This 'whitening' issue is VERYYYY prominent in arab societies. The self hate runs deep from simple melanin. You know what's so funny? I am a pale arab girl with black hair and most of my family members are tan, however a small few have blonde hair AND pale skin. Can you imagine my response when a really close relative had the audacity to tell me that 'I don't belong to the family' cause I have BLACK hair and 'most of our relatives have blonde hair'. Its so sad, it literally made me insecure about my black hair lol, they literally praise Eurocentric features and hate on any form of melanin, not only skin, but also dark eyes and hair too!
