Back after finally listening to the episode. Killer album by Viscera Infest, and I can’t believe I haven’t picked up a physical copy yet. I didn’t pick up on the thrash influence at first, but I can sort of see it now. When I got to see those guys at Netherlands Deathfest 2018, it was an absolute blast. Yes, we all did the 🪳🪳mosh lol. They were super nice to talk to also, the little we were able to communicate. I didn’t wanna talk their ears off too much because we were all very interested in watching Naglfar, who was playing the same stage right after them. Cheers fellas, great episode 😎🤘🤘🤘

#1 hard rock album of 2024

Viscera infest is great. Also I’ve seen like 4 Japanese grind bands where the drummer is in their underwear/nude and I love the “I gotta get all this shit off me” mentality.

Also did you guys like the new FesterDecay or is that too straight forward Carcass? I’ve always liked the Japanese scenes approach to goregrind highlighting the morose “inevitable” feeling.

The song you are referring to by Candlemass is Samarithan

YES thanks for being such a good Samarithan 🙏

@@TerminusExtremeMetalPodcast funny how a song from one of the gospels can be so haunting.
@TerminusExtremeMetalPodcastАй бұрын
@@hessianfirm wait are they literally just reading from the King James Bible or something? i assumed it was kind of an adaptation / embellishment. but i guess that would explain why the language is so authentic.
@hessianfirmАй бұрын
@@TerminusExtremeMetalPodcast it's an embellishment with more of a focus on the angels but it's very close to the original.
@TerminusExtremeMetalPodcastАй бұрын
@@hessianfirm Candlemass does such a good job of "setting" the text, in the way that a Medieval or Renaissance composer would have. They place it in a very somber context - poverty and mortality in Medieval Europe, dread of divine manifestation - that I could never have extrapolated from the text alone. You can tell that, despite the ancient Middle Eastern names, it's basically set in Sweden, in the same way everyone painted Bible scenes as happening in Amsterdam or rural France or wherever they lived.

Thank God you guys do what you do. Seriously. Also, I just listened to the Sear Bliss episode and it reminded me that in classical music the trombone is known as The Voice of God.

Thanks a lot man. Also, whoa! Don't think I've ever heard that re. the trombone. It's such a funny instrument, but in the right hands, powerful. - TBMG 📯

2:43 - Oh, I have to know what bands were playing. And yes, I swear to god there's so much hardcore dancing among the younger crowd and it rarely ever seems to fit the music. I blame the proliferation of Hate5six - love their well-shot live footage of cool bands, but it feels like that clip of At The Drive-In at Big Day Out where Cedric's yelling at the slamdancers "you didn't learn that from your best friend, you learned that from the TV!" but they're the TV in this case.

The Trelldom album should have been released under Gaahls Wyrd moniker.
@TerminusExtremeMetalPodcastАй бұрын
Yeah, it has the same kind of "barely there" quality as the last Gaahls Wyrd. i feel like these days Gaahl gets most of his validation from the "art scene," w/ like gallery openings and wine and shit, and that has really distorted his sense of what he's trying to do w/ metal. - TBMG
