That spider is a Dolomedes Tenebrosus a Dark Fishing spider. If you’re in a location by the water , it makes sense. They are one of our largest spiders in Ontario Canada. But totally harmless to humans.

@@laureenhall1461 the ones you have in New Zealand are likely “Dolomedes Aquaticus “. Or you maybe thinking of Delena cancerides which is the flat Huntsman spider. They are in the film called Arachnaphobia. They used this species , which they are depicted as being incredibly venomous , but are harmless to humans. The only spider you really have to worry about in NZ is the Katipo - Lactrodectus Kapito and Lactrodectus Hasselti ( red back ) spider. Which is a relative of the Black Widow family. And the white tailed spider , which has necrotic venom.

White tail spiders are friggn' nasty & got bit twice, same time, same leg quarter- hlf inch apart. Felt like a hot burn @ 1st, then a sting, then swelling & the rest was ouch ouch ouch for few weeks & more . I wore it out eventually but it has left an ugly scar. I still feel the agitation of a sting every now & then after 6yrs & will never leave Drs have stated. Shudve gone for an injection immediately 💉 for faster healing.. i guess..my bad.
