Pikas are not rodents. They belong to the same family of rabbits and hares.

I love your channel. You often cover topics no one else does and you always have the best footage to go with it. There's only one little critique I have: Pikas belong to the order Lagomorpha, so they are related to hares and rabbits. Rodents belong to another order (Rodentia). The two are closely related forming the clade glires.

@BlueMusicFan, however, lagomorphs (order Lagomorpha) and rodents (order Rodentia) are not that closely related, which is why Glires is further divided into two smaller lineages, Duplicidentata for the lagomorphs and fossil taxa more closely related to lagomorphs than to rodents and Simplicidentata for the rodents and fossil taxa more closely related to rodents than to lagomorphs, much similar to how hoofed mammals (aka ungulates) are further split into two lineages, Mesaxonia for the odd-toed hoofed mammals (order Perissodactyla) and fossil taxa more closely related to them than to even-toed hoofed mammals and Paraxonia for the even-toed hoofed mammals (order Artiodactyla) and fossil taxa more closely related to them than to odd-toed hoofed mammals.

What a beautiful video, one note, pikas are actually in the lagomorphia order, which are an order containing rabbits and hares. A common misconception that because of their size and physiology that they look like rodents but they aren't! In any case, I enjoyed the video and can't stop looking at these cute little marmots 🥳
