TK here - The deck looked okay game one but I think 2 and 3 were a product of new deck and an un optimized side board, not to mention playing against Alec’s proven very strong list. Looking back at my keep for game 2 I think I just got scared of the land destruction and kept a sub optimal hand which the land destruction just picked apart. In game 3 you are 100% right I need a dork on turn one more often and I just need to put more reps in with the deck. Sorry about the poker chips on camera. When my forest got destroyed, I paid 2 mana to cycle my Cloud of Faeries away to search for some answer. I think I grabbed monkey to deal with mox which had been present game 1 and 2. As for the ports I just got so flustered there and made some errors Thanks for the games Alec, and Aluren will be back!

I thought the poker chips were fun! Maybe a bit hard to tell how many counters are on Gemstone Caverns but it reminded me of when we used to use glass beads as counters. That Aluren deck looks cool, excited to see it on the channel again when it's a little more tuned!

I’ve been watching your premodern coverage for awhile and love the videos. My buddy and I hope to make it down to Portland one of these months and throw our hats in the ring. In the meantime I’ll live vicariously through these players. Keep it up :)

That would be great, the more the merrier!

Watching these games, I miss Oath triggers an embarrassing number of times. It's a real testament to the deck that I can play a 2 mana do-nothing and still win.

Great video and commentary as always. It’s always nice to see aluren. I really need to get around to uploading my gameplay again.

Taking damage every time the CoB is tapped by Port is BRUTAL
@Heavy_Play2 ай бұрын
Yeah, taking a shocks worth of damage every turn there at the end of G3 was tough to watch.

I love that GW Oath deck, resource denial is my favorite style of magic.

It’s a good one for sure!

Have you considered digitizing the deck lists you show at the start on Moxfield and putting them in the video description? I'd love to be able to see the decks, mess with cards, and export as needed to work with the spice.

Unfortunately I'm only given deck photos (sometimes only after lots of reminders), so getting digital lists for every deck isn't possible right now. Whenever I'm on camera I do put my moxfield list in the description, but I really don't have the resources right now to digitize every single list featured on the channel.

Imp the biggest flaw of this format is the land destruction. Just look at this match. G2 and G3 were complete non-games because of mana denial. Super feels bad.

Prison/land destruction/mana denial is a pretty common theme of early magic and should be considered when constructing a deck IMO. But to be fair, TK's deck does have ways to deal with land destruction in mana dorks. He probably should of been more aggressive in his mulligans for a mana dork after seeing what his opponent was on.

Not a flaw imo.

Before Commander players started sitting around a table jerking off and playing Solitaire, you had to deal with things like land destruction and counters. It was great times.

Land destruction definitely feels bad, but I think it plays an important metagame role. There are lots of broken multi-color and combo decks in the format where the mana base is one of their few weaknesses. It's good to be able to keep those decks in check. And there are decks that are very good against land destruction. Drawing Stone Rain when you are behind on board vs aggro is a dead draw.

There is a reason they got rid of most mana denial and land destruction over time. If land destruction would be that important of a mechanic for the game it would be in every format. The history of modern format (and every other newer format) shows that a very limited amount of land destruction is needed for a healthy format. Land destruction that replaces the land like Field of Ruin, Ghost Quater, Assassins trophy get rid of problematic lands will not denying mana while Pillage, Stone Rain, Vindicate are expensive enough to not see much play.
