I personally think melee is by far the easiest, as it has immense defensive capabilities and you really are given all the range you need by the time it becomes important. It's so good in fact, that you can just kill duke fishron in a set of adamantite armor and a shadowflame knife, even on master mode. Ranger may be more intuitive in regards to keeping distance, but I don't find it to be easier to stay alive than warrior and warrior is just as capable of having high range. "Haha magic sword that summons bullets go brrrr"

while melee armor sets generally has the most defense, that doesn't stop other classes from having comparable survivability to melee. the tankiest melee armor sets provides enough survivability that they're viable to use for other classes (except summoner which has squire and valhalla knight for tanking), and a fair bit of survivability actually comes from accessories and reforges, both of which aren't exclusive to melee. also every class can kill fishron premech....

@@CloutmasterPhluphyy I have tried all the classes against duke pre-mech on ftw and of them I just liked melee best. It's the quickest and least stressful, with summoner just being ass due to minion AI. I most enjoy ranger of all the classes in a more general context, but at the end of the day defesne is busted and if you aren't multiclassing or going the extra mile of using armor combinations instead of a full set, warrior tends to have the most of it.

I enjoy summoner because you don’t really have to focus on aiming, allowing you to focus more on dodging. Which is the most important skill, especially if you want the summoner’s ultimate weapon

That’s what I was thinking; while summoner has the least defense out of all the classes, this is offsetted by the ability to solely focus on dodging meaning they’ll on average take less hits than other classes. They also tend to have an easier time with mining, building, and events/invasions.

@iCanOnlyHave30CharactersInMyNa not necessarily, I main summoner and don’t whip stack and it’s just fine DPS wise. The use of whips is also flexible in its own right; summoner has the ability to easily disengage a considerable distance from a boss while still providing solid DPS if the player is uncomfortable. This strategy is especially potent in multiplayer; I find myself almost always at full health and can be a safety net in case teammates go down so they can respawn.

I love summoner, I like building and I like that the game isn't about if I can actually hit anything. It becomes all about movement while staying in whip range, and staying in range of your sentries aswell. And sometimes even having to keep your whip stacking up. It becomes a lot more dynamic.

My summary of each class Melee - Great Defense, Short range (usually), Great AoE, can apply debuffs by using a Flask to imbue your weapons with the debuff (ideally Ichor, as that lowers enemy Defense so each hit deals more damage) "Haha big sword go brr!" Ranged - Long range, may need to lead shots and/or account for gravity (if using bows/repeaters specifically), trick arrows/bullets can do various things (Flaming arrows set enemies on fire, Ichor arrows apply Ichor, Crystal bullets split into multiple fragments for high single-target damage) Mage - Various effects, some of which can combo with each other in the late game (Golden Shower + Magnet Sphere + Razorpine is a strong combo, as Golden Shower applies Ichor, Magnet Sphere summons a BFG ball that shocks enemies while you attack with other weapons, like the Razorpine, which summons a barrage of pine needles for ludicrous single-target DPS), make sure to use Mana Regeneration and Magic Power potions during boss fights and events (They're essential for Mage and not too hard to craft) Summoner - Minions follow you around and make attacks. You can whip enemies to direct your minions to attack them for bonus damage. If you want to, you can use other classes' weapons as well for additional DPS (Whip an enemy with Snapthorn and Leather Whip, then swap to the Boomstick to blast the enemy while your minions attack for boosted damage. Just remember to re-apply the whip tags every ~3 seconds to maintain your minions' boosted damage. _Note: Any class can have great Defense with the right build, but Melee is easiest to make tanky, and Tanks who don’t care about damage or sticking to any particular class often use Melee armor for Defense._ Edit: Looked up how to _italicize_ text and did that. I my opinion, Ranger is a really good support class, with most arrows apply a Debuff. But unlike melee and summoner, you can switch it quickly allowing you to do a lot of damage.

Mana isn't an issue if you use mana potions. Your damage will suffer but worst case scenario you lose 12.5% of your damage on average if you drink every 5 seconds. Realistically you will lose even less if you grab the mana stars and use mana regeneration potion during downtime. Also mage armors give you more max mana and mana cost reductions, Celestial Magnet lets you basically get instant 100 mana quickly from the stars pulling them toward you from long distance. Upgrade this to Magnet Flower for more mana cost reduction and automatic mana potion drinking. I don't really recommend Celestial Cuffs if you don't focus on defense but even then you don't want to get hit anyway, and not really worth it for one accessory slot that can be used for more useful things.

I've always said that the summoner class is both the easiest and hardest class to run. It requires so much extra work to get kitted out and youre so dang squishy. But if you get good at movement the class makes the game less difficult. Its a high skill based class and I'm all here for it.

overall good video, but the mana regen vs mana potion argument wasnt really accurate due to the way mana sickness works, any magic weapon that use up less than one mana potion's worth of mana in 5 seconds will on average only suffer minimal damage reduction from the debuff (~-10% damage output, sometimes not even that), which is comparable to the damage lost from stopping to wait for mana to regenerate. overall theres not much reason to use mana regeneration over mana potions aside from personal preference, especially in hardmode as not many weapons uses more than a greater/super mana potion's worth in 5 seconds, and even fewer of those cant have their mana cost pushed below that threshold with mana cost reduction gear.

I did play mage as my first playthrough 150+ hours, and even post-moonlord, you don't have chance of living either dodge or die, I mean even POST-MOONLORD you just get one shot no matter what mob is, so after a while I killed day time EoL a lot of times and I think its easier in day time, cause I know Im gonna die either, so there's no need to panic for second hit that may kill me. Just dodge it all.

I play just about any class, ranger, mage or summoner. I hate melee, specifically true melee in calamity. Late game melee becomes a more defense ranger which I really hate. I can't tank through most things I'd think I'd be able to. I don't think its a skill issue as I have beaten revengence on master mode.

I just started my first expert playthrough the day you dropped this 😊, well previously I started an journey mode but there was a bug where plantera bulbs wont spawn same goes for crystals in underground hallow, and my god now i have 37 gravestones and i havent even started lol, its so difficult to not make a graveyard here and there, I have a gold bow with frostburn arrows but still I'm not able to pass the desert to reach jungle lol, how will I survive, this is too hard, I first did melee class but now im switched to ranger, mobile controls are a little hard tho to control aim type weapons, but I got an Abigail flower early, im lucky and also frostburn arrowd aren't doing anything 😢 like wth is this difficulty everone one shots me or atleast 2

Idk, I always just grabbed shadowflame knife at the start of hardmode, killed duke fishron with it and went on to use the flairon for everything up to the solar pillar, where the daybreak and solar eruption replace it in both dps and crowd control abilities. This is mostly due to duke fishron being a meme boss, though.

5:34 the mana is not that much problem with star in a bottle and mana regeneration potion you can regenerat all your mana in 2-3s 7:04 personal summoner class is not that hard summoner's few weapons makes the class easier and doing whip stack is not that hard the average whip stacking is btw 2 whip only and about the whip range is not that big problem in hard mode alot of bosses stuck with the player range and the game give you more options like tiki armor it has less damage then spooky but with more whip range and +5 defence speaking of defence its not that big problem being alive is not about the defence there is alot of other mechanisms in the game to stay alive like health regeneration,damage reduction and dodge chances and the player himself can dodge the attacks or just go with tank Summoner that has the second best tank in the game and deals good damage

funfact, the reason why summoners have such low defense is because you can afford to put all your focus into dodging, the whips just add a risk-reward aspect to the class so you _CAN_ do extra damage, if you think you can dodge and attack at the same time
