I step into a fresh TerraFirmaCraft world to walk through how to get from nothing to the first metal tools (saw, pickaxe, and prospector's pick) in order to move on to mining and more advanced crafting.

It seems wooden bowls are disabled in the new build 79. You need to craft a ceramic bowl by knapping 5 clay. Click out all the spots in the top 3 rows. In the 4th row, leave the first and last spot and in the bottom row leave the middle 3. That should look like a bowl. It'll give you 4 clay bowls that you'll need to fire in a pit kiln.

Greetings Mastadonian Micmastodon. I have recently discovered TerraFirmaCraft - a complete newbie, although a veteran of vanilla Minecraft. I find these walkthroughs absolutely fabulous. I thought I had to get three ingots to make a pickaxe but by the time I realised I don't even have a crafting table, I already wasted 30 bits of copper.

Hmmm, my first thought would be to check that it's still liquid. Then make sure you have a viable metal (copper, bronze, etc.). I think if it's not a proper metal that you can cast a tool from, it won't fill.
