7:04 Fun fact, Robert Patrick was *super* into his role for this movie and did a ton of training away from the rest of the cast on his own time. The first time the scene with the motorcycle was shot, *he actually caught up to Furlong on the motorcycle.*

Much of the weirdness of how the two terminators act and are framed is that it's supposed to be a *surprise reveal* that Schwarzenegger's T-800 is the good guy and Robert Patrick is the bad guy T-1000. Watch it with this is mind, and one will realize it's kept ambiguous at first, Arnie behaving superficially like the previous unstoppable T-800 while Patrick is personable and doesn't display machine-vison or other Terminator-like traits (also, his naked ambush of the cop is framed to make it look like he gut-punched him, rather than stabbed him). So, when all three finally meet up behind the arcade, the audience is supposed to expect Arnie is there to kill John and Patrick's character is there to protect him, then the face-heel/heel-face turn will dazzle all. Unfortunately, this was all massively, utterly spoiled in the promotion for the film, including the trailer. Every press release and news snippet shouted that Arnie was the good guy now, and the gushing over the cutting-edge CGI couldn't stop showing off Patrick's enhanced performance. Maybe they decided it was too good a twist to hide in the theater, or they realized they needed to stress how the film was different from the original to sell it. Whatever, many people probably watched T2 without even realizing there was a twist in it.

@@robogreek3157 and they all take place in the same fictional cinematic universe. Don't believe me? In Commando, the villain who kidnapped Arnold's daughter was from the fictional Central American country of Val Verda. In Die Hard one of the demands Hanz made to the police was for a political prisoner in Val Verda be released. In Die Hard 2 the cartel leader that was being transported to the US was from Val Verda. And in Predator, the country that Arnold's team was sent to was Val Verda. In addition to all of this, Bill Paxton played the navy radar operator in Commando. He later played Jerry in Predator 2. And then he played Hudson in Aliens. So, wild film theory here. John Matrix in Commando and Dutch in Predator are the same guy. After the events of Commando, Dutch started a new team. But rather than doing Search & Destroy missions, they're strictly a rescue unit. Meanwhile Jerry actually was the navy radar operator in Commando. After his time in the navy was over he joined the LAPD and became a detective in narcotics. After Danny was killed in Predator 2, he and Leona had a one night stand, finding solace in each other's company. Leona got pregnant, which is why the Predator didn't kill her, and the xenomorphs skull in the Predators ship links those two franchises together in the same universe. Leona's baby is Jerry's, and centuries later Hudson is Jerry's descendant.

I often go back and forth between this one and the first one. Like you, I love the horror tone of the first one but the action is phenomenal here. Both are brilliantly executed though so I can't fault anyone for preferring one over the other. However, I often see people propping one up while trashing the other which is pretty annoying. Both are great, no need to put the other down.

Among other great memories (we had some cheap wine and smoking was allowed in this older theatre), I recall how impressive and LOUD it was when the initial exoskeleton CRUNCHES down on the skull. 98% of the audience lurched in their seats and barked out expletives, us included. 0:59 Well, according to Camereon's script... Yes it was still destroyed, but the twist was that right after sending Reese, the resistance discovers that an additional Terminator was sent to another period in time, and John then opens a vault revealing dozens of T-800 M-101 Terminators. That was all cut from the future war sequence at the opening of the film, never shot to save money basically.

3:03 t-101 is Arnie's model. We do see another fleshie terminator in the first film. They must be mass produced to fit certain slightly different endoskeletal frames. Plus, the battlefield is a big place, it's entirely possible you could send out four or five Arnie variants and the resistance would be none-the-wiser. The T-1000 apparently generates a bio-electric field, hence how it can go back in time. Though it does again raise the question as to why they don't just stick a plasma rifle inside of it.

3:02 James Cameron mentions that it's 10-gauge in the commentary to T2: Special Edition. 3:29 We're just meant to assume that the T-1000 can mimic the vibe of organic life. 4:14 He doesn't even seem to remember Reese at all. 15:50 Someone else would have followed his research. Judgment Day is inevitable. 15:59 When you hand a knife to someone, you hand it to them by the grip. Also, it's entirely unnecessary for the Terminator to rip the skin off his arm. It's only done to make the audience feel what Dyson feels because of the arm, but it does so at the expense of tactical sense. 16:29 Let's see how much Masonic iconography is in this scene. Well, we've got the chessboard motif (known as "Masonic pavement"). Some figures that look like owls (that's more of an Illuminati thing rather than Masonic). Then there's some sort of animal that looks like stuff we see in Egyptian art (a lot of this iconography comes from the Near East). And then... 16:35 ...there's the pyramid shape complete with a sectioned-off capstone. Yeah, it's the chair. Why would they put a folding picnic hair in the hallway? It's only there for the shape because symbolism. Oh, and there's also a staircase, another Masonic symbol. Also notice the Masonic lamp with the archway and the twin pillars (known as Jachin and Boaz). 16:55 James Cameron mentions that in the commentary. 17:16 Pretty sure he's got those 40-mils facing the wrong way. Terminators are ambidextrous, but Arnie is right-handed, and he wields his weapons right-handed in this scene (though he trained to use a variety of them ambidextrously), so it's correct to wear that bandoleer over his left shoulder. Still, those 40-mils should be facing down and out, not up and in. Right? I might be wrong about that. I'm attempting to corroborate as many sources as possible. 18:03 Those SWAT guys are played by real SWAT guys and at least one of them shoots left-handed. I point that out because I shoot left-handed due to eye dominance.

One thing you got wrong is the 40mm grenades fired from the M79 and M203 grenade launchers have an impact fuse that arms almost instantly(maybe over the distance of about a meter) and they have a minimum safe firing range of about 9 meters. The reason in the call of duty games 40mm grenades need about 4 meters to arm is because of balancing issues to prevent one player from killing multiple players on the opposite team by using a point blank shot.

17:40 how can you have a 0.0 casualty reading? Can you kill 20% of a person? Either they’re dead, or they’re injured, but are going to survive. Either way, the casualty number would be represented by a whole, making the “.” superfluous

17:04 Decker I actually have to tell you that 40mm grenades actually do have an arming distance however unlike in call of duty it's arming sequence is actually based of the number of spins the projectile does after it leaves the rifled barrel and not based of distance so you actually did get it right but it's based of the spins the grenade does when fired as opposed to outright distance

great video! but the time machine WAS destroyed after Kyle and the first T-800 were sent back to 1984, it was just that John realised from his childhood that after the first T-800 was sent back that Skynet sent a T-1000 back to 1995 aswell, which John counters by sending this T-800 back (it was originally supposed to be in the Future War scene, you can look up the script for it) - but it still doesn’t explain how any other terminators were sent back afterwards (the T-X, the T-850, etc)

Completely overlooked in this review is the irreconcilable continuity issue regarding John's age. T1 was set in what, 1984? T2 was set in "present day" 1991. That would have made John 6 or 7 years old. He was very obviously a teenager in T2.

If I remember correctly: In the comic book adaptation they did for this movie, which was based on the original pre-filming script, the T-1000 was sent back inside a pile of still living discarded terminator skin. They didn't bother to film this, probably because it would bump up the film's rating. Plus I think that they explained that Skynet built several time machines and the resistance had to attack several sites at once. I believe they added the "No-Killing rule" to the movie, so the studio could re-cut it for a lower rating. I have seen a A 15 (R) version and an uncut 18 (NC-17) version, which I have no idea why it was rated higher as there was no real difference in the cuts to the action scenes or content (apart from the extended scenes). It wouldn't surprise me if there was a "Studio Mandated" PG-13 cut to this movie that was shown to test audiences and was absolutely hated by them.

According to director James Cameron, Linda Hamilton suffered permanent hearing loss in one ear during the elevator shootout because she did not replace her ear plugs after removing them between takes. This is the only "Terminator" film to win or be nominated for an Oscar. It won four out of the six it was nominated for. Despite the film's R-rating, numerous children's toys were released and were a financial success. The Terminators seen at the beginning of the movie were fully workable animatronic models.

As an adult, that moment where Sarah Connor starts to pull the trigger on her Detonics custom 1911 and it goes back so far without going off is strange. Sure, you could customize a 1911 to have a squishy trigger instead of the customary hair trigger, but why? I guess because it looks cool on camera.

I was 15 when I saw T1 at a theater in 1984 as part of a $0.99 double feature with some shitty Chuck Norris movie. The Terminator was awesome, and to this day it’s the only movie I’ve seen were the audience jumped out of their seats and screamed “YEAH!” at the end ( the hydraulic press part) and applauded as the credits rolled. T1 is superior to T2 as far as tone, imho. People who think T2 is better are like people who think NCIS is superior to Breaking Bad, there’s millions of them but; they’re all wrong. A reviewer who agrees T1 is better = subscribed

Ideas on how the T-1000 can go from a liquid to a solid, back and forth, etc (from a guy who is not a scientist, but who came extremely close to flunking out of an Engineering Major, so prepare for really impossible theories). 1. Maybe the T-1000 is made of some sort of liquid metallic element mixed with molecular-sized nanotechnology (Mercury or Gallium mixed with Nanotech) that is capable of making the element harden just enough to mimic the human form, or to create edged weapons, with perhaps a "cluster" of nanomachines that make up the "brain" which holds all the mission info. Maybe each bond within the molecular structure is a sphere, and every sphere connects to each other with magnetism, and by use of said magnetism, it is able to move around and change its shape at will. 2. Perhaps the liquid metal is, in fact, a futuristic form of living metal that is capable of changing its form. Even now, we have "Modumetal" which is actually "Grown" in laboratories using a special form of chemical process (I'm not well-informed on the specifics, and the "recipe" seems to be a heavily guarded secret). So perhaps in the Terminator future, it's actually possible to merge biology and metal to create a truly alive yet still fully robotic killing machine. Anyway, that's just off the top of my head.

The Terminator is possibly the greatest "B-movie" ever made. By that i mean, it is the greatest low-budget sci-fi ever produced. The Terminator is a great inspiration for future filmmakers. Cameron showed us what can be possible on a small budget and its freaking amazing. T2 on the other hand is the greatest action movie ever made. Cameron showed us whats possible once youve established yourself in the industry. And its freaking phenomenal. I just wish we could get a new 5.1 remix for The Terminator. The .45 longslide should sound like a freaking cannon. The audience should be just as shocked and stunned by that weapon as Sarah Connors neighbors after the Terminator blew her head off. Theres an interesting deleted scene revealing the aftermath where Sarah Connors neighbors are running around in complete panic mode. But the newest 5.1 remix makes all of these bad**s weapons sound like squeaky toys, including the shotguns. You cant feel anything from a sound effect like that.
