I love that you guys break out "older" games. It is even more refreshing to see playthroughs of games like this at 2 players. I play primarily with my wife. We have a lot of fun with this game, even at 2. I can see why people prefer it at higher player counts, but the game is still fun at 2 players, and that is what it all about. Another game that many people criticize at 2 players is Western Legends. We recently got this game and we had a LOT of fun playing with just 2 players. I got a great deal on it used, and so glad that I picked it up in spite of the criticisms at 2 players.

Hi Rodney. Thank you very much for your comment. We do indeed like to play older games, as well as newer ones. We have more fun showing the games that we like best on the channel so most of our videos are of games that we have played and really like, or that look good so we buy to try them out and make videos of them regardless of when they were released. I have not heard of Western Legends. Really great to hear that you are enjoying it - we love to hear about people enjoying games. It's such a great hobby! We also like Terra Mystica at 2 players, but it is indeed better at higher player counts. Still I would never pass up on an opportunity to play it at any player count and as you say, having fun is what it is all about. Gaia Project does scale a bit better though. Cheers!

One of my favourite games! This is my first time seeing it played with only two players however.

Hi Tzera! Thanks a lot for your comment. Terra Mystica is a great game! I have to admit it is better with more players - we played with 5 recently and had a real blast. 2-player doesn't have the same intensity, but it is still fun because the game is so good.

Hi Pat and Glai. I can't comment on your video without telling you how much I enjoy watching them. I love how you and Glai are clearly trying to win but you are so kind to each other and even help each other with decisions. I'd heard good things about this game but I heard it did not play well at 2. Is that why you had the house rule? I love the intensity of the game play. It looked like you really thought hard about each decision yet your turns were mostly fast and smooth. I especially love your post game analysis. I always look forward that at the end of each game. I immediately watched the Gaia Project playthrough afterwards. It looked even more intense! Why didn't you use the house rule in that game? Which version do you prefer?
@AllAboardBoardgames Жыл бұрын
Hi Dee! It's really great to hear from you. How are things? It's always lovely to hear that you enjoy our videos. Terra Mystica is a really great game, but it is definitely better with more players. We played it with 5 and it was much more intense and a lot of fun. You really do have to think hard about your decisions in the game. As regards playing at 2, yes, this is why we have the house rule. If you do not build close to each other, there will be little or no interaction and you will just be in a corner doing your own thing which we found to be much less fun. We both definitely prefer Gaia Project. It is more streamlined and the tech track in GP is much cooler than the cult track in TM. Gaia Project has a modular board so you play in a smaller area when you play with less players. This means that there is no need for a house rule because you will definitely be interacting. Once again it is better with more players, but scales very well to two.

You have a very good presentation style! I am trying to learn this game and there more to it than just leaning the rules, but goals and strategies. I really appreciate your explanations and watching complete play-throughs really helps! I'm on to the Gaia Project next :-)

at 22:54, may i ask why Glai received the 6 coin income hidden under the stronghold, when her stronghold wasn't built by the end of Round 1? i am watching and rewatching your video for the umpteenth time to learn this game, and i think i understand that the space hidden under the stronghold is the 'secondary ability' of the faction (primary being in the bottom-right corner of the player board?), but does that income bonus under the stronghold not only get activated if during the income phase the stronghold is not there (i.e. built on main board)?
@natphil83778 ай бұрын
Ok i just realised that she took off the stronghold temporarily because it was blocking her view, and 6 coins came from the oblong tile
@AllAboardBoardgames8 ай бұрын
Yes, you are correct. She just picked it up for a moment because if was blocking her view. Thanks for watching! Hope you enjoyed the video!

Good game. I agree not getting a priest probably lost the game. But building the keep was a turn too early as it strangled your worker access IMO. BUT it was quite close given it was a two player game.
@AllAboardBoardgames Жыл бұрын
Hi Steve. Glad that you enjoyed the game. Yeah, not getting a priest was big. You are probably right about the keep being built too early too. Workers are very important and it is tough when you are stuck without them. Thanks for your comment!

At 45mins you could have used your priest *as* a worker, and converted 3 power to a worker to get the 4 workers you were chasing.

@@jadlak Really glad to hear it! :-) I think that it is easier to learn the rules when you see them in action through a playthrough and we try to explain rules as they crop up in the game to try to make it easier to follow.

Hi Guys, I had one more question. I heard the Dwarves' special power of tunneling presented and unbalanced advantage compared to the other factions. Would you agree with that? Have you or Glai won with a different faction against the Dwarves?
@AllAboardBoardgames Жыл бұрын
Hi again Dee! Yes, we have won with other factions against the Dwarves. Their tunneling ability is not such a big thing with 2 players but with higher player counts it certainly is very powerful. The reason is that with more players, your structures can get boxed in more easily leaving you trapped in a corner with no way to expand if you do not plan for it early. The Dwarves' ability gives them a way to get out of this. Of course it is also useful to get across rivers and expand in different directions. I wouldn't say it makes them unbeatable though...

I should mention that after Pat placed his priest on the fire track at the 6:00 mark, he forget to move it back to his supply since it was placed during the rules teach part of the game, and it stayed there for the rest of the game/video. I think that messed up his placement of his 2nd priest on the same track at 1:11:24 since he could have got an extra move on that track too.
@AllAboardBoardgames Жыл бұрын
Hi Daniel! It's good to hear from you. You are absolutely correct. Sorry about that error. That certainly did mess up my placement of my second priest. Thanks for letting us know!
@danielschaublin Жыл бұрын
@@AllAboardBoardgames You're welcome, since you would have ended the game one more space up on the fire track if the first priest wasn't there. I guess that priest must have had a good time learning fire for the entire game. Anyway, I look forward to your next playthrough next week.
