Man I never knew Terrence spoke on Jung so much… reading Jung myself looking for an explanation to the psychedelic experience I started to gain an understanding what psychedelics really were. What makes Jung so amazing is how he describes a lot of the psychedelic experiences without ever doing any and worked strictly off the human psyche and not worried about (“unnatural altered states”) the understanding of the archetypes explains a huge chunk of the psychedelic experience.

The mind is an organ outside of the body. This is how I feel about the sun itself! It produces energy for us, yet it is not contained within the skin. Some might also consider the mitochondria as an organ of our own, yet it is like an independent organism with its own DNA. The boundaries of our bodies are not clearly defined. Cells can be shed, fingernails and hair clipped, organs replaced, muscles grow and shrink, facial features change, and there is so much grey area that one can lose their sense of self in this line of thinking! The boundaries of one self and another overlap and intertwine. Your heart beats in a way so that you can benefit the society (me), so in a sense, your organs are also my organs!

mind and body are not separate, all duality is false duality. self/ other, subject/ object, consciousness/ matter, all is one. consciousness is an intrinsic quality (perhaps *the* intrinsic quality) of all matter, and our experience of consciousness arises naturally out of any sufficiently advanced system. all things are nondual, and the mind is just a fractal representation of the most complex system of all's consciousness: the universe. "as above, so below". in the words of McKenna himself, "Nature is self-similar across scale". by breaking down the boundary between self and other (the "ego"), we can perceive the wider system, and realise we are part of a larger consciousness. this is what psychedelics eventually do, and is what is described as the "mystical experience" across all cultures and peoples using various words and images.

I really think psychedelic people should look at traditional Buddhist teachings (therevada) with a more open mind. The Buddha describes this non duality perfectly, and even distinguishes mind meditation (in which one analyzes mental objects that arise) from body meditation (in which one analyzes the feelings of the body as they arise)
@Firecelebi
@Firecelebi 4 жыл бұрын
I take acid every now and then and meditate obsessively, the two things have taught me a lot. I think both are complementary and whatever you learn from one can teach a lot about the other, if that makes sense. Theravada is fairly uptight about the use of drugs, of course, and a traditional view would be that they're distractions and in the end only lead to suffering, and I think psychedelic people can often feel turned away by this viewpoint; even if there are a lot of open minded people in communities around meditation and Buddhism, there are a lot of people around who hold the had traditionalist views and it can feel like you have to be ready to renounce all your worldly things and ordain, sometimes. I did have one trip where the "realization" I ended up having was that I needed to get serious about meditation and find a good guide for this crazy new dimension that had opened up during the day, I ended up getting into a blend of Yoga and self-inquiry instead of Buddhism. But psyches can definitely open you up to the fact that there's a lot more to spiritual disciplines than what meets the eye.

Thank you so much for sharing these McKenna talks. He was a very fascinating and unique thinker and a captivating speaker. Psychedelics have so much to offer. They really are a whole new frontier for us to explore and learn from. We may be born too late to explore the earth and too early to explore space, but we 21st century humans are born just in time to explore the infinite halls and dimensions of our own mind.

For sure! And if you ever try to prove the existence of things beyond that veil to a typical human who’s not ready, the things so effortlessly vanish, almost automatically. These interdimensional phenomena are real, but can never be measured with our current scientific instruments, and can not be proven to someone who’s not willing to walk through the door and see for themselves.

I thought he is trying to get people interested in the subject but at the same time he always tries to entertain with all these metaphors and sentence stretching. Can anyone link me to a video where he tries to be as concrete and concise as possible? Would reaaaaally fucking appreciate it.

yes , they SHOULD change through time ; only RELIGION HOLS THEM BACK IN THE SAME PLACE IN TIME religion is the cause of all the so called ''evil'' and the progress HALT of the human population we can't move ''forward'' unless religion is DEMOLISHED to the core , so people can heal and move on to that other dimensions of thinking there is no progression when religion keeps people's minds in this child like state , which is about 75% of the total population as long people are IN a religion , they aren't REAL people , not even close

are u suggesting that in the ordinary sphere of reality which most inhabit in their day to day lives "evil" or lets say "less desireable action" does not exist? everything is fucking dandy? stop spewing shit u dont understand. psychedelics are a tool to understand and make the cruise thru this duality riddled existence a bit easier. nothing wrong with "religion" or "worship" if used properly - it should be used as a TOOL, a COMPASS u might say, or just a higher state of perfection - call it a shit on a stick or any other god/idol of your choice - its beneficial for most. u are here because religion existed in the past and still exists now, literally.
