In this video I break down the differences and advantages of termite bait stations and liquid termite treatments.
ALL the EXACT products I use for 🪳pest control, 🎥 content creation, and 🕺personal.

Thank you guys for watching! Please subscribe to my channel. I post about all kinds of pest control and bug content!
Here's an overview of this video. Basically, termite bait stations and liquid chemical treatments both work! They are more similar than they are different. Bait stations store the termite poison in stations around the perimeter of a structure while liquid treatments treat the soil directly.
Bait stations are a quicker solution for installation, they don't use as much chemical, and they are newer technology. Liquid treatments are a long term solution, use more chemical, and are traditional treatments.
I highly recommend getting your home treated for termites! Termites cause billions of dollars worth of damage each year. You need to know what termites are and how to identify them if you own a home that is built out of wood.

Thanks for watching, comment and let me know what treatment you used for your home

The Sentricon stations are always active. The "bait" is very durable cellulose material with the active chemical being noviflumeron which stops the termite from molting. They don't attract termites at first but termites are random foragers. They are constantly searching for food up to 100 yards from the colony. Once they find the station they will use pheromones to mark it as a food source. It's very effective. The University of Florida has multiple studies showing it's efficacy. Good info overall in the video. You have a good head for the business. Great advice at the end.

Thanks Dan for the video. Great overview for the DIY'er and non-professional. I have noticed what I suspect to be flying termites. An inspection shows no mud tubes nor signs of termites. Prevention was recommended though. For the Termidor SC product, should I trench a small area around the home and then apply the product? It seems like a more solid barrier as compared to the bait startions. In either case, what is the recommended treatment for where there is concrete coming up to the home but having a small gap, say an 1/8 to a 1/4 inch between the wall and the concrete?

The builder has an agreement with your local pest control company to install the bait stations. When the year is up, you will hear from the pest control company who will inspect and service the monitors. At that time, you will have the option for continued (paid)service. The average price is around $300.00-$350.00 per year. You can shop around for the best price, but ask about the warranty.

Thanks for watching! So the sentricon stations are definitely not doing anything anymore if they are that old. To inspect the house for termites, you need a good flashlight. Then if the home has a crawlspace access underneath, then you should look under there for any signs of termite tunnels. If the house is built on concrete, inspect the inside around the baseboards on the bottom floor of the home. Also, nearly all pest control companies offer free termite inspections, so that's a really good option too

@jessespad
@jessespad Жыл бұрын
I don't fully understand your question, because if it's just gravel against the slab, you can still dig a trench and treat. If it's like a concrete slab in your way, you drill holes and apply the liquid termiticide under the slab to form the barrier. If your house is built on a solid rock and there is no soil, which I've never seen, then you probably live in an area that doesn't have subterranean termites. A liquid soil treatment is only for subterranean termites. That may help answer your question, until Dan sees your comment. And I'm also a licensed pest technician as well, fyi.

I use the advance bait station and I recently checked it. I actually check it every month, because there is a history of termites. Well I have termites, I replaced the monitored capsule, with a bait trap. Should I remove the wood and drop another bait into it, or leave the wood ? I checked it again just because I was curious.. Well their eating the bait.. THANK GOD… My concern is it may not work fast enough. What if they start causing damage before it kills them. After watching your video I’m going to buy Toridor and line the outer perimeter.. So I’ll be using both
@DanTheBugMan
@DanTheBugMan 2 жыл бұрын
As far as the bait stations go, you can leave the wood with it or put in double baits, either is fine... And that's great that the bait is working! If they are eating on it even just a little bit the bait will work. Its very effective but will take a few weeks to kill the colony. Thats just how all termite chemicals work. Good luck with the termidor! double protection!

Hello, I live in the Philippines, We have an Active infestation from Subterranean termites, to the point if I put a piece of plywood on the ground, within 3 days the termites will be all over the ground facing surface of the plywood! So finding them is not an issue... He get a metric ton of rain here, being a small island, so I am thinking my best bet is to make a few Mounds & place the bait traps in them incase there are multiple colonies. That way the rain wont wash them out. What is / are the main active ingredients that I should look for in baits?

Question I watched ur other vidoe how to diy liquid treatment . Ok whag if you do only two sides of the house where I’m sure there is termite and had termites ? Is that enough ? Or like if 10 termites go through and take it back to the colony is that enough it will kill the whole thing
@DanTheBugMan
@DanTheBugMan Жыл бұрын
Two sides of the home should provide some good coverage. But try to do all sides if you can. But yeah if just a few termites get it then it will eliminate the colony

Im a termite technician myself. Our company's standard is placing the station about 2 to 3 feet from the roofline and away from gutter spouts. Stations should also be placed about 8 to 10 feet apart for the best results. This helps ensure that the termites will find the stations. Most companies will measure the linear footage of your home and give an estimate based on the measurements. If your home for example is 250 linear feet, its safe to assume that you will need about 25 stations around the house give or take to compensate for additional in ground stuctures/slabs around your home (pools, patios, etc.)

Thank you for your video; it was very informative. My question is: what other soil organisms does the liquid treatment kill, or does it only kill termites? Also, can the poison in the liquid treatment move around with stormwater and possibly end up in nearby streams or drinking water wells?
@DanTheBugMan
@DanTheBugMan Жыл бұрын
the soil treatment will be very strong when first applied, and probably kill any insect that comes in contact with it. but after a few days it will bond to the soil particles then just be effective against termites... If applied correctly there should be no runoff into the streams

Termidor specifically is extremely deadly to pollinators. Make sure to ONLY apply as directed in the label to minimize risk.

Painting bedrooms and found 3 rooms with drywall damage and one room with active bugs eating drywall paper. Plus there was one day swarmers were seen in that active room. House on a slab and Orkin drilled inside house through the foundation every 10-12 inches only on the obviously effected walls plus drilled into drywall down low and injected foam only on effected walls. They didn't trench outside but just squirted the Termidor every foot or more around the outside perimeter. Is it safe to assume the critters have been terminated? Should we still do annual inspection and further treatments only if activity is spotted? Appreciate any comments.

@kevinyoung947 I believe they said they could've done either but in our case trenching would've been more as a preventive measure all around where the injecting every foot was more of what was needed in our case. Probably just a story IMO. Orkin was very proactive in that they came back 2 times for further treatment within a month to treat a north side of the house that couldn't be treated because we had an underground concrete cistern water supply 5 feet from the garage wall. We hooked up to city water and collapsed the cistern and Orkin was gracious enough to come back and treat that outside garage foundation.

@kevinyoung947 Oh, forgot to say, Orkin said trenching was more for eliminating all other kinds of bugs like carpenter ants of which we had no symptoms of other bugs.

It looks like the active ingredient in Termidor is Fipronil. The same active ingredient in the Dcon roach motel bait stations and the same as Frontline for dogs etc. It that correct? My house has Sentricons placed by the previous owner but I dug half of them up because they were in stupid locations and I didn't want to pay to have them inspected every year. Sentricon is very protective of the industry and I have not been able to find the refills online for the homeowner. I was able to find the key/wrench thing to open them up but not to refill them. The DIY bait stations I have found are just the cellulose and not the poison.

Termite season is year round have found them in bait stations even in winter temperature under 32 degrees as well as in structures. Swarm season is coming and starts depending on how far south you live. Termites can swarm even in cold months if conditions are right for them they stay active year round searching for food sources and even if its cold wood is a good insulator and provide them some protection from cold. Be vigilant.

I notice you mentioned bait stations are a quicker solution but I disagree, stations can take a much longer time to eliminate an active colony. And I’ve inspected hundreds of homes with bait stations and active termites in the home that were attracted by the bait but then moved onto the home (the biggest bait station.) if soil conditions are very damp we usually go with imidacloprid as it stays put much better than fipronil in high saturated soils.
@steadyeddie7453

I was also advised that if you have existing termites then the bait stations don't work. The termites have already found their wood source, so they could care less about the wood in the bait station.
