Think I saw or heard somewhere that sharks actually flee from the blood of other sharks being introduced to the water. Not sure if it needs to be the same species of shark or if it’s even true, but it makes sense to me that if they used their super smell abilities and realized their shark homie got wrecked they’d be like “Oh damn, someone just killed Derek. Let’s get the hell out of here!”

Skipped school one day in may, went down to the Jersey shore to teach my friends who just got boards to surf, cloudy day sun comes out and as I’m sitting there watching them try to catch a wave, there about four feet in front of me facing the other way was a 5-6ft bull shark silhouette booed right the fuck out walked in water and sold my board the next day haven’t been to the beach in 13 years

My wife and I went for a island boat trip here in Philippines and half of our stop nobody wanted to snorkel with me. So I was afraid of them leaving me just being so far away from the boat. It’s cool if everybody in the boats get in the water though. I feel so much more safe

The reason sharks attack surfers is because from underneath, it looks like the belly of a seal or small whale. Plus im sure a lot of these coastal areas have lots of commercial fishing, so im sure the sharks are always looking for other things to eat, like hippie surfers lol

People say that, but if you think about it that doesn't make sense. You can find videos of sharks getting seals - they leap like 12ft out of the water when they bite it. But when they bite people, they don't launch out. And if they did launch out you'd probably die from the impact alone. So I don't buy that. I've also heard, and to me this seems more likely, that when sharks bite people it's because they don't know what it is and they're taking an exploratory bite to see if it's food.

Sharks are repelled by shark blood. I think they've even made artificial shark blood that works too. A "million dollar idea" that I've had (and anybody is free to steal because I'm lazy) is a vial full that you keep on you while swimming or surfing. If you spot a shark in the water near you, you just pull the vial and the stopper is attached to a lanyard around your neck (or tied to whatever) so it opens and mixes with the water, scaring the shark off.

Crescent city California 2017 I saw a 18ft g.w. I was bleeding the boats limit of rockcod and kicked the bucket over to drain the blood out of it. It created a huge blood slick. 10 minutes later we had this fin following the boat. We stopped and it swam under us! Was 3 feet shorter than our 21 foot center console...
