Haptics on this were way ahead of its time. Played this endlessly along with Addams Family Pinball at a Peter Piper Pizza in Phoenix, AZ summer 1992 after 7 straight little league district tournament victories. I think the fact the game itself refers to itself as an "attraction" is telling - it's less of a game and more of an interactive experience, one that's going to force you to pump in money every so often if you want to see the end, regardless of how good the player actually is. As a spectacle, this really would have been quite the thing to see in an arcade, complete with all the licensed artwork, sounds and material recorded for the game by the actual actors (which itself wouldn't have been cheap to do).
@evanhanley64373 жыл бұрын
@@AL82RetrogamingLongplays Yeah, it was to pump up fans to go see the movie. Seeing the actual arcade cabinet in the movie was a nice little touch. It turns out Sarah Connor and John Connor actually use lookalike stunt doubles from the films crew. Sarah is played by Linda Hamilton's sister.

The goal was to use the Player 2 right/red gun. As enemies would approach from the right of the screen, by the time they turn to shoot, they’re already hitting the left/blue Player 1 screen; thus NOT damaging the Player 2. This in addition to enemies walking on screen from the left are moving slower as they attempt to keep up with the moving screen. Finally, any enemies on the left side of the screen you’d literally leave alone, even if they were shooting. They wouldn’t be damaging you.

I played this game at an arcade called the Goldmine at the Pacific view mall in Ventura, California at 4 PM every day after getting a slice of pizza from Saboro’s for $1.25 a slice. I spent hours on terminator to arcade and then I would go to the ticket machines because they had one of the first Timex Indie glow sport watches for 6000 tickets! I saved up 6000 tickets and I went to the Goldmine after school one day and it was gone, My mission completely over and failed, I looked to the left of me and there was a little kid with five tickets, and I handed him a bag. He passed out and his parents were like “ Oh my God, are you sure?” I said yes, I hope he gets a bunch of things that he wants. The parents were still in shock, and the kid was freaking out lol. That’s a memory that will always stay as a part of my childhood. I miss arcades so much, at 41 years old, I would still go to an arcade hall if I could.

Remember that this game inspired many Raw Thrills and Play Mechanix shooters where health bars doesn’t give you temporary invincibility time, sheer amount of enemies, and insane bosses to the point of making health bars a time limit, meaning that if you damage after short seconds, you take less damage but if you play longer, you instantly die. Terminator Salvation is one of the examples of this as both T2 and Salvation were produced by George Petro.

I totally agree everyones comment about the absurd difficulty of the game. Particularly for single player. But lets not forget the quality of the game it was made then compared to now. Should still appreciate the quality of it and how it turned out during that time. Yes quarters then meant a lot back then. Overall the game was still fun for its particular genre. Especially with using the physical gun while blasting away at the enemies. This game, Time Crisis, and the Tokyo Tank Wars were the all time favourites back then.

All in all, this game still kicks ass to this very day; my only wish is if someone could have programmed an arcade shooter like this, but being based on the first TERMINATOR movie where you play the role of Kyle Reese protecting Sarah and fighting Skynet's forces in the future; or even better an arcade shooter based on EVIL DEAD II, or ARMY OF DARKNESS; playing the role of Ash fighting off legions of deadites, and finally facing off against Evil Ash; now that would kick soooooooooooo many levels ass.

Hey AL82, Cool that you managed to find the information on who programmed this game. I agree with you that this is not a good game because of the damn difficulty, especially for a single player in order to squeeze out as much money out of their pockets. But at the time this was probably the best Terminator 2 tie in game. Quite frankly the home computer games by Ocean were quit simply terrible, the awful Amiga/PC game comes to mind with its collection of mini games. In comparison the NES, gameboy, and SNES games were somewhat better, I say somewhat, with the Gameboy game probably being the best, followed by the NES game, and finishing last the SNES game. The Game Gear got a port of the NES game, while the Sega 16-bit got a copy of the crappy SNES game. Such a damn waste of the license. It would take years until there was a somewhat decent Terminator game; Terminator Future Shock and Terminator Skynet, though I think they aged badly. It would then take another long time until we finally got some better games based on the Terminator IP. I myself rather liked Terminator Dawn of Fate. Then followed Terminator 3 tie in. The much better Terminator 3 The Redemption. that Terminator Salvation game for PC/Xbox/PS3, with the mobiles getting their own versions. A shitload of mobile games. And finally the pretty decent to good Terminator Resistance which is probably the best use of the IP in a long time. Before that of course we did have games based on the first Terminator movie. The ones I know best are The Terminator DOS, Terminator for the Sega machines by Virgin while the NES and SNES received its own Terminator games by Mindscape (Sunsoft's Journey To Silius was suppose to be a Terminator game but Sunsoft for some reason could not use the IP name. It would have been a much better Terminator game than the actually NES Terminator game). The best game based on The Terminator movie was the SEGA CD game. There are of course also Terminator 2029/Operation Scourge, and Terminator Rampage, but other than perhaps interesting from a PC gaming history point of view they are not worth playing.
