@@EricsHobbyWorkshop looking forward to it Eric. This video is a big help, was contemplating dropping a lot of money on MDF, but I'm feeling very confident now that I can do it myself. What thickness is the foam board?

This could definitely fit into a WW2 style setting as well, it has that traditional European style that I've seen while on holiday in France and Belgium. I'm planning on making some ruined buildings like this to go along with some tank models I'm going to build next. Thanks for another useful video!

The techniques are really handy. I'm presently using the old Mordheim cardboard scenery (which are looking a little tired after twenty years) as a foundation and then layering using craft sticks as floorboards, beams, and window/door frames and the like. The original buildings help save time, but I'll add to them by scratch-building, so this video will become a staple in my library. Thanks so much for your work!

I like it! Only thing I would add is some sand to hide the exposed edges of the foamcore and make the broken pieces of the wall grittier, and maybe some more weathering (maybe soot and grime), but I like your process and the end result. A table full of these would look great.
@EricsHobbyWorkshop5 жыл бұрын
Working on that table! I will do another fantasy themed video soon and show the progress of what I’ve been working on. I thought about hiding the edges but that kind of begged the question about what was supposed to be inside the walls to begin with. Woven wattle? Wooden laths? I didn’t want to have to show any of that peeking out, so i just left it. I don’t think sand would have made it look any more realistic in my eye. This may need a bit more pondering on my part. Thanks for your comment though!

@paralipsis4 жыл бұрын
Although I've seen a lot of fantasy ruins like this, I had this sudden thought when you were building the story of the amount of scattered wood on the model. How does a building get this way? While we've all seen buildings get this way in modern times, it's usually as a result of high explosive ordinance. It's very Tolkienesque to borrow the imagery of modern warfare as part of the fantasy world building process.
@EricsHobbyWorkshop4 жыл бұрын
Mordheim was hit by a meteor, so modern ordnance is not a bad comparison!
@EricsHobbyWorkshop4 жыл бұрын
Btw tolkien was very clear that he HATED allegory. Just thought thats worth a mention.
@Bluecho44 жыл бұрын
In a fantasy setting, "heavy ordinance" could be anything from anachronistic siege weapons to rampaging giants to alchemical explosions. Not to mention good old fashioned fire. A city made of wood is quite vulnerable to fire. It might be useful, when making such terrain pieces, to make them look scorched around the edges.

2 year old reply but what the heck, someone else might be wondering the same. The black board material is just regular foam board. You can get it from your everyday craft stores or amazon. Alternative budget version: Regular cardboard.
@DyeHardBB2 жыл бұрын
OK, I heard that one. In one of your videos you made a point out of catching yourself saying a word that is just a fancy and unnecessarily long version of a common word. There is a term for this type of thing, being supercilious. Which is really just a fancy way of saying pompous, or putting on airs, or perhaps even better, linguistic puffery. Anyway, the word happens at about 5:50 into the video, it is "Methodology". If you think about it, you really mean just "method". Technically Methodology is the study of methods, but a great many people use it all the time to mean just method. Sort of how cops say "rate of speed" when they just mean "speed". As an "influencer", I am so happy that you have seen this, and perhaps you can help bring back simple straight forward speech. And I get to steel all these modeling tips in the meantime. Thanks.
