Thank you! I was wondering how the unit cycled for day and night. Didn't see anything in instructions about it being light sensitive.

If I have the heating mat and thermostat, do I put the sensor over that hot point? On top or buried in substrate?
@piscespet13 жыл бұрын
depending on the animal you have in the tank it can vary, if the animal buries to get right to the heat source having it directly on the hot point is the ideal placement
@christopherreid59923 жыл бұрын
@@piscespet1 So I have 3 ball pythons (not in same tank) so since they do not bury, where would your ideal placement be?
@christopherreid59923 жыл бұрын
@@piscespet1 I actually put it in the middle of the heat pad, then substrate over that and it is reading 122*. I have the thermostat set to 88* but doesn't seem to be adjusting.

I purchased one of these. Mine never reaches the temperature I set it at. If I set it at 90f it will only reach 89f. If I set it at 87f it will reach 86f. Does yours do the same? Also, have you ever had the blue light just flashing and not sending power to the heating source?

Great video, but I have one question tho. How does the thermostat recognize the difference between day and night when using a heat pad? I'm also planning on using a light ficture in combination with the pad, but then i would have the prob on the pad so it would never detect any daylight, would it? Thanks!
@donkyuhbuhts5406 жыл бұрын
Mattis de Kleine if you do this technique it would just always be on the NIGHT setting because it would be getting no light... I have this same tstat and that's the only issue with it.
@piscespet16 жыл бұрын
@donkyuhbuhts540 is correct, this specific thermostat is made to regulate light & heat. the probe must be placed in an area shining light to be able to recognize the day and nighttime cycle.

A trick I did was I put a piece of wood too shield some of the substrate so that it's right on the heat pad area but that it's also in just the right spot and coverage for when the lights come on, it switches too day light and when lights go off it goes night time and is always right on the heat pad area. It takes a little finesse but it's totally doable.

can this work for a leopard gecko

I would love to know how to put the probe inside without leaving the top open, my snake is hatchling sized and can def squeeze through if I left it the slightest bit open for the probe🤷
@piscespet15 жыл бұрын
A front-opening terrarium like an exo terra would work best (:

The thermostat wire for is thick how did you get it to fit inside the tank with the lid and still latch I cannot figure it out
@piscespet15 жыл бұрын
The lid was simply not closed all the way, kept it open about 2mm in the pocket

Newbie here, will I be able to use this with a regular basking LIGHT bulb?
@piscespet16 жыл бұрын
The issue with that is the light will be turning on and off during the day to keep the temperature regulated.

Why would it go on and off if it is a dimming thermostat?

Why wouldn’t u put it above the carpet? Cause then above the carpet isn’t going to be at that temperature that u set the thermostat to I’m asking only because I have a like rock hide for my ball python and I don’t know if I should put the probe inside the hide or right on the glass over the heat pad cause then clearly the inside of the rock hide isn’t going to be up to that temperature cause it’s a thicker material
@piscespet15 жыл бұрын
Its all about safety. If you have your node above the mat and set to 90, that means your glass will likely be around 110. If a snake decides it wants to burrow under the mat, it is not at risk of being burned by the heat pad. Basically, you want to be in control of the HOTTEST point in the terrarium, to ensure your snake will never be in harms way.

Pisces Pets ok sweet deal cause the little rick hide I’m using don’t get up to 90 degrees on the inside but my probe is on the glass and substrate is over that.... umm I think I’m going to just get like a log hide or something like that then at least for the hot side then put that other Hide on the cold side and what is ur opinion on putting a ceramic heater on a separate thermostat as well set to around 78 to keep the ambient temperature up????
@piscespet15 жыл бұрын
@@MikeH0311 kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHiQeJuveZaVi6c Check out this video if you have not already! It should explain everything clearly. Ideally the best set up for a ball python is two hides on each side of the tank, one cool and one warm (over the heat pad). The snake can use this gradient to regulate its body temperature. IF you live in a a basement and have a colder home, a ceramic heat emitter hooked up to a separate thermostat is not a bad idea but usually no necessary. If you are looking to keep heat in, try lay down tin foil on top of the mesh lid to trap in the heat. Heat emitters will dry out the air, where heat pads will increase the humidity.
