Hey I’m about to set up a chameleon cage with springtails and hopefully live plants and I was wondering what you think about if I were to try to implement dung beetles
@TheBioDudeJoshHalter
@TheBioDudeJoshHalter 7 ай бұрын
Hi there, springtails and isopods are a better option because dung beetles need a lot more poop to sustain their population than a chameleon could produce.

Hii, i have ordered a few things to start an oreo crumble population. I have a few things already like a tub, substrate mix, oak leaves and bark, and sphagnum moss. What else would i need in order to set them up? I know you said springtails but do those need extra/different things?

@TheBioDudeJoshHalter

Since they are from the outdoors, it is not recommended to use isopods that you catch, since they can harbor disease and parasites. You can definitely purchase Armadillidium species from breeders, since they are safe and free from illness/parasites (if you order from a good breeder)

So I’ve ordered the kit for both isopods and springtails, however unsure what type I should buy for a leopard boa. And based on what isopods and spring tails what should I do for the ventilation? Thank you

I wouldn't trust any you find in public places just because you don't know if they've been exposed to chemicals or parasites that could harm your reptile.

I'm good with my dairy cows, but unsure of how humid etc for cubaris soil.
@TheBioDudeJoshHalter
@TheBioDudeJoshHalter 7 ай бұрын
Can't go wrong with Dairy Cows. There are many different species within the cubaris genus, but most of them require a relatively high level of moisture with a lower level of ventilation. Aquariumax Pets has good videos breaking down what different species need.

what should the ventilation be for powder orange and armidilldium species ?
@TheBioDudeJoshHalter
@TheBioDudeJoshHalter 7 ай бұрын
For powder oranges in a standard indoor room, you want to have adequate ventilation because this species doesn't prefer moisture. At least 9 holes of a centimeter's diameter on the lid of the bin is what I'd recommend. As for armadillidium species, there's high variation between humidity requirements for each species. The best advice I can give is to look up the requirements for each individual species you keep. Aquariumax Pets has good videos breaking down what different species need. For example, zebra and clown species usually need a side with less ventilation to retain more moisture but they don't molt well in stagnant environments, so having a well-ventilated side of your bin with multiple holes is a good idea.

@@TheBioDudeJoshHalter okay thanks i have my reptile room so ill drill some holes in the top for my powder orange and keep a small moist side on one end just in case they need it ! thanks i appreciate the comment ill be getting a mist king and more from you guys soon

Do rubber duckies need a lot of ventilation?
@TheBioDudeJoshHalter
@TheBioDudeJoshHalter 7 ай бұрын
Hi, this species requires a higher humidity environment, so I'd recommend fewer, smaller holes of about a centimeter diameter on one side of your bin, and a few on one end of the lid. All isopods require SOME level of ventilation or they will die.

Would weed matting make a good vent cover or would it not allow enough air to pass through? It has even finer holes than window screen which I'm hoping will prevent isopod mancae of even the smallest type of isopod from escaping.
