►About the Game -
In "LE DERNIER DON", you play as Lucie, a young orphan at the end of the First World War, in France. After disobeying the mistress at the orphanage she resides in, she gets thrown into the broom closet to spend the night, whilst the rest of the children celebrate the end of the war.
As she breaks out from isolation, discover what sinister secrets are being held in this scary and stressful environment. You will be navigating through the orphanage, looking for answers in this narrative horror experience.
This game was realized as part of our Bachelor degree's graduation project at the School of Digital Arts, Animation and Design (NAD).

15 weeks?! That's absolutely incredible work in just 15 weeks!! It looks like the majority of the models and assets were custom, did you guys use any pre-rendered assets at all?? With such a small team, you all created something more interesting and compelling than any major AAA studio right now - you should all be extremely proud, well done! Very short but very sweet, the story was sad and terrifying, it ran soooo smoothly (I didn't see a single stutter or loading pause, something even big games seem to struggle with), and no cheap jumpscares. My only critique is admittedly a personal one...the sound effect used when you look through the keyhole and see the monstrous little girl. I hear that "strangled violin" screech in so many indie horror games and it's just...awful. 😆 It's cheesy and not scary, and I've heard it so many times that it feels frustrating rather than horrifying. I would've preferred just an ominous low tone or a cello rather than screeching violins but, again, not a mark against you or the game, just my own personal preference and how sick I am of violins in horror games LOL!

Please tell me you're going to make a full game of this. It reminds me of Bioshock in a way but with assets that I've yet seen. I hope you get whatever degrees you're trying to get because you guys are going places 😍

Everything was made from scratch by the team, we studied in the best rated 3D University in Quebec, so we had the tools and skills to not need to buy anything :) the only asset purchased was a post-process system for the first person camera, it helped us color grade a bit of the zones without affecting the models and textures. I was personally the Animator for all the characters :) Love your comment about the violin 😂

I like the idea that the children look like Monsters but were the only ones kind to the little girl. While the normal looking adults were the real monsters.

Nailed it! And the character itself was experimented on, it probably didn't show too much with KZbin's compression, but we added stitches and bruises on our protagonists arm :)

The art nouveau architecture and furniture are really spectacular. It was a very popular style in the late 18th and early 19th century so it does a good job of setting the time period. If the designs feel a bit familiar it's probably because Bioshock was done in the style that came out of art nouveau, know as art deco. I like to think of art deco as "art nouveau with all the lines straightened".

Was Lucie in the closet because of her dad, rather than for being naughty? Where is her dad, anyway? It's an orphanage - did General Dubois know she was there? Is he her father, uncle, or grandfather? Lord have mercy! The loose ends are delightfully intriguing.

Pretty impressive work for a group student project. My biggest question though is, how long was she in that closet, cause this seems like all this would of taken a few days to happen, and was the closet sound proof as well so she didn't hear the insanity that was happening outside?

Considering she was forced to take some strange medication, I could imagine she was heavily sedated. It's also possible that the one who locked her in the closet did so knowing she'd be safe there and had some part in letting the mutated children escape. HYopefully we'll get an expanded or full-length version that'll provide more clarity.

Not a bad little game. Creepy, decent story and character development, and some incredible monster designs. Overall, definitely an A++ imo. *Now please play Syberia: The World Before* Seriously, I've given up on any hope of you playing Night in the Woods. But I refuse to give up on you playing Syberia 4.

The visual style is beautiful, the story is clever and quite engaging (kinda balances between personal drama and dark mystery) And the characters are just the best. Seriously, i would love to hang out with some of them. If you want to, watch Jack Septic Eye's playthrough, he does voices for all the characters. And I'm not surprised about the price for Syberia 4. It's worth every penny. I watched a no commentary playthrough of it. I was blown away by it. It was breathtaking, a vast improvement from 3. Better mechanics, better character designs, better story. And a much more satisfying ending.

When we were only seeing adult bodies mutilated i figured it was something like that. Even tho obvi kids cant consent to medical stuff like this, even attempting to be like "hey, were trying to do this thing to help, can u help us?" Coupd have maybe prevented a touch of the animosity lol. Esp sonce the kids seemed worried for the adults already. I wonder if the sister was killed gently? Her ghost seemed to be leading the protag to the truth, and wenever saw her body, so maybe.

Just about every scene or turn of the corner elicits, "oh my god!" from my mouth. This game's name should've been Gruesome. Don't get me wrong, the game is good & looks great. 😀👍🏼 There has to be more. Please tell me that this was a demo (even though I looked to see if it was a demo and nothing). A longer version needs to be made because the obvious talent demonstrated shows that time and money would not be wasted. The way it ended teases the viewer taunting them to sort of expect that later this year or sometime next year a full release will be forthcoming, imo. At least that's my thinking. If it turns out that a longer version isn't in the works I'll be sorely disappointed. 😀
