Savage is a good for it. Rough-hewn and massive. I want to like latter-day Anathema, and theoretically I *could*, but there's too much straight-up cringe, at least on the stuff I've checked. It's like they're trying to be a "modern rock band" rather than just doing atmo-goth-folk stuff, which they'd excel at. Is there a good record?? - TBMG

Thanks man, that's high praise. We're both self-taught musicians w/ a tenuous grasp on theory, to put it kindly, but we have kind of a rough working language for talking about this stuff, that seems to help bridge the gap btw people much better at guitar than us, and people who don't play guitar. We're also into other kinds of art, and philosophical writing about how art "works," so we try to bring that to bear w/o being too autistic about it (in that, we fail). Glad you're sticking around. If you've ever got questions, just leave a comment. Cheers! ⚡🍻⚡ - TBMG

Also, Children of Bodom share the same room in my cerebral cortex as Argho. and the Incorrigible Bigotry instrumental was the song that got me into Arghoslent funny enough, loved when jiub mentioned that at 1:30:30 Ps. The Morbid Angel connection makes sense because i remember seeing a photo of Arghoslent's band members where one of the guys had a morbid angel shirt which makes this somehow go full circle. I want to know what an Atreus is
@radiofreeinnsmouth13376 ай бұрын
So, the House of Atreus is a cursed Hellenic noble family back from mythological times. Their progenitor was Tantalus, who we get the modern word "tantalize" from. He tried to trick the gods by dismembering his son Pelops and serving the parts to the gods at a banquet. The gods figured it out and didn't eat any of it except for Demeter, the goddess of agriculture, who was distracted because her daughter Persephone was abducted for half the year by Hades, the god of the underworld (this is why there's seasons of summer and winter, as an aside). Zeus was not happy and threw Tantalus into the underworld, where he's chained to a rock in a pool underneath a fruit tree. Every time he's thirsty, he tries to drink from the pool, but the waters recede away from him. Every time he's hungry, he tries to get a fruit from the tree, but the wind blows the branches out of reach. The curse placed on Tantalus also continued down through the family tree through the resurrected Pelops and his son Atreus. There's a decent amount of murder, cannibalism, incest, and bad fortune following them around, which eventually gets Atreus banished to Mycenae. His descendant Agamemnon became the kind of Mycenae and the most powerful monarch amongst the Greeks during the Trojan War, but in order to set sail for Troy, he sacrificed his daughter Iphigenia to the goddess of the hunt, Artemis, because he had previously killed a deer in one of Artemis' sacred groves. To do this, he tricked his daughter into thinking she was marrying Achilles, the most powerful warrior amongst the Greeks. When he got back from the Trojan war, Agamemnon's wife Clytemnestra and her secret lover Aegisthus killed Agamemnon in revenge for Iphigenia's death. Agamemnon's son Orestes and daughter Electra then killed Clytemnestra and Aegisthus on the orders of the god Apollo, thus ending the curse of the House of Atreus. That last part is told in a lot more detail in the Oresteia, a trilogy of plays written by the famous Greek tragedian Aeschylus, who was a big influence on House of Atreus (the band) and is specifically set to music in their song "Oresteia: The Unforgotten Scorns" on their debut album.
@shannonm.townsend12326 ай бұрын
@@radiofreeinnsmouth1337 Jub thank you, that was as deliriously convoluted a backstory as I could have hoped for. The good old days of sordid human and gods drama. I have that book of Aeschylus' plays, but obviously never read it. My esteem of House of Atreus is higher now; one aspect of extreme metal I much admire is when this febrile material is adroitly embedded into the music.

is there a video where you guys lay out/introduce your outlaw rock / solar bm idea? like its referred to a lot and i'm starting to get a sense for what you're saying but it would be nice to hear a formal presentation w/ examples
@TerminusExtremeMetalPodcast5 ай бұрын
Well shit it's pretty cool that you'd even want us to do a formal presentation, but yeah, we've basically done that on certain past episodes. We pretty much lay out the "outlaw rock" concept on Episode 26, w/ the Ifernach/PANF review, though I don't think we'd coined the name yet. Other key points include the early review / interview w/ Oldowan Gash, and Ep 58, where we review the Maquahuitl EP. As for solar metal, this is a broader classification that includes or overlaps w/ outlaw rock, but really starts with Spite Extreme Wing. So if you want a background on that, listen to the SEW special episode, or early reviews of bands like oriflamme, laetitia in holocaust, solitvdo, etc. It's worth noting that tdmg and I don't think of these terms in quite the same way. Although I came up w/ the "outlaw rock" label, it was an aesthetic/idea that tdmg had been exploring for years in his own music projects, in conversations w/ me, etc., and he's generally more excited about it than I am - in part because he has a more optimistic view of America, rock music, emo, etc. Ofc, I am stoked about many bands that fit this description, and about the clear signs of a new sound emerging, even if I remain more invested in its European roots. - TBMG ⚔
