Terrafuse is hard to get in the United States. Easier to find something similar at a nearby concrete business. Terrafuse actually suggested I tear out my steps and pour new. It wasn’t anything near the disrepair from this project or other projects I’ve seen on KZbin.

I used a bonding cement for the tops of my 2 steps and on a corner which cracked off. Then I put quick set cement over top and made a mold to fill in the corner. Now I am spraying with water waiting for it to set, then I guess fill in what settles. I haven't put quick set on the top step yet? Can I leave it with the bonding cement? Its getting late so I figured I would finish in the morning.

with a resurfacing product you do not have to keep spraying water during the curing process bc there is none. forget about the quick set as that is a product for new jobs not repairs. you can get use a product that requires the acrylic bonder like CementFix, Ardex, Patchcrete or use a product like Terrafuse that has a bonder already in it. just mix the product and apply to a moist surface and trough/float it to the desired thickness and finish.

I have some concrete stairs that were covered up with wood. The wood is now falling apart so I am planning to remove it. I think the stairs underneath are ok, but sagging in the middle/worn (not necessarily crumbling). This product looks like it could do the trick, but I don’t have a grinder. How much cleaning/prep is needed and what equipment would I need? Trying to figure out if it’s worth the tool investment to DIY this.

You can use a pressure washer. You just have to be sure there is no loose, deteriorated concrete left, and it is all clean and porous. Imagine painting a new coat onto flaking paint, it won't last.

You can add pea gravel usually sold at a landscape supply. Add approx. 30% by volume to your mixes. The product fills about 1/2 cubic foot/bag with some rock added, so you'll have to calculate your total volume needed. It will probably be more cost effective to buy it from us directly, and have it shipped to you, if you are doing bigger volumes. 1-403-243-3000

It seems to me like removing material like this with a hammer drill is rather excessive. i would think hitting it with a masons hammer should remove most of the bad material and give good feedback on how strong the remaining material is. Also i thought mortar was for brick and stonework and Portland cement was perfect for this kind of work.
@TerrafuseInc
@TerrafuseInc 4 жыл бұрын
This is for a long term, permanent restoration. I agree, you only need to remove the loose, broken, deteriorating concrete, but these steps had no structural integrity left in the concrete. If you don’t go deep enough with the removal, after a few years, the concrete will fail underneath your restoration. These steps are not typical though, most you find won’t be in such bad shape!
@TerrafuseInc

You can always rip out your concrete and replace it. The amazon kits are meant for small repairs. If you have larger areas, you can buy the material in 50 lbs. bags directly from us too.
