capability to even imagine (as Terence has said with much repetition). As far as permeance of the Earth it seems that it goes without saying that such is an impossibility, as is the permeance of anything on the material world. What seems more important for our immediate crisis as a species is to determine how to establish any type of resilient stability which lends itself to "permeance" for humanity specifically. For me that means establishing Earth regenerative/deep ecology cultural practice that is both dynamic and creates a state of equilibrium for human habitation on planet Earth (material world and spiritual/astral, etc...). I feel that the transhumanist fantasies to create immortality through reducing ourselves to just code in a machine is really the wrong direction from my perspective for the type of "permeance" I wish for myself, my family, my loved ones and my species. The problem with the transhumanist fantasy is it is a distraction from saving ourselves and challenging the demonic psychopaths and sorcery at play in our world currently seeking quite literally and all too happily to "dematerialize" all of us with a "Great Reset" and stripping away our connection to the sacred. I view the Earth and the material as entirely and wholeheartedly Sacred. I think it is a grave mistake to equate a polarized dualist worldview which splits spiritual and material into two different categories with any kind of illusion that they are separate.
