Up until 1970, organizers of the World's Wristwrestling Championship liked to boast about how no injuries had ever occurred in their tournament. This changed at the 1971 event, where there was an arm break for the first time. The next two years would see two more arm breaks: the one in this video in 1972 and another in 1973. They didn't occur every year that followed, but it was not a rare occurrence.

I spiral fractured my humerus, armwrestling in a bar room on my 24th Birthday. That was 36 yrs ago, and this video was extremely hard for me to watch. Talk about painful memories.

Yeah, I tore my brachia muscle on my left forearm in a coffee shop in seated armwrestling; after beating the guy righty, he then said he was lefty, so I went left arm after. It was a partial tear and felt like some zinger, so I continued and won lefty, though. But I detached about 25% of the muscle from the tendon, I saw later that day; it's still not the same. (My mistake was holding a toproll too long in the same position without transitioning to a press. I don't armwrestle seated any more.)

Not a serious injury? If it was a spiral fracture of the humerus I would say it is a serious injury, especially in 1973. Sometimes it can damage the nerve and never be back to 100% or take years to get back to normal. Tom Segura comes to mind.

I think in the contex of a life threating injury.. but yeha ripping the bicep and spiral fracture of the humerus is about as bad as it gets in AW.

@@thevtadventure1062 Brzenk said it takes 3-5 years of solid pulling to harden up your bones to the point where breaks are rare. Bodybuilders can't rush it.

I remember seeing a match where one of the wrestlers was using his chin and he was called out by the referee multiple times for doing it. Anyone know who that was? it looked to be sometime in the 80's based on the quality of the film.

Lupkes hid behind his head & shoulder vs. Brzenk in '88 and got chastized by the ref and pushed back for it.
