Daniel Winkler and Sayoc Kali master Rafael Kayanan designed what is likely the MOST POPULAR T-hawk of the 21st century.
This thing can breach doors, trees, and skulls…

Great video! I narrate Jack’s books. I just received my very own Winkler hawk and it is awesome indeed. Congratulations on completion of service and thanks for fighting fires. You’re right about dopamine with this too! I felt it as well. There is something special about a truly well made thing.

I acknowledge that there’s a good chance this is just a troll account someone made to fill some weird void in their life… if so, you probably need to seek professional help. If not, thanks a bunch for your comment. I’ve listened to the books multiple times over and I certainly familiar with your incredible work voicing so many different characters and accents.

One day I hope to have to honor of training in it myself. Hard to find schools of weaponry that are truly practical and pressure tested like Sayoc 👊

I picked a compact RND hawk from winkler knives actual, it’s great for branch clearing but the front spike does limit wood splitting. I agree though, it’s a tool that is intended for combat first. But at the end of the day it’s still an axe and works like one, the front spike is a great self defense confidence builder because that spikes going to dig into whatever you’re hitting. For splitting I tend to baton with a knife. If you get a chance to go to winkler knives actual you get a nice military discount. Still spendy though, but not $800 spendy.

Great Vid! I come from a blade culture and value every type of blade. I am a veteran and a practitioner of Kali and Silat . I recently acquired my RnD Sayoc tomahawk. It was ordered last Aug and received it in February of this year. I love the attention to detail and integrates nicely with modern gear. I did have to reprofile the edge to my standards, but love it so much that I will order another one soon. I have my own fighting tomahawk design that I call the Multo V1 (translates to “Ghost” in my native language). It was designed to compliment my martial skills. Balance point is different from the RnD Sayoc. My way of thinking is that bang bang stuff is cool until one runs out of ammo. Always having a back up/contingency plan is golden.

I've always been fascinated by the idea of a "Vietnam Tomahawk". They're neat as heck, but living in Southwest Texas, I've never used an axe or a hatchet in my life.

Nice video-subscribed! I’ve handled a Winkler RnD and machining/finish is excellent. I wish I had the opportunity to test it on a flesh-and-bone-like target-concerned chopping blade might be prone to “hang up” on extraction-only testing will tell. Full disclosure-I make modern spike tomahawks streamlined for comfortable everyday carry and combatives. I was mentored by Jack Vargo (RIP), who wrote the book on spike tomahawks. I like the design aesthetics of the RnD, but the rear spike is too tiny. When you throw in the “hump” on the back of the handle, the spike’s effective length shrinks even more. A longer spike opens up a lot more options in combatives, as well as utility applications. Also the weight is north of 20 ounces. To me, it felt pretty sluggish in the hand. It only feels “lively” next to other similarly overweight tomahawks. Most historic spike tomahawks weighed 8-10 ounces, head and handle-blindingly fast and very nimble. Lighter than a Kabar knife. Also the carry system is set up for either chest rig or outside the waistband. That’s common for most tomahawks on the market, but has issues. I have had customers who carried similar full tang tomahawks in these “open carry” set ups, having problems with the protruding handle catching on things. One Canadian customer was wearing his on the torso, slipped in the snow and fell down a hill and his body weight drove the handle hard against his chest-the pain was so great he thought he’d fractured a rib. Tomahawk carry is safer is the axe is streamlined to the body-think handle tucked inside the waistband, or axe head under armpit, handle dangling under arm and under a covering garment. But underarm carry is dangerous with the one-piece “pull down” sheaths-way before I designed my own tomahawks, I tried carrying an American Tomahawk company VTAC in a custom shoulder rig. It worked most of the time, but once I raked the chopping blade thru my love handle-thankfully the back hair covers the scars. A two piece carry system is a lot safer for underarm carry. Hard to explain in comments, but we did a video showing how it works. I suspect an after market carry system could be made for the Winkler that may resolve issues with the current set up. Best regards, - Zac with Wingard Wearables Co

@@HardOnGearChannel They are when you consider you get a sheath easily worth $100 with the knives. I do love it, but still find the handle a tad thin for regular work and it's not my perfect blade shape for skinning. The point is very sharp and can poke the hide if not careful (for those of us who brain tan hides and care about not poking holes in it). Nice belly, but not Nessmuk level nice. It's an excellent all around camp/survival knife though (I'm personally anti-scandi grind).

Winkler Hunter LT is small and cool, but lacks the weight to really chop, in my opinion. The BR Hunter is a good knife for folks with smaller hands. The belt knife has a perfect size for those with average size hands.

Would have liked to see the "kangee" in the mix there.. Best competition for the $1k hawk is the RMJ TALON. Or Shrike.

I do like it, but I'd never buy it. I collect hand forged hawks from various eras in history. I don't mind paying $150-200 for a decorative piece even though they're all functional if I chose to use it. But when I buy a Winkler, it's a model that will get actively used. If I ever end up in a weird situation where I have to use one of my hawks for self defense, any of the other Winkler styles will be just as effective while being more practical to use at camp, hiking, etc. The Hogue is laughably overpriced for what it is. I'd take one of my hand forged over that Hogue or any other main stream produced hawk any time.
