I have both an Alcohol & a Canister stove. As it turns out the Alcohol stove is lighter if your outing is 5 days or less. And this is supposing that you’re going to do only one boil a day. Anything more than that, the Canister stove is a better option. This is because the weight of the Alcohol required would surpass the weight of the canister. Thanks for the video. Have fun out there. 🎀

Companies are not stupid at marketing; they send free products to popular KZbinrs so their product can get air time and most often a favorable or neutral review. Their strategy is to get their product in front of eyeballs so one can see the product being taken out of the package, set up and tested. It is free advertising regardless of any sponsorship, and there are always links to the product and usually a special 10-15% discount or giveaways.

I opt for a 15° down quilt and x therm for my ground camping but my base weight is almost double of yours lol. Alcohol stove is actually heavier then a canister stove after a 2 day trip. I've done the math multiple times and a brs stove with 550 pot is a bit lighter then my toaks Alcohol stove with the same pot. The killer is the wind screen. I do love the Alcohol stoves sound lol

I like the gear you have. This loadout makes sense only if the gear you do not have is in your boyfriend's pack. Fire, navigation, water treatment, medical, rescue signal, comms, lighting, real raingear, repairs, cutting tools, poop kits are all missing. Without his gear capabilities you could get into a dangerous situation quick fast and in a hurry. Nice light pack.

On the pct alcohol stoves aren't allowed because it's an open flame. I had one on the TA tho and loved it's feather weight.
@memathews
@memathews Жыл бұрын
@GlockTard Nope. All stoves on the PCT need a regulator during fire season, you need to be able to turn off the flame. The concern is open flame being accidentally kicked over or otherwise setting off a fire, everything is so brushy and dry that it takes just a second or two in the right conditions to start a forest fire. And the land managers do give tickets or sometimes a ride to jail.

@Mobile Winter Camp yeah, he uses a tarp and a thinlight pad... I can't imagine being that uncomfortable, but it seems to work for him... actually, I didn't see his kit this year. Also, on the pct, the mosquitos are brutal. I pitched my tent to eat lunch.... to me, it would be impossible with just a tarp. Also, ticks are an issue. For me, not having a net gives me the shivers. The whole pct I saw only one guy with a tarp and even he had a bivvy. But not having a tent or sleeping pad is big weight difference.

There's no such thing... Look at it. It's literally three times larger when packed than an equivalent down quilt. You do you. If you want to carry it, go for it. But the presenter is overselling that particular bit of gear by a lot. Also, you'd probably be better off making it yourself. It will take all of an hour and cost a $50. $200 for the basic Apex insulation quilt is ridiculous, EE is printing money on that one.
@janefreeman995
@janefreeman995 Жыл бұрын
@Arrynek01 I made my own 15-degree down quilt, and the down was so expensive there was zero cost savings. But tailoed to my smaller size.. The companies can get bulk deals. ...But for synthetic, it would surely be less expensive... For the down, I made 3" baffles, and that was a bit more time-consuming, but yeah, a no sew thru apex would be much easier.

Great stuff,do you really need load lifters with such a light load?How is the one in rain? I have seen a few on trail,people seem to complain about water getting in with such thin material,sagging and such. I am around 12-13 pounds base weight for fall backpacking. I just can’t seem to get under 10 pounds.

My old pack was a granite gear crown 38, with pockets and extension collar 45 ish liters. It has a lightweight frame sheet.(thin plastic)2.6pounds total weight and had load lifters. It was a tall and skinny pack. It came up behind my head. I think that load lifters just pull the top closer to back not really lifting like you said. Last year I bought a hyper lite junction 2400 40 liter internal with 10 liter external pockets. 2lbs. 2 frame stays,No load lifters but the pack full barely comes over shoulders. I was nervous with no lifters but I think the fit of pack is really important and don’t miss them. Alot of times pack is rolled down to the shoulder straps,no place for them. Thanks for replying.

Concerned about reusing contact solution bottle to carry alcohol... seems like a recipe for disaster... unless you remove all markings of contact solution and remark bottle clearly as to it's contents... love the ltwt of an alcohol stove however if there is a campfire restriction it cannot be legally used... a BRS stove weigh 26g... of course like the alcohol stove you will need to carry fuel... but it is legal to use campfire restriction or not...

Good morning. It should be noted for the vegan folks out there who don't prefer down products (for obvious reasons) that there is available down products using down that was "self plucked" for nesting purposes. After the ducks use the farmer built nesting spots, they move on leaving down filled nests. I'd call that quite responsibly sourced and the ducks have a nesting spot for next season. The cost would reflect these products I'm sure, but at least there are responsible options if you were interested. The plastic shoes shouldn't have gotten out of committee. I place them in the box right next to the GG crotch Pot....super funny but not so practical. Nice kit, thanks
